I have been trying to figure all this out for about a year. I am so glad to find this video. I have a 3 year old shitsu - weighs about 15 lbs. I will start looking for the proper carrier now that I know that the dogs can go under the seat and be comfortable .. this video really helped me with my first time dog travel. xo
This is such an informative and helpful video! I appreciate how you've shared your personal experience and provided valuable tips for traveling with a dog in the cabin of an airplane. Your step-by-step guide, from checking in with the airline to visiting the airport veterinarian, is really comprehensive and makes the whole process seem less daunting. I also love how you emphasize the importance of training your dog to be comfortable in the carrier before the flight. Your enthusiasm and positive attitude make me excited to embark on similar adventures with my own furry friend. Thank you for sharing these valuable insights, and I can't wait to see more of your travels with Sophie!
Nessa, thank you so much for posting this video. As dog owners we are always so nervous to travel with our pets but you made it seem so easy. All you have to do is plan in advance. Thank you for sharing! Although Sophie is so go with the flow that I don't think you'll have any issues doing anything with her ever. Thank you, keep smiling and keep up the good work, Nessa!!❤️🐕
Sophie is definitely a very "go with the flow" kind of puppy and I hope that our video continues to show people that it can be easy and fun to travel with your dog. Thanks so much for your comment!
Thank you, Nessa! I love Porto :) helpful video, but Im still nervous about traveling with my cavapoo...its a 8 hr flight to madrid , and then a 6 hr drive ...love and safe travels to you and sophie!
Does your puppy do well with car rides? The plane ride went very smoothly for Sophie and although we didn't have a long car ride after our 7 hour flight, I think she could have managed it, especially because she loves napping in the car. Maybe you could exercise your pup a little bit after the flight before going for the 6hour drive home?
@@NessaandSophie Thanks Nessa. Maybe when Lulu is older like Sophie she will be ok, but for now, I think I would rather leave her home with a sitter. We love seeing what you guys are up to, esp with the separation anxiety...
I have three dogs, one about her size and two small like 4 pound dogs that would share one (because they stick like glue to one another) So they would be cuddling and standing up, I guess they would need the same size carrier so the two can stand up and turn around, I'm just going in the USA not out of country so hopefully it isn't a problem.
Hi Nessa, thank you SO much for your helpful video, I feel a lot more at ease now that I've watched it, but I'm still confused about this one part that no one seems to cover in other videos as well regarding pet carriage sizes. Regarding Sophie's carriage, you wrote that, "The carrier we used is 'Paws & Pals Pet Travel Cozy Commuter for Small Cats & Dogs'. It's the large size up to 20lbs (19"L x 10"W x 13"H)." How were you able to use a 13" high carrier when it shows on the Air Transat site that the height of the carrier cannot exceed 10" under their regulations for the pet carriers? The Air Transat website says, "Passengers must be able to place the animal carrier under the seat in front of them. Therefore, its dimensions cannot exceed 24.1 cm (9.5 in) in height x 25.5 cm (10 in) in width x 43.2 cm (17 in) in length..."? Also did they say anything about Sophie's not being able to stand completely in her carriage? Thank you in advance for your help!
Thank you for sharing. I will be flying with my dog very soon. Just curious how your experience was in Portugal with your dog? Maybe you have already made a video on that?
Your baby looks just like mine! Could you share her measurements? Mine is cockapoo named Keira :) I am just concerned that she might not willingly turn around and stand when asked to. She doesn't like carriers at all! :(
My daughter wants to bring her German Shepherd dog to their home in Bulgaria. She's inquired about it and Aeva needs her own 'pet Passport'! It's very detailed and costly.
Great video very well explained. I'm hoping to travel to Portugal with my dog in the future this was very informative. But I'm nervous just thinking about it more because of the paperwork. Also did you leave from Toronto Pearson airport? Your dog is just so sweet! 💞 Thanks for your videos I'll keep watching them . 🙏☺️🥰
Thank you for the tips and mentioning about checking the destination airport requirements! Didn’t think abt that. Sophie is adorable!!! My little girl’s name is also Sofi. I just spell it different 😊🙏🏽✨💕
this is super helpful! How tall is Sophie? I'm wanting to travel to Italy with my mini schnauzer, he is 17lbs and his carrier is 1.5lbs so the weight is okay. I have all the paperwork done, his carrier is comfy but he can't fully stand up, his head is taller than the sherpa carrier but he can still turn around and sleep comfortable in the carrier?
Exactly! I don’t know why airlines in the US can’t do something about traveling with pets. It’s impossible at this point. I always have to drive. It’s maddening.
As your dog gets older and you visit the vet more and more you will start to learn that most vets don't know shit. They certainly don't know your dog especially not better than you. Atleast that's been my experience with the vast majority of them. Only vets that actually seemed qualified in my city were the ones at the premier pet hospital. Honestly google has given me better results than Banfield.

Sophie likes the sea! I'm glad, my little dogs were afraid of the waves.
Adorable

I like to know this answer too.
I’d like to know this too!
Can you post a link to the dog carrier that you have please? Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. I will be flying with my dog very soon. Just curious how your experience was in Portugal with your dog? Maybe you have already made a video on that?
And btw if you are still in Porto you have to try the restaurant called FISH FISH
I'll definitely look that up! Thanks for the recommendation!

Very helpful video, thanks so much.
Thank you for this great info. How to find the list of dog breeds that are allowed on air planes?
My daughter wants to bring her German Shepherd dog to their home in Bulgaria. She's inquired about it and Aeva needs her own 'pet Passport'! It's very detailed and costly.

Just wondering how much your dog weighs? Did they weigh your dog with carrier before your flight?
What if Sophie wants to go for pot? Is there something like a diaper for dogs on plane?
Great question! Sophie doesn't go potty overnight (which is about 8hours) so I knew she wouldn't need to go potty during the flight.
Hi I am traveling to Europe with my maltipoo and I can’t find a carrier 18cm high (the requirement ) do you have a suggestion? What is your carrier ?
Where in France are you going? We are in Montpellier and would love to see you here, have a great time. Asser
We were just in Bordeaux, now we're in Paris and next stop is Marsielles.
How did u not address the pet pee/poop issue?

Did you make it to Italy with your dog? I’m looking at taking mine in November (two Maltese) but I will be traveling alone so super nervous
May i have the link to your carrier

Where do they potty?
Airports pretty much all have dog relief areas for them to go potty!
@@heatherb9853 thank u 💓
This seems to be out of country/canada specific and doesn't really help the average american not leaving the country.
