Melee is easily the better title. The sheer improvement from 64, the atmosphere, the plethora of modes, the brilliant stages, the soundtrack, the speed, the impact of attacks. Aside from the clone characters, it's a wonderful game.

If anyone is wondering why the master hand glitch happens, it's because master hand is the first character in the code or whatever, and the game selects the first one since you got to the stage select without choosing a character.

I enjoy Smash 4 more, because I can play as Mega Man, but Melee is still fun. I can't process things fast enough to play Melee competitivly, so Sm4sh is my go-to. That or Project M.

GoodVibes Harambe it’s not as competitive as any other smash game, but it’s still an amazing game, the music, sub space, the gameplay not on a competitive level. It does have some bad things like tripping, but that doesn’t make brawl an ass game
Melee satisfies the competitive player’s desire for speed especially in competitive matches, while smash 4 covers all other areas: character roster, stages, and goodies in general...

With enough perseverance you can do this with 1 person and 4 controllers.
The black hole glitch can be done with just 1 person if you can hold down B with your feet, then you can do the shines with Fox and falco with your feet, and do the super scope with ness and peach
with your hands.

You can do masterhand glitch with more than one name entered. Only thing number of names changes is the position of the create new name box.
You can also use the same glitch with characters selected to force the stage select with only one player or to force stage select with 4 players on one team to get blacked out character models.
There are also a bunch of other cool glitches that probably deserve honorable mention too like freeze glitch, flat Kirby glitch, super wavedash, extender, stock icon glitch, yoyo glitch, etc.

Smash 4 is a great game for casual players who don't want to dump a lot of time in smash, whereas Melee is for competitive players who have enough free time to dump hours a day into it, to learn wavedashing, L-canceling, and other tech similar to that.

One Salty Boi I mean you honestly dont need to spend much time on Sm4sh, you spend about maybe Id say about 50 hours on the game and youd get the hang on a few characters and after that the only way you can improve is improvising your neutral. Meanwhile Melee is a way closer good to honest competitive game where you have to start practicing with a lot of tech so it feels natural then you play actual games and try and see if you can nail it down in the middle of a match. Melee really has a very high limit to how good you can get, even though I mainly play Melee its hard to do a match where my movements are near 100% while in Sm4sh its better casually cause you dont have to worry about messing up.
YoshiGator that is true. Melee has plenty more advanced tech to use in competitive play, even if most of them were glitches. Melee is more fast paced then any other smash game, which in a match gives more opportunities to react to things. I can agree Smash 4 is more focused on the casual audience, the competitive side of smash 4 is now just bayonetta, and as a King dedede main, I had to suffer through it while on for glory. Smash 4 has turned into a pay to win game that I don't like. You get bayonetta, learn a couple of moves, boom, you win most rounds. While with lower tier characters, you have to put way more time into them to get good with them. I know people have been saying the people overreact about bayonetta, but it's becoming a problem with the competitive community. Cloud is also somewhat of a problem, but the cloud you at least have some way of getting out of his combos, unlike bayonetta who can just carry you off screen.
One Salty Boi I dropped out of the smash 4 scene before the mayonetta issue, but I find it hillarious how melee, which has never received a balance patch, has more competitive balance than smash 4, which has had several. It's almost like nintendo is intentionally trying to make it unfair with cloud and bayo lol.

I actually tried the Master Hand glitch not too long ago, and I knew it worked when the game just froze. But I never got to really play as him, as I wasn't taken to the stage I picked, because of the freeze. 🤷♂️ Very cool set of glitches, though, and SSBM was one of our favorite games growing up.

You can do masterhand the same way in multiplayer as in single player, and why didn't you mention wobbling?

Also no Samus super wave dash / lock on grapple, or mewtwo being able to glitch people through the edge of final destination with his Side B. And Ness yoyo glitch
wobbling is not a glitch, it's a heavy exploit of how melee's grab system works. If you're grabbed and hit with a move that does less than 7%, the grab timer restarts. With Nana dtilting and Popo pummeling it makes it so you can't escape. You can recreate the effect by grabbing someone and having another player jab them with someone like link.

Smash 4 is obviously better because it includes more content, but it we are talking about innovation at it’s time, melee is better.

Content is not the only metric one can use to measure the quality of a game. The biggest aspect should be gameplay, which in a series like this where every entry receives a great level of polish (whether veterans like the mechanical differences or not), is impossible to rank from an objective standpoint. Thusly, deciding which game is best is more of a personal opinion based on what a person values most in their gameplay, while the amount of content in the game just serves to supplement the core gameplay. From a pure content perspective, smash 4 would easily win, but in deciding which game is better, the more important factor is how fun it is to play.

Caden Sheeran That's pretty much how I view it. Melee's gameplay is more fun for me, and more in depth, so competitively it functions better. Smash 4 has a huge selection of items, stages, and characters, as well as a smoother, more appealing graphical style (I guess that's an opinion though), resulting in it being the best option for just casually playing with some friends.
