I used to watch these vids before I read the books or saw the show (the show wasn't out yet) and these characters were such a mystery... I found them fascinating... who were they? What was their story? The wonderful art and music together made me fall in love with this series before I ever read it. Then I read the first book and watched the first season of the show and it all came together. But my first introduction to ASoIaF were these fan made videos. They are still special to me.
I can't count how many times I've listened to this while reading the books like 15 years ago.... As someone said, this was so beautiful and untarnished by the show..
Takes me back to when I only had the books, my imagination and fantastic artwork online to refer to. Also reminds me how young the main characters were in the books compared to the TV show. Jon was only 17 when he became Lord Commander of the Wall for instance.
Gods bless the Starks of the north, and may The Gods take pity on the ones that have fallen, and allow the ones alive to have strength enough to live on and avenge their fallen family
imagine this...jon snow is actually neds nephew...son of lyanna stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, and ned had to keep the secret of jon's true identity...and howland reed is the only that knows that now. that would be pretty crazy!!
I agree with the theme of this comments page(which is "a dance with dragons" can't come soon enough) Epic saga that should be read by anyone with a trace of adventure in their soul!
When I first picked up ASOIAF I did not like it, could not get into it. It was the amazing fan artwork, and seeing clips like this one that got me back to it, and I have been hooked ever since.
Eddard is the wrong man in the wrong place. The intrigues and plots of court are alien to him. He came to King's Landing with the ideas that have grown on him in the north. He even opposed Robert. Also you can't say he's weak, he showed mercy and never took the easy way out of anything. He became The Hand out of duty, when he could have refused and he took Varrus's advice to save Sansa. He's not an idiot either. There were scenes in which he was thinking ahead of the characters around him.
I can't see why I can't... but since you didn't like it I'll tell you this: It's when "the hand of the king" lands on the Three Sisters, near to White Harbour, in the North. One of the characters there involved freely speaks about it. If you'd read it, you'd know what I am talking about. There. That's not going to spoil anything on the later books unless someones madly replies to this message and goes "woooops!".
I see how you would get that, but there's two things that you may have overlooked. 1. Martin doesn't really have a plan, he makes the story as he writes. He knows very litte more than you and I 2. Yes there's a lot of twists in his story, but just the same as with killing and surviving in the books, he wildly swings from predictable deaths to miraculous survival and the other way around. You just can't predict what he's going to do on the assumption that it would be too predictable.
man, i love the part with "promise me ned" ned was so honorable, that he didnt give a second thought to his actions, which is why sansa is at kings landing, why he is dead, and why arrya is at harrenhall im on the second book only, dont spoil it for me by sayn whats gona happen
You know when they said Winter is coming, I always thought everyone would actually feel the lose and dread of winter. But reading the books, you kinda feel, Winter did come but only to the Starks and it came with a vengeance. Its so sad and heart wrenching reading the red wedding, I wanted to throw the book in my anger lol.
@sinwolf12 The 3 eyed crow was the one who helped Bran wake up. It taught him "how to fly". The book game of thrones gives a detailed version of the series but basically all major plot points are in the TV series. Spoiler: The three-eyed crow was once a man of the Night's Watch. After the sack of Winterfell, Bran and co. looked for him and found him north of the Wall. He teaches Bran about greenseeing and skinchanging which almost all of the Stark children have. Spoiler. Hope that helps.
I think you are right sauron9990, I think Jon is the of Rheagar's and Lyanna. Eddard(Ned) made a promise to Lyanna about something, and I think it is(was) to keep Jon safe.
I think Jon is Eddark Stark's nephew (his sister's son), and a Targaryan... whom Stark is protecting because he knows Jon is the rightful heir to the Targaryan throne -- because the father was the Targaryan prince who was killed during the last great war. I predict Dany and Jon Snow will end up together and become the new king and queen.
you know, i recently watched one interview with him describing how he started with trilogy and then he realized it´d be more and then again. i kind of stopped believing that this number is final. plus next book is going to be the longest yet, so it´ll probably cover longer period.
he was so kind, (im on the 3rd now), and passed on to rob rob got killed, by walder frey, but just as much by ned, catelyn, edmure, jennye, the people who loved him if the imp was smart, he would ran with sansa to rob, escaped joff the luney and cersei, and advice robb, they woulda won the war i promise
@Levination That's just a cover up to protect the Jon. You know Robert hates the Targaryens. And Ned did make a promise. If you read the other books they even said, Ashara or even a fisherman's daughter is Jon's mother. But look at the signs and you will really see why a lot people believe in that theory.
