    I am planning to buy a puppy from a breeder in the future (years away actually, haha) but this got rid of all the worries I had. I seriously thought the only way you could take puppies on a plane was by them being in the cargo or something.

      Please adopt a dog instead, there are already so many without homes. And if you are looking for a purebred you can just google Purebreds for ADOPTION, not from a breeder. There are way to many dogs in shelters already.

    My Wife Took our four month old Morkie down to Florida on the plane ✈️ for the first time. He wouldn’t stop barking until he got on the plane ✈️ then he was good the entire 2 hour flight ✈️. Airline officials say if your dog is barking before the plane takes off while it’s inside the plane they will not let you fly

      @Ka chi we flew and still fly Jet Blue. Our dog has gotten better. He no longer barks now. He’s older. He was doing that when he was a puppy. But I have heard some horror stories from people on other airlines (they may all be the same at some point) as well as Jet Blue. I guess it depends if the flight attendants are dog lovers or not. They are the ones who complain and enforce the the rules.

    Tsa does not allow toys to be in the crate during inspection fyi. Also they often require you have a ID tag, harness/collar and leash for when they take the dog out of the crate for inspection.

    • @ThePracticalPuppy
      @ThePracticalPuppy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we are aware of that. Everything is removed during inspection. They explain this to people going through with a crate and puppy. It's no different than anyone else going through security. Everything is inspected. :)

      The puppies are laying down in the soft sided carrier. They are not sitting or standing. A typical puppy is not too cramped and is quite comfortable. They just lay their heads down and go to sleep.

      With my last puppy, Delta said they required a vet see the dog within 3 days of flight and complete a form. But I was never asked to show it! This time with my new puppy 9 weeks old, I am flying with American. I specifically asked and was told no paperwork is needed. That worries me, though.

      Most airlines limit to either one or two dogs per cabin. So if there are two of you, you could theoretically have one of you in each cabin with two puppies each, if the airline allows. Check American.

    Dont follow all of this advice blindly. As somebody who has been breeding for 13 years now, when transporting a young dog do not let them out of the carrier unless you are leashing them and placing a blanket or towel between the floor and them. Parvo is a real thing which kills dogs, and you dont want a parvo pup. Also, never take your dog out of its carrier unless necessary to make sure that they do not interfere with working dogs. If your dog runs off, it can cause damage to service dogs and you may be in a hefty lawsuit of 40-60k USDs or more.

  • @Pluscelamemechose
    @Pluscelamemechose 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't feed the puppy the day of travel. This prevents the messy carrier. Be sure to let the puppy poop prior to being introduced to the carrier. That way, anxiety doesn't prevent natural processes.

    • @ThePracticalPuppy
      @ThePracticalPuppy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Puppies under 3 months have a hard time regulating blood sugar levels and should never go without food for an entire day. We keep our pups on schedule with meals when they fly, and rarely have any issues with a pup messing a carrier, and it only happens when they are desperate. They give plenty of warning that they are uncomfortable and need to be taken out, and a quick trip to the plane bathroom and a potty pad on the ground solves the problem. They are always provided a potty opportunity before boarding a plane.

    • @idaharding
      @idaharding 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePracticalPuppy I always used to take my dog in the carrier into toilet aboard plane in the middle of a long flight. I'd put the potty pad on the floor and perch on the toilet seat myself and put her down on it. She never went, but I felt better for giving her the chance!
