    Earth's moon was formed about 4.5 billion years ago when, according to one theory, the Earth slammed into another early planet. What fact about our moon did you find most interesting?

    • @realsandeep
      @realsandeep 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      The fact that there is only one giant part stays around the earth after it slammed into another early planet. May be there was a lot. All got destroyed time by time. Maybe our moon is also dying? I mean everything is dying obviously. But relatively a little bit faster.

      National Geographic I think the theroy is not acceptable because our planted crashing into another planet and forming the Moon sounds like science fiction.
      1- how come we never hear about the Dark side of the Moon..?
      2- how come the original theroy of our Solar system with the moon and sun is not fully mentioned and it's only this theroy?

    The fact I found most interesting was the largest crater, the Aitken basin is deep enough to hold Mount Everest. Another fact I really enjoyed learning was the surface of the Moon was once geologically active covered in an ocean of magma. From what I understand the Earth collided with a planet named Theia, so I wonder was the hot magma which flowed at one time on the Moon's surface a result of the violent collision.

    For me, The most interesting fact was that the moon rotates at the same rate as it revolves around the earth. Of course, I knew the same side of the moon always faces the earth but I had never considered why. Now I know why I wonder what the probability of that happening was. I mean, isn't that statistically very very improbable?

    Moon, calm me down ❤

  • @Xeno_Bardock
    @Xeno_Bardock 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Considering the axial tilt of the moon closely matching with Jupiter's axial tilt, our Moon was dislodged from Jupiter along with Mercury and was orbiting the Sun directly until Earth captured the Moon. If Moon had formed with the Earth, its axial tilt would closely match with Earth's axial tilt like Saturn and Titan, it doesn't therefore Moon is captured by Earth sometime in the distant past.

    • @efslab
      @efslab 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      how does that explain how the moon and earth are made of similar materials?

    • @Xeno_Bardock
      @Xeno_Bardock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@efslab Earth and moon being made of similar materials could be just coincidence. It wouldn't surprise me if moon and mercury are made of similar materials.

    • @efslab
      @efslab 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Xeno_Bardock it's mostly likely that when Theia (the name for the planet that smashed into Earth) contacted Earth, it caused the axis of Earth to tilt, while the dust and debris from the smash rotated around Earth and became the moon, which would have a normal axis. And besides, there's no way that the Earth and Moon made up of similar materials is just a coincidence. It's a very specific number of elements that happen to be both present in the Moon and in Earth.

    • @Xeno_Bardock
      @Xeno_Bardock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@efslab Theia is nothing more than hypothetical planet that no one can ever confirm actually existed though. Besides if Mars sized planet like Theia ever crashed into earth, only asteroid belt will be left behind. Earths axial tilt comes from originally orbiting Saturn before its capture by the Sun. Physicist Wal Thornhill talks about it in his Saturn/Earth Connection video. Our solar system is a result of collision between two different solar systems long time ago.
