About a year ago I had a blood test. My triglycerides were through the roof, almost 950. My blood was tinted yellow. I don't drink much, maybe on average 4 drinks a week. I did consume a fair amount of carbohydrates. I don't recollect at this point what percentage. My doctor wanted to prescribe a statin. I am only in my early 50's. I am not ready to get on the drug train! He gave me 3 months to see what a change in diet would do. I cut carbs out almost completely and 3 months later my triglycerides were under 100. So, I consider myself a good example of what a change in diet can accomplish!

I am 68 years old. I am a perfect example of what you are saying! My triglycerides came in at 298 when I was eating and drinking lots of sugars and pastas. It was dumb on my part to have so much right before my blood work. I immediately suspected it and requested another blood test in 3 weeks. I stopped a lot of the ice cream, soda, bread and pasta and then took my blood work test. My triglycerides came in at 76! I'm a believer. So many people STILL are old school and stop eating eggs, burgers, sausages etc. and it DOESN'T WORK! Thank you Doctor Ken Berry! No pills for me!

Hi there! So proud of you! How are things now 3 months later if you don't mind me asking? I just went to my Dr. and we went over my recent blood work and my triglycerides were at 500, my A1c was 6.8 and I am in need of dropping around 50 lbs. Thankfully my Dr. is ok with me using the Keto/Ketovore approach to try and fix these issues. I am so hopeful that in 4 months or so when I go see her again that I will have improved things drastically. I have been hugely successful with Keto in the past but went off the deep end the past year and regained a lot. My main addictions being pasta, Doritos, rice and sweets galore. Yeah a year binge! I am now a week or so back to 20 grams (or lower) of carbs a day and high fat/protein. I'm jealous st worried the butter, eggs and steak might raise my triglycerides. Would love to hear how it's going for you!

After three months on a low carb high protein / fat diet, the triglycerides are 192, A1C is 7.3, total cholesterol is 140.

Warning! I have been low carb for 3 yrs, my cholesterol was 330, triglycerides 51 & all inflamation marker low, after going carnivore for 6 weeks I had a mild stroke. I ran bloodwork immediately and my cholesterol had shot up o 848, triglicerides 132 & inlamation markers including lp-pla2 shot up. Am now on Plavix & a statin. Make sure you can metabolize fats before going carnivore. Maybe Dr Berry can address this issue in another video, I won't be going carnivore again. This probably does not apply to most prople but it is a risk people need to know about. Too many influences out there pushing this without mentioning this [pssible risk.

Last November I had triglycerides level of 65. I am 82 and have had levels near 150. I live in Northeastern Brasil and eat 2 meals a day. After my 10 kilometer walk in nature with my shirt off I eat 4 poached eggs, a little ketchup, 1/2 large cucumber, one red tomato, one purple onion, one red beet and a quantity of arugula. About 6 hours later I have a bowl of cooked black bean with sliced sausage & fatty bacon. I have lost 3 kilos to 88.6 kg. I have lots of energy and run a thriving business. I have not eaten any industrialized food since I moved to Brasil. I have only freshly squeezed Orange juice every day with a whole lemon chopped up in a blender with a little honey. THIS VIDEO RIGHT HERE got me into my Carnivore path and on the road to fixing my decades-long high triglycerides and cholesterol conditions. Found the video as I was laying in a hospital bed, recovering from L1 corpectomy and T12-L2 fusion brought on by a compression fracture caused by a single plasmacytoma around the L1 vertebrae. The VA doctors always said exactly the same thing, that it was hereditary and prescribed Lopid (had a really severe reaction to it) and then later fenofibrates and Omega3 supplements which did not help much. They suggested to limit my fat and alcohol intake and to exercise more, which I did, but NEVER mentioned lowering my carb/sugar intake which it wasn't that high, or so I thought. Thank you Dr. Berry! 100+ days in Carnivore and those conditions are now gone, my surgery recovery have been very fast, lost a few pounds (wasn't obese to begin with but welcomed) and hopefully, will keep future tumors from developing. Look at fasting!!!! Water and minerals for at least three days! Eat at six in morning, then noon, then start your fast! Your liver will run out of carbs to feed the body, then it makes a different carb called, Koteen. This feeds your body and starts reprogramming it. It changes cholesterol levels and then it changes into peroxide that cleans the body. Five days , would be better!! Please do some research . Good luck!!

