TacoCactusComedy depends on the wool. I didn't use flat irons when making furry ears and you can see the difference it does. Flat irons should only be used on synthetic wool, if anyone wants to use natural sheep yarn or I dunno, a goat's, then just brushing it could work
Zullala, I used a fine toothed comb; it pulls less fluff out than a dog brush, and it's faster :3 you're also less likely to stab or scratch yourself XD I loved your tutorial! Can you try wolf ears? I saw the fox ones, but I just need to know how to make it realistic like the wolf tail was :D
I use all my extra fluff for making felt animals or as stuffing. Yeah, I always stabbed myself in the beginning, but after my 3rd tail I became really good at special awareness haha. Probably could have worn a worker's glove, but I like to feel the fluffs between my fingers. You can just make them smaller than the fox ears and use wolf colored yarn. Always look at a reference :D. I would never have been able to achieve the realness in my yarn tail if I didn't look at a ref. I also make wolf ears and sell them in my Etsy shop. My shop is closed while I create new items but my IG username is: Zullalas.Shop if you wanted to brows my wares.
Zullala I couldn’t find one when I was looking so I instead got one of those really fine bristle brushes (you know the scratchy ones for hair) it works really well and I’m happy with the results
Thank you for this quick, straightforward easy to understand video. Most tutorials end up with 75% rambling about nonsense and 25% instruction -- this was great! Thank you!
wolf tail, fox tail, whatever, I just want a fluffy tail 😁 *wears tail & ears to school everyday* this tutorial is awesome x3 congrats on your patience with this project 😁 I'll probably end up insane- wait I am insane.... 😲 IM GONNA END UP NORMAL! NOOOOOO (ignore my pshycotic non-English x3)
Just made mine! Mines a bit short, but it took me less then 2 hrs. This was my method: I used a thin yarn for the base, it doesnt really matter how thick or thin the base it. Now, its very important that the rest of the yarn you use is very thick, like straight up wool. (Thicker then the one in the video) and if its thick enough, you can just pass it through the braid and tie it on. You dont need way to many strands, and you dont have to combine to many strands. Make sure that the end of the tail is long enough that you cant see the base, but if its the proper color you can just leave it. Make sure to brush out the yarn.
Your video was so informative about making the tail! I know it's not even close to be Halloween but I like it start early. I'm going to be the Cheshire Cat from Tim burtons movie and I'm so exited to make this tail!😄😆😁
my daughter and I just started making hers tonight .... we found that if we used lion brand wool-ease for the smaller pieces and seperated the two-ply strands before brushing them, it's super easy to brush out .... just thought we'd leave a heads-up.
Thank you so much! I don’t know how to sew and my mom doesn’t ethier and my fursuit doesn’t come with a tail I can’t wait to wear this and uh yeah thank you again!
Having fun making this for the first time, the tufts take forever though, (I did mine a tiny bit different but it looks the same just puffier) thanks for the tutorial. I also don't want to straighten the hair it just takes away from puffyness at least in my opinion.
So happy i found this! Ive wanted one of these fox tails for years but all the ones on ebay are actual fox tails! 😣😣😣 how someone could cut off a fox's tail for a fashiom statement?
I'm making one, from what I've noticed you need to knot the actaul fur part, I wrapped my tuffs 10 times then tied it cut most of the top strands off but two then just brush it out. So far no fall out after the brushing. When I tried her way I noticed there was so few strands and didn't like the look. Hope this helped maybe!
I like doing it this way, just because I can do it when I'm chilling at night, no need for sewing machine and other things that take me away from my comfy chair!
What do you recommend to use as a substitute for the hair-straightener? Do you wash it in warm water maybe? Also, is there a way to avoid losing that much fluff of the yarn? It seems like a bit of a waste so I was wondering whether there was a way to avoid this? Or at least have less of it fall out?
Making one for my sister atm just curious ...about how much yarn was used? So far I've used an entire thing of yarn I bought at walmart and I've just reached about 65% of the way. Same size as yours. Ran out so i have to get more! 😭
Yeah if you make it longer it will definitely be more wolf-like. If you make two brains instead of one, then join them using the fluffy tufts, it will be nice and thick too.
It's super handy to do, I made most of my fur tufts while watching Netflix and such. So you can take your time doing it, and you can't reaaaally make any mistakes!
Boy Geeks Girl you can buy braiding hair for less than $2 a pack. It just depends on how many colors you'd want because you'd have to probably buy them separately, but it would save you from all of the brushing
Daffodil Animates hair straightener stop it being so scraggly looking. If you have a flat iron/steam iron, you can try those. But if you look at the animal ears vid, I didn't straighten that, so you can see the difference.
