Great easy way to make a dowel splice! Thank you very much for the straightforward demonstration without unnecessary background and narration. I was struggling until i saw this video and jig. I especially appreciate your demonstration of the glue-up and clamping.
Great idea! To make joining easier, wind a small hair rubber band tightly close to each cut end; after applying the glue and joining the dowels, just roll the band down the dowel and over the seam - works like a charm!
You are a true craftsman in the highest form possible. I'm very amazed at the consistently Innovative and simple methods you use to accomplish your goals! Totally inspiring. Thank you
Thank you! No talk, all demo, just great. I can use this for repairing broken hickory shafted golf clubs--which I play and work on a lot. I might need 2-3 jigs depending on where the shaft broke as they are typically tapered. I also have a table top drill press and was happy to see your free hand holding of the vise and then the stock to get all the way through. I'm estimating your jig is about 4-5" long. Lovely demonstration. Very efficient. Thanks!
Very cool Jack. I think this would make a nice billiards cue stick, or make a nice accent in crafts and furniture. I'm thinking I could make some cross-grain dowels and then cut my own screw pocket hole plugs.
If you wanted to improve the vertical strength could you add a dowel through the middle of the joint? would it have to be at maximum half the width of the joined dowel?
This ideal method to use when making light weight wooden arrows with hard wood for arrow head end and softwood for fletching end. Thanks. I will now be doing this tomorrow. So simple and will obviously work.
If you have a benchtop sander, you can skip making the jig. Just grind each piece down on the sander to an angle. I just finger clamped mine for a couple of minutes then clamped with a spring clamp, then opposed that clamp with another clamp. It worked great. That said, your idea is genius for those without fancy tools.
sir, if I may, the volume is way too loud...also if you would fast forward while some tedious and repeatative movents are required it would enhance your useful and clever inventions.

Nice! No unnecessary yapping, no introduction, no hyperbole, no self promotion, just someone getting something done.

I came across this tutorial for hickory clubs too! Couldn't wrap my brain around how to hold the shaft and cut an angle accurately. This is great.
Thanks i'm going to use this to help me with Roman shadesGreat tutorial
Great technique - do you think it would work for 1/4" dowels - looks like yours are a bit thicker than that.
I don't know how I ended up here but this is a great way for repairing my arrows, thank you!

Perfecta unión jamás vi esto te felicito, gracias Luis de Peru
Brilliant idea. I knew about scarf joints but couldn't figure out how to accomplish making matching cuts for a round dowel.
wow that was cool Jack!
Great idea. At first when you put the dowel in i thought you where going to run it through the table saw.
Spindles in a chair comes to my mind. Thanks
Such a great video and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you and will use myself
Jack you have given me an Idea thanks
Thanks I Can use this! Keep thé good videos.
Nice was looking for a solution to connect two short dowels into one longer. Do you think this would work for geodesic dome?
That looks like a poor man's pool stick. Very creative!
Very helpful, thanks.
i need to extend a dowel to use as a curtain pole to
inset into the window well so it looks flush to the wall.
Thanks 🙌🏼

Awesome!!!!! Thanks

This will work to splice and replace sections into my masts of a model sailing clipper ship that have bent. Good show.
hi, nice idea, after spicing, is the glue strong enough to do the wood turning?
On hickory golf shafts, we would then whip the joint to give it extra. Works great.
Jack that is brilliant way to splice them together. But for what use?
Perfect for broken hickory golf shafts. Sometimes they break--great way to splice them. I'll make my jig!!
Works great on broken hickory golf shafts.
Long smooth curtain rods.
très bonne idée
Awesome
tres bien..
excellent, I will be able to repair my wooden arrows
If only there were detailed instructions as to what is being done to actually make this understandable.
yea it's easy when you have a $1500 drill press
Mine was $100.