I have been doing a ketovore diet for almost a year now. After 7 months on the diet, my triglycerides dropped from 797 to 349. Obviously still very high, my doctor insisted the diet isn't working and that I am at high risk of a heart attack or stroke (especially given family history). She wants to put me on a pill, but I pleaded with her to let me go a little longer on the diet and see if the number comes down. All my other lab numbers were normal, including my A1C and glucose levels (I am..or was..a type 2 diabetic). I do not eat sweets, don't drink, and avoid carbs as much as possible. I am typically consuming under 50 carbs a day and I do a 16 hour fast each day. This is the only "diet" I've ever been on where I'm not starving all the time. Thanks for all you do Dr. Berry!

If they insist on writing you a prescription, you are under no obligation to get it from the pharmacy. Do your own thing and go back and get a new blood test when you're ready. If the results are good then no harm, no foul and the doctor will go with the flow. If not and the doc gives you a hard time then F her. Earlier this year, my cardiologist called to tell me my lab results showed my triglycerides were elevated and greater than 400, She prescribed a statin. Within a short time period after beginning the medication, my right shoulder and left hip ached so badly it interrupted my sleep. In order to find the root cause, I decided to discontinue my medication and began eating strict keto, in conjunction with IF.
Approximately six weeks after changing my lifestyle, my new labs revealed the combination of keto & IF, as well as total abstinence from alcohol, lowered my triglycerides from >400 to 128. The quick impact was startling and more than I hoped for.

After COVID hit I had stopped exercising and was not following NSNG very closely at all eating like crap and BOOM out of the blue I get massive painful attack in the midsection one late afternoon at work, ended up vomiting on drive home. Wife thought I was having a heart attack because I was ashy and grey, rushed me to the ER. When I first arrived they kept drawing blood and telling me the machine did not like my blood, turned out my Triglycerides were off the chart along with my Lipase, and my pancreas was swollen. My blood looked like a purple milkshake. Then they started asking me how much I drank every day (I don't had not had a drink in months just a lot of McDs) 2 days later after having spent 18 hours in ICU on Insulin drip I got out and found food jeezus never going back. The last 2 days in the hospital they kept trying to feed me fruit, fruit juice, artificially sweetened pudding and jello. I said no just beef broth and eggs and bacon. No one in the place would believe me when I said I had been eating too much sugar and carbohydrates, they would have given me toast and jam if I let them.

i had blood work done about 2 weeks ago and my triglycerides were 1231 mg/dL, A1C 9.3. Glucose was 200. Said I was Diabetic. I am 41 years old, weight was 245 lbs.
Since then I have been following a strict strict strict low carb low sugar diet. I eat about 8 carbs a day and sugar around 4grams or less.
I have already lost 8 pounds. My eye sight is actually starting to improve as well and i am gaining mental clarity and more lucidity. All I drink is water. I skip breakfast. For lunch I eat 3 to 4 Hebrew National All Beef Kosher Hot Dog Franks and 3 pieces of string cheese. For dinner I usually only eat 1 hard boiled egg or about 2 servings of cottage cheese, or some very very low carb or no carb something for dinner. I am also taking 200mg of B1 vitamins a day as well.
I really hope my Triglycerides lower quickly.

Interesting! I don't have high triglycerides and don't know of anyone I know that has told me they do, but I am terribly curious and love to learn. They started my mom on statins which I objected to and she then refused. That was decades ago. She turned 102 in December and goes to church with me on Sundays. Great grandma fell off the step ladder washing the windows on her house at 102 but was nothing but black and blue, and lived in her own house taking doing the cooking for her daughters whose husbands had died, until they didn't wake up from smelling breakfast one morning and found her dead at 104 for no apparent reason. She wasn't on anything either, and her only problem was hearing if she couldn't see your lips. Relatives always ask my opinion and all I do make sure it is science that is driving it, and if there is another way other than pills. Thank you for posting.

