  • Located an hour and a half from Cuenca, in the Province of Cañar, is the Ingapirca archaeological complex or the Wall of the Inca.
An amazing fortress built by the Inca and Cañari civilizations.
The archaeological site of Ingapirca represents a settlement extraordinarily extensive, inhabited long before the Inca conquest.
Through historical and archaeological studies carried out on the site, it has been revealed that the Cañari nation occupied this territory before the Incas arrived.
The Cañari were admired for their bravery and war power. During the Inca period, they were given positions as soldiers of the southern troops and in the service of the temples.
Among their beliefs, they worshipped the moon, the mountains, the big trees, the marbled stones, macaws and the different lagoons of the territory.
Later with the Inca conquest, they established an important religious, political, scientific, and military centre in the place, whose core was the Castle, or the Temple of the Sun, the Incan God.