Well imma try this this looks so amazing. Everyone else sews it in and I’m clumsy so xD also that lipstick look great on yewww^^ (also imma make mine more fluffy bc kitty cats)
I don't exactly feel like cutting, brushing and individually attaching 500 fluff tufts. Would it work out okay if I made the braid, tied strands to the braid and then brushed it out?
Andiroeea it'll be more difficult to brush out and straighten after it has been attached, but give it a go if you like. Plus you might not need 500, unless you're planning on making a giant tail.
I love your tail, it is so lovely. C: When you were adding the fluffs to the base were you adding the strings through the braid or wrapping it around it and knotting it?
Through the braid. so I'd tie it around one section of braid on the left, then a section of braid on the right. I even added to the middle in some places because of thickness issues.
Samantha Polchies yes I folded them in half so that I could tie a knot and make a loop at the top. then I braided the rest. the loop means that it can slide onto a belt, so that you don't have to sew a thing!
Guys! I am loving that so many of you are making tails! Tweet me @boygeeksgirl your tail pics, I am SO excited to see them!
I love it ! good thing I have purple, red, blue yarns it is so impressed
thanks 4 the video! i´ll use it for a cosplay :D
Boy Geeks Girl OMG are you Scottish!? I am
How long did this all take to make the entire tail ?
Boy Geeks Girl about how long did this take
tip for everyone who doesn't have a flat iron (like me):
just keep combing, eventually it will straighten out!
TacoCactusComedy depends on the wool. I didn't use flat irons when making furry ears and you can see the difference it does.
Flat irons should only be used on synthetic wool, if anyone wants to use natural sheep yarn or I dunno, a goat's, then just brushing it could work
Thanks for the advice
@@BoyGeeksGirl42 furry ears? Do we have a tutorial for it as well?
+Kellie Vollrath Yes she puts a video on how to make some in the 'i' icon thingy.
Yea I know but go much wool came out so I used it for a pillow
I find that a metal bristled pet brush works the best for smooth results ^^
Zullala, I used a fine toothed comb; it pulls less fluff out than a dog brush, and it's faster :3 you're also less likely to stab or scratch yourself XD I loved your tutorial! Can you try wolf ears? I saw the fox ones, but I just need to know how to make it realistic like the wolf tail was :D
I used a dog brush bc it made the fluff so smooth and soft
I use all my extra fluff for making felt animals or as stuffing.
Yeah, I always stabbed myself in the beginning, but after my 3rd tail I became really good at special awareness haha. Probably could have worn a worker's glove, but I like to feel the fluffs between my fingers.

Zullala ur a lifesaver, its so fluffy!
i literally love this, the fluffiness/ crimp of tail makes it look like a fire fox.
Thank you for this quick, straightforward easy to understand video. Most tutorials end up with 75% rambling about nonsense and 25% instruction -- this was great! Thank you!
Tip: do not use red heart (I think that's the brand) yarn. It breaks too easy and doesn't brush out nicely
To You I used red heart for mine and it turned out good, but its indeed a pain in the ass
haha im glad :)
Thank you because that's the only type of yarn at my house.
welp, thats all i have and im using it anyway
Red heart works just fine.
i LOVE THIS. im going to do a blue and black one. and a plain black one. but im making them a little longer.
that's brilliant!!
thank you! ·w·
Atomizer I'm doing the same thing!!!! But only a blue and black one (mint, dark blue, and black)
Atomizer.01 omg! Me too! Then ill do red for my foxy the pirate costume!

wolf tail, fox tail, whatever, I just want a fluffy tail 😁 *wears tail & ears to school everyday* this tutorial is awesome x3 congrats on your patience with this project 😁 I'll probably end up insane- wait I am insane.... 😲 IM GONNA END UP NORMAL! NOOOOOO (ignore my pshycotic non-English x3)
Fluffy tails should be worn everywhere!

TheOcelotGirl Yeah definitely, the thicker the wool, the quicker the result. As long a it's acrylic, it's all good.
I'm sure you get this all the time, but your accent is GORGEOUS! I love it!
Your video was so informative about making the tail! I know it's not even close to be Halloween but I like it start early. I'm going to be the Cheshire Cat from Tim burtons movie and I'm so exited to make this tail!😄😆😁
That is awesome! I love it! Thank you! I am going to use the information to try and make a smaller key chain as a gift.

my daughter and I just started making hers tonight .... we found that if we used lion brand wool-ease for the smaller pieces and seperated the two-ply strands before brushing them, it's super easy to brush out .... just thought we'd leave a heads-up.
oh that's a great tip, I'll be using that one, thanks!
two-ply? I got lion brand homespun 😞
Arlene Carron how long did it take you to finish it?
