Devoto and Shelley chose the name "Buzzcocks" after reading the headline "It's the Buzz, Cock!" in a review of the television series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. The "buzz" is the excitement of playing on stage and "cock" is northern English slang meaning "friend". Peace out.
Buzzcocks are like punk beatles. With all harmoniseing.
Orgasm Addict was the left over track from the Spiral Scratch EP which you should give a listen.
Thank you for doing this suggestion of mine, it's always appreciated by me.
Great band 'Buzzcocks', they got their name from a magazine headline article in 'Time Out' about a British TV series called, "Rock Follies" about a Rock girl group, the headline read, "It's the buzz, cocks!" from about 'buzz' of being on stage, and 'cock' is Manchester (and the surrounding areas) slang for youngsters, I hope that this helps.
Best of luck with the house hunting.
The phrase is of course lifted from the series itself... which reminds me that there are two full albums of songs from the show, the first was a No1 album in the UK so you could say it was pretty successful. That's something to look into for you! All the songs are on TH-cam credited to "Rock Follies".
I remember that series. It was brilliant!
Thanks for the suggestion. 😂
The Buzzcocks a band that was ahead of the game for the 1970's , but their best song for me was everybody's happy nowadays a classic punk song that's for sure .
Great song. We tried that one out a little while ago too.
power pop, pop punk, punk rock seems to describe the Buzzcocks, they (the remaining members) are touring Australia later in 2024
Oh yeah! 😂. Love some Buzzcocks. Seen them a few times (one of the best live bands I've ever seen) and seeing them again in September.
And just so you two know, September 13 they have a date in Toronto, at the Opera House.
Buzzcocks took fellow Manchester band Joy Division ➗️ on tour with them in 1978.
Saw these guy's way back back in '79 at the Roudhouse,London. The line up that day was incredible with 999,penetration and Generation X to name but a few and The Buzzcocks blew them all away....they were so good live.
I'm going to see The BUZZCOCKS in November for the fourth time i can't wait also Bob Mould( HUSKER DU).Pearl Jam and The Pixies on the same bill) YIPPEE 😁 I'm going to be a 🐷 IN 💩
@@heathcornbeef 😁👏👏👏👏👍
@@markferrett700 Mark brother I'm excited beyond belief I've seen all of those bands before but Bob Mould is going to be a first and i can't wait to see him. Husker du are one of my all time favourites NEW DAY RISING is one of the best albums ever in my opinion . Bob Mould is a LEGEND who I've been a fan of since 1985 15 years old bucket list gig for me
@heathcornbeef .....I'm feeling a bit of envy over here 😊😮....hope you enjoy a great gig my friend 👍👍👏👏
@@markferrett700 kia ora hello Mark. Live music is like oxygen for me i need it. I saw five Ska bands last Sunday Auckland Ska festival had to leave early old friend rushed to hospital so missed the last 3 bands 😠😡 I've seen them all before many times so not a real biggy. My friend has just been diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer 😭 . He's the bass player for THE CITY NEWTON BOMBERS and HEAD LIKE A HOLE we've been mates since 1985 and it's not long before he's doing the big gig up in the sky I'm NOT HAPPY at the moment 😭 but that's life ah 😞
Vale Pete Shelley
One of the best pioneering 'Punk' Bands of the mid-70's.
They were the first DIY Band.
Awesome Band to see LIVE.
Not the first DIY band, really.
Interestingly enough, the bandname was taken from headline "It's the Buzz, Cock!" in a review of the television series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. "Cock" is northern English slang for "friend". That said, the band was very much aware of the sexual connotation too. lol
They were representing the angst and frustration of the Youth of the period.
Saw them a few times, always put on a great show 😊
Great choice of Buzzcocks tracks. Couple of other singles I would recommend are my 2 favourite Buzzcocks singles, I don't mind, and You say you don't love me.
Hell yeah 💯👍
Classic tune ! Cant beat a bit this lot . Great reaction !
Do you know the band Eddie & the Hot Rods? I can suggest their most known song "Do Anything You Wanna Do".