@The Complaining Chavnel I agree with both of your statements. I think there are MANY people who would like to be able to afford to only shop locally, only eat organic, free-range, pasture-fed, lightly killed, foods BUT, when they get to the grocery store and see the PRICES of meat, fish, produce, etc…they realize that they will be paying, in many instances, DOUBLE for the healthier products. I’m lucky to live close to a big-name, Midwest chain of stores that have “market district” attached to the end of their name. They have MANY options for organic produce but, yesterday I went to gather ingredients for a pasta salad and I looked at the fresh cauliflower-“ regular” cauliflower was 2.59 per head, organic was 4.49 per head. When you are caring for an elderly parent and “subsidizing” two children who are both college students, price differences like that end-up breaking the bank. I used to have an enormous garden and I harvested fresh produce every year and grew anything you can think of (that grows in my climate zone) I had a dozen free-range chickens that would lay delicious and organic eggs-that ate only organically grown food. I don’t have the time or money to do that any longer. I had to move to a different house in a different neighborhood to care for my mother and my kids-who are adults but still like dad’s home-cooking!” Lol. Many people, like ME can not afford the money or the time to do the organic stuff anymore. I had 4 heirloom apple trees, black and red raspberries and saved seed from year to year so I didn’t even need to pay for a packet of seeds-all my plants were open-pollinated varieties. Anyone who garden’s seriously, knows how much work that is. I loved the work but I’m pushing 60 and I work full time and the new neighborhood is nice but it’s not nearly as conducive to big-time “urban gardening. I’m lucky to have the options at least, to pay the price for organic if I want and can afford it, but how do people that live in area’s without the selection of grocery stores and without a means for getting to other stores supposed to deal with it? Sorry. That was way too long. ✌🏼

@@lucylu0615 -- Some things have no cure. More important is what causes cancers, and most of them are caused by toxins in the environment (e.g., cigarette smoke, radioactive materials, etc.) so avoiding those is your best bet. I do know that tumors don't do very well on a keto or carnivore diet since they don't consume ketones, so that will probably help to some extent. But not all cancers are identical, and sometimes there's no known reason for why it occurs to a specific person. What I do know is that I don't consider poisoning myself with chemo and ruining the quality of my life just so I MIGHT live an extra couple of months to be "curing" anything, so I wouldn't go through that myself. If you want to, that's your choice though--more power to you. Just know that an industry that relies on you being sick in order to make money is disincentivized from seeking for and providing a real cure to you.

Thank you! For 1.5 years (several years ago), my partner and I embarked on a total Vegan diet. We both lost 30 pounds, felt well. However, when I had my labs done, rather than finding my cholesterol down and such, I found that my cholesterol was at 229 and my triglycerides were at 375. When I mentioned this to the doctor at my next visit his comment was "well, I wouldn't worry about it, we don't know much about triglycerides". RED flag in my brain. I decided right there and then that I would not see this young doc again and that the Vegan way of life was NOT for me. This was about seven years ago. Since then, I have discovered that grains are not my friend. Just cutting most brought everything down. I have gone up and down with everything diet wise, yet; always figuring that very low carb would be my friend. I have thyroid disease , high blood pressure (due to an accident 20 years ago and constant inflammation). So, a week and a half ago we embarked on a very low carb diet. I don't expect my weight to drop dramatically (I'm on prednisalone for eye swelling and though they say it won't cause weight gain, I am never able to lose while taking, we are ALL DIFFERENT), I am looking forward to the results. I'm kind of pissed that I was told for decades to do low-fat, high carb diets. Just exercise more. Well, that worked OK while I was in the military with a military-grade physical fitness program. But I can't do that at my current age (69). Yet my health got worse, not better. In March and April of this year, I quit sugar, like ice cream, cookies, cake etc. At the end of April I had lost about 10 pounds. But my glucose was still a little high at 132 and A1c at 6.3. Triglycerides where at 302. I started a low-carb diet at that point (end of April). Now, it's the end of June. I've lost another 28 pounds, my glucose is 102 and my A1c is 5.6. My triglycerides are down to 213, so that's going in the right direction. My total cholesterol went from 189 to 223. Not worried about that either (LDL from 97 to 150). However my VLDL count went form 51 to 39 and my HDL went from 41 to 34. That has me concerned. However, it's only been a few months, so I'm sticking to my plan of low carbs (I try to stay under 30 grams a day). I quit my statins also at the end of April. So my ability to exercise is gradually improving. So I'll do another full panel at the end of July and see what's happening. In the meantime, I have about 50 more pounds to lose before I get to my "ideal" weight. But all this time, I was told to eat less fat and take statins to lower my triglyceride count (always been high). Secret was it was OK to eat fat, but it was the sugar and carbs. It's why when I'm told "to follow the science" I no longer believe what I'm told. I'll do my own research from now on.