This worked great for my daughter’s Fox in Socks costume for school. Thanks!
Cool now I can make my blue wolf tail for my cosplay thx for making this
Thank you so much! I don’t know how to sew and my mom doesn’t ethier and my fursuit doesn’t come with a tail I can’t wait to wear this and uh yeah thank you again!
TBH you sounded like BMO from Adventure Time, great tutorial btw
Omg this was so cute! I watched this and won an anime cosplay event at school. Thanks!
Wow this is sooooo simple and the way the tail looks is awsome
Having fun making this for the first time, the tufts take forever though, (I did mine a tiny bit different but it looks the same just puffier) thanks for the tutorial. I also don't want to straighten the hair it just takes away from puffyness at least in my opinion.
On Friday I gotta go dressed like a artic fox to school so this was very helpful 💛
So happy i found this! Ive wanted one of these fox tails for years but all the ones on ebay are actual fox tails! 😣😣😣 how someone could cut off a fox's tail for a fashiom statement?
Thank you so so much this video was so useful my tail turned out beautifully
The tail looks pretty cool but the strands of fur like to fall off. After just a couple days of wearing mine I only had a couple pieces of fur left.
Me too
I'm making one, from what I've noticed you need to knot the actaul fur part, I wrapped my tuffs 10 times then tied it cut most of the top strands off but two then just brush it out. So far no fall out after the brushing. When I tried her way I noticed there was so few strands and didn't like the look. Hope this helped maybe!
Tie it more that’s what I did none of mine have fell of yet
Thank you for the advice.
Thanks for this tutorial!!! This was easy to follow, and came out wonderful. My daughter's Halloween costume is gonna rock this year!
U did this better than most tutorials idk how
Thanks! I'm gonna try this asap! Any yarn you would or wouldn't recommend?
I’m definitely turning this into a wolf tail this was so awesome and creative :D
I bought a bunch of like chunky wool yarn and made a pretty dope tail. I didnt try to do this method though. Im tempted to make another one now.
I like doing it this way, just because I can do it when I'm chilling at night, no need for sewing machine and other things that take me away from my comfy chair!
Thank you! This is such a cool idea. I'm doing it tomorrow, but im making mine longer. :D
Thank u so much I do cosplay and all the tails I find are really expensive this help me so much
I love it I made mines but black
thank you so much! this gave me such a great idea and I LOVE the results!
I only have like really fluffy yarn I wonder if that will work ty u for the vid I will try the fluffy yarn
This works so well! The straightener really helps a lot
I'm gonna try to do a marble fox tail!
Thank you for this tutorial! My son is the big bad wolf in a little skit.
I'm gonna do a teal tip with purple speckles on black!
Did you brush out the end bits after tying them on (for added fluff) or just conceal them within the pre-existing fluff?
Kelly Jumbelick I brushed them all out.
finished mine finally I love it sooooo much😁😁😁
I love foxes so much
She needs more subscribers! Awesome tutorial! I will make one!!
Wookiee SD why thank you! Also love the name, hail from Kashyyk by any chance?
cool and cute I loves fox
love the ombré
Thank you!!!
Awe cute great video
Awoo
owo

It seems like a bit of a waste so I was wondering whether there was a way to avoid this? Or at least have less of it fall out?
henry miggson unfortunately brushing the wool means you lose a lot of fluff. I just save it for other projects like stuffing or sometimes felting.
you are gorgeous!!! I was thinking about making a tail....but I dont think I will......Im too lazy. it looks great though!!
Can yky use a regular iron instead of hair straighteners with just a light press
I will try.
Do you have to flat iron the wool?? Will it still look good without flat ironing the wool??
This is so cool I will so do this for Halloween
you can basically do the same technique to make ears too!
+Boy Geeks Girl oh really how do you make the points of the ears
+Sofia Villasenor you get two triangles of felt. one for each ear. Brush out the wool like you did for the tail. Then you just sew or glue them on. x
+Boy Geeks Girl oh ok that sounds easy thx 🙂
Making one for my sister atm just curious ...about how much yarn was used? So far I've used an entire thing of yarn I bought at walmart and I've just reached about 65% of the way. Same size as yours. Ran out so i have to get more! 😭
How would you get the fluffiness all the way around? Doesn't the tied part show on the underside?
im going to make one that is a bit bigger and use it as a wolf tail
Yeah if you make it longer it will definitely be more wolf-like. If you make two brains instead of one, then join them using the fluffy tufts, it will be nice and thick too.
I've found that a carding comb for needle felting works better than a pet brush.