Great band, some great punk pop songs!
LOL. I am sat here, watching this, wearing a 36 year old Buzzcocks T-shirt that I bought when I saw them at the Manchester Apollo on my 18th birthday. It was the second incarnation of the band. They had previously split and some members formed Buzzcocks F.O.C. (Free Of Charge). This was the first tour they did when they reformed as the original. They were great, but were an 'older band' even back then for me! 😃
Edit: 'Noise Annoys' is also a classic.
Love the Pete Shelley anti-guitar hero solo - very ironic.
Rip Pete Shelley
I watched them live very professionally done always sounds great always great as band almost 50 years old
That second song was disgusting!
That's why I used to play the crap out of it back in the 70's. lol
I owned a very rare ep of theirs called spiral scratch a girl who new Pete Shelley gave it to me when I was in school late 70,s 😊
YES YES YES ✊👏👏👏 THANK YOU GUYS!!! while you're mind's are in the gutter i lost my do de do de do to an older Bootgirl while the BUZZCOCKS singles going steady was playing on her stereo 😮
As you raised the subject, Cynthia, maybe try something by The Vibrators?
Baby Baby
Judy Says (Knock You In The Head)
or a personal favourite, Pure Mania
Yes this! This person knows what they’re talking about!
Chris and Cynthia, stellar picks again! Have you guys heard of The Action? They were a British 60's Mod/Freakbeat group who morphed into hard Psych Pop before becoming Psych Jam group Mighty Baby! (Check Them Out!) Best of luck on the house!
Orgasm Addict - well, the Stranglers had Bring on the Nubiles, Pistols had Submission, Dead Kennedys had Too Drunk Too...
Got this one too, my favourite Buzzcocks song , I Dont mind is another great one , they had lots of catchy singles.
Great chair dancing. I bought the album soon after it appeared and loved it - my twin brother was less impressed (he was a closet bogan). This group's best known song was Ever Fallen In Love (with someone you shouldn't have).
Thank you once again
Have you done The Vapors? I expect you know Turning Japanese but their non comercial stuff is similer to the Buzzcocks, I recomend News at Ten or Jimmie Jones .
Classic stuff. I had the same thoughts as Cynthia regarding the name and thought the truth was less interesting when I found out. There was a band called The Vibrators around at that time.
Here's a suggestion: Love Song by the Damned. With the late great Algy Ward on bass who sadly pasded last year. He also dud sone sterling work with The Saints.
Orgasm Addict was a punk shock record - to provoke. Same with Stranglers Peaches. The other track in this 70s sex shock set is Wayne County and the Electric Chairs : "If you dont want to F me" - also known simply as "F Off" - which is a very decent track
Wayne/Jayne County had a few Crackers in their time. I saw Him/Her twicw at wee gigs years ago. I think there is even footage of one of the Gigs online.
Howard devotos first band. Spiral scratch was an early release before devoto left.please listen to spiral scratch sometime. Watch what do I get on video.
A Class Act.
Absolutely correct Cynthia, that's exactly what a buzzcock is, they were originally going to call themselves the vibrators, but another band beat them to it 🏴 happy healthy peace ✌️
like Lene Lovich's "New Toy" too!
@@bensteckler6698 an imitation " sex pistol" 🏴✌️
Wrong .
Completely wrong , nothing to do with that .
Not right info , it wasn't about the vibrators at all .
What Do I Get? Classic pop punk from the late 70s. Orgasm Addict was not very good just naughty for its time, in my view. Pete Shelley (Singer) came out as gay some years later (I think), so it may reflect his frustrations. They came from Bolton, near Manchester.
Gotta, Gotta do Boredom!
My all-time favorite Buzzcocks song is 'I Believe'

Sick frog? Go to the vets they might be able to help fix your croak
Possibly the least appreciated Manchester band of all time!
After the Chameleons!
And the Fall!
@@marchadier1 The Fall are never under appreciated in my house! Mark E Smith, genius!!!