Not mentioning coffee is a huge over sight. My Triglycerides went down 70 points when dropping coffee. Carbs < 30 per day with coffee = 159. Carbs < 30 per day w/out coffee = 98. It could be the coffee, I am convinced it was for me.

    Dear Dr.
My case, I am a 48 year old male, athlete, I do intermittent fasting 18:6 every day of the week (with some exceptions) and my diet is low carb, eating mostly nuts, fish (salmon), avocados, salads, chicken, eggs and dairy (cheese). My BMI is 23.5, my body fat is 13% and my visceral fat is excellent according to impedecia meters.
In my last blood test (the previous one was 2 years ago and I was not fasting), my total cholesterol was from 240 to now 290 mg/dL (they did not differentiate between HDL, LDL and VLDL) and triglycerides from 80 to 180 mg/dL.
I feel better than ever, energetically. I play beach volleyball and I have a lot of energy.
In the analysis I observed that the Acetone in urine was 10mg/dL so I was in ketosis since I had been fasting for 20 hours when I did the analysis. Also the Urea was slightly high at 54 mg/dL.
I believe that my triglycerides are elevated because my body is in ketogenic mode and uses them as its main source of energy and that is why they are elevated. The liver will be exporting VLDL and my adipocytes will be releasing triglycerides to the liver.
I would like to know your opinion about this situation (High Total Cholesterol, TG, and Urea), but the truth is that my condition is better than ever.
    Thank you very much

I am pretty much whole foods with low carb. No processed meats or foods. I eat berries when I do have fruit and that not every day. My triglycerides were over 3,000 way back in the early 1980's when it was first caught. Specialist I was sent to told me it's probably inherited, here take this LOPID 1x/day. Nothing was said about diet or anything that could lower it naturally. Even with LOPID, it can still be over 1,000. The lowest it has ever been tested at was about 500 and of course I had no idea why it was that low except that I was discovered to have diabetes in 1999, so over time I started eating better as I learned more about diabetes. NO DOCTOR ever told me carbohydrates should be eliminated, only that I should eat whole grains, if I eat them. Fruit was okay too, according to them. Well.... today I know better, but I had to learn all this on my own and with the help of these videos. I still have high triglycerides though, even when I eat minimal amounts of carbohydrates. I have NEVER been close to the normal levels, no matter what I do. It is frustrating. One doctor told me that if I haven't had pancreatitis by this age (66) with such high triglycerides, I may never get it.

I don't do keto and my last triglycerides was 87 and total cholesterol is 150; always been around these numbers. I exercise and eat everything in moderation and I've been taking certain supplements (iodine, vitamin C, vitamin D, super B, complex cod liver oil, magnesium, and zinc) for the past two year. My mom doesn't do keto and her triglycerides were in the 400s, but she had hypothyroidism, NAFLD, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Two years ago, I put her on 100mg of Lugol's iodine and accompanying supplements; currently dropped down to 50mg. Her hypothyroidism is back to normal, she reversed her NAFLD, diabetes has improved greatly where she went from taking 5 forms of insulin and is down to 2 insulins, her cholesterol is is good and her triglycerides is down into the 200s. I believe she has Cushings, but has never been tested for it.

For the past three years, I have adhered to a regimen of keto and intermittent fasting. During this time, I have abstained from consuming carbohydrates, fruits, and alcohol entirely. My diet primarily consists of vegetables, while for protein sources, I rely on salmon and eggs. Additionally, I maintain a consistent exercise routine, engaging in physical activity three times per week.
However, during a recent blood test, it was revealed that my triglyceride levels were notably elevated. I am curious if consuming eggs could be a contributing factor to this increase, given that I do not consume any of the other foods you mentioned. I would greatly appreciate your professional opinion on this matter. Thank you, Doctor.