You have just solved all of my woolly problems. Thank you!
Wow awesone i liked!!
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! THIS IS THE BESTTTTTT;!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?YEAH,I WILL MADE THIS...😍😍😍😍😍
+Tereza Culo did you make it?
thanks I'm making a purple wolf tail that's quite small
LOL AT BEGINNING "HEY HO"
1. What kind if yarn do I use?2. Where do I get the yarn atThanks for showing me how to make this.
Loved this tutorial - it was super helpful! I think I'm going to go and make myself a fox tail now, hehe (if I have the patience :p)
It's super handy to do, I made most of my fur tufts while watching Netflix and such. So you can take your time doing it, and you can't reaaaally make any mistakes!
is the straightener necessary cause i don't have one will it still work out?
You could always use an iron on the lowest setting. It might be a bit cumbersome but not impossible.
Yes it will.
I made one and it was just really really fluffy I didn't use the flat iron straightener
no not at all just brush the yarn alot
Just keep on brushing.
Thank you so much!
I'm gonna do a rainbow one cause hats the only string or yarn I have lol
XShadowkinz unicorn tail
Why am I watching this....

I am going to do these
Can't wait to make this!!:)
This is so cute.
I just LOVE the colours. The blue & purple with the white, I love it oh so much!
Boy Geeks Girl same it works amazingly
Have you thought about making a tail out of kanekalon braiding hair? It's already about the same texture and I think it would be easier
BeautyCutie I have no idea what that is? How expensive is it? The reason so many use yarn is because it's so cheap.
Boy Geeks Girl you can buy braiding hair for less than $2 a pack. It just depends on how many colors you'd want because you'd have to probably buy them separately, but it would save you from all of the brushing
I'll give it a go, see how it works. Thanks for the great idea!
thx i really needed this video thx agin i will do this foe sure
ty so much I needed this for a Aphmau cosplay!
Would I be able to use this to make ears? But put something in to make it go straight up
You're better off following the ear tutorial I have. For fluffy ears
Do you have to have a hair straightener?? Because I have started to make mine and I don’t have a hair straightener, it’s just really fluffy!
Daffodil Animates hair straightener stop it being so scraggly looking. If you have a flat iron/steam iron, you can try those. But if you look at the animal ears vid, I didn't straighten that, so you can see the difference.
love your accent and btw you can use a dog comb(ironic)to brush it out too🐺🐺
Is it 100% acrylic yarn or no cause mine isn’t working very well.
Well imma try this this looks so amazing. Everyone else sews it in and I’m clumsy so xD also that lipstick look great on yewww^^ (also imma make mine more fluffy bc kitty cats)
Do you tie the tuft parts to the braid or into the braid?
Ty I made a Big Black wolf tail
I don't exactly feel like cutting, brushing and individually attaching 500 fluff tufts. Would it work out okay if I made the braid, tied strands to the braid and then brushed it out?
Andiroeea it'll be more difficult to brush out and straighten after it has been attached, but give it a go if you like. Plus you might not need 500, unless you're planning on making a giant tail.
Boy Geeks Girl thank you for such a quick reply! I plan to make a really long tail for an outfit aha c:
I know that it's a bit laborious, but you could always bribe some friends to help in exchange for pizza. Take some of the strain off 😁
Boy Geeks Girl hm now there's an idea haha. Thank you
My yarn just peel so much, i always end with a few strans where i had like 15,is that normal?
I love your tail, it is so lovely. C: When you were adding the fluffs to the base were you adding the strings through the braid or wrapping it around it and knotting it?
Through the braid. so I'd tie it around one section of braid on the left, then a section of braid on the right. I even added to the middle in some places because of thickness issues.
Oh, okay, thank you very much. C: Love your video and tail by the way.
If you want to save yarn, you can use old t shirts or leggings for the centre of the tail
That's absolutely right! T'shirt yarn is a great chunky centre part.
I loved the tutorial. Its almost exactly the way I make mine. But it would have been easier if you used a wire dog brush instead of a comb.
I did for some of it. but because of the type of wool I had to use the comb too. I broke my brush haha!
Are you able to make it in 1 day?
When you were braiding the base for the fox tail, was it just all the strings folded in half?
Samantha Polchies yes I folded them in half so that I could tie a knot and make a loop at the top. then I braided the rest. the loop means that it can slide onto a belt, so that you don't have to sew a thing!
so cool !!!
will the tufts come out?
How did you plait the wool and tie in all of the bits?
how do you know how far away to put the pieces of fur from each other?
does yarn work BTW I LOVE THIS IM GOING TO MAKE WITH MY MOM LATER❤❤❤❤
100% trying this.