@Doffz0r Basically it was part of the plot even from the beginning. Robb didn't have a major POV. And as it was suppose to be a trilogy, I think GRRM already planned to do this a long time ago. It was after all inspired by the Black Dinner. You have to understand GRRM hates the cliche that the good guys never dies & tries to be realistic. Reading it, I wanted to stab every Frey to death & wipe them out! But read DWD, you'll see Manderly gives it to them. The North remembers it does not forget.
Maybe, maybe not. He might even be that Thing called Coldhands for all i know ^^ Atleast we know he hasn't been very eager to come back to the wall by himself :DD
no, i think it´s something starks should do together. you know, using nymeria´s pack and remaining direwolfs, leaving message "winter is coming for you" everywhere and killing lannisters, boltons and freys one by one, so the rest would already be trembling from fear.
@alexpascu2785 Well, in once case he is bastard of a dead "traitor". In other, not only is he bastard with some right to the Iron throne, he also might be able to tame a dragon. I think difference is noticeable. Not to mention, in latter case, he has both fire and ice in his veins, which is kinda cool :D
this part is explained (or more hinted in book 1 and a little bit 2) so you should already know about that considering season 3 is about to start ... also it's not a spoiler cuz it's not verified ... even though I strongly think it's true ! finally if you don't wanna read about spoiler don't watch a video that has nothin about the series ... watch only trailer or clips of the series. I agree it's annoying to see spoilers but you're bound to find them if you look at comment of a nonseries video
@ramenshino You are misunderstanding. He IS a "traitor" in the opinion of almost every lord of the Southern Kingdoms (with exception of Riverlands). We, readers, know he isn't, but most guys in the story don't. Hell, even Robb and Cait don't have any proof he wasn't.
@BelindaKyle But it makes more sense that Lyanna died giving birth to Jon Snow than it is that Rhaegar killed her cuz in the book it says that Rhaegar loved her more than anything so then why did he killed her. It makes no sense
this was amazing! i love the stark children and this was a beautiful tribute video i think the song almost drove me to tears, especially see them as children and...ah well i blame it on my being overtired =) great video! what's the name of the song you used, by the way?
The female starks all looked just like lay lyanna-queen of love and beauty. Wolves are the symbol of the starks. Why winter is important to them? (I heard that somewhere on interent and on this video too.)
But thats because they always married each other and produced equaly white haired children. But in this case is a Stark and Targarian we dont know how the children would looked he may be with black/dark brown hair so in that regard is possible.
The name Baratheon started as a bastard of the Targaryens, Orys Baratheon was the first Baratheon and like half brother of Aegon I or cousin or something. anyway Robert actually has Targ blood in him giving all Baratheon rightful blood claim to the throne.
@mojothemigo Jon could be Lyanna and Rheagar's son. Which might explain Jon's Starkness, he takes it from his mother. If this is true that Lyanna's last words to Ned makes complete sense.
i realized i was reading the book till 2 o'clock in the morning, i was like in a trance, i rally like these books, specially tyrion, jon, and robb melisandre really irks me away from the book, hope she dies soon
Well I think the Targaryen's all had white blonde hair because they were sharing and passing down that same gene over and over through imbreeding, and since the Starks have darker hair, which is a dominant gene (hair colour isn't a gene that 'mixes' ie blonde + dark = light brown), Jon being Lyanna's son is possible.
Yup, Aegons claim supercedes Jons in this theory, however if it is proven that Rhaegar set his true wife aside for Lyanna... would that invalidate Aegon? Or at ast strengthen Jons claim? Either way if Aegon somehow dies Jon is next in line.
No, if this theory proves to be true, Aegon VI is the rightful heir, and then Jon as the second, but maybe Daenerys because Jon would be a Targaryen bastard too. And Jon's appearance is quite strange as for Targaryen blood.
@sauron9990 If that is true, then there has been a huge plot contradiction the writers part. Dany (Danyreus?) would have married another Targarian and he looks a ton like Eddard. If he really was a Targarian, the author would have given him that imbreed blond hair or athleast something lighter then Eddard's grey-black.
I used to watch these vids before I read the books or saw the show (the show wasn't out yet) and these characters were such a mystery... I found them fascinating... who were they? A beautiful comment and it truly resonates with me - I feel the same.
I can't count how many times I've listened to this while reading the books like 15 years ago....
As someone said, this was so beautiful and untarnished by the show..
Lovely to see a tribute video filled with art inspired only by the books, untarnished by the imagery in the TV show!
Takes me back to when I only had the books, my imagination and fantastic artwork online to refer to. Also reminds me how young the main characters were in the books compared to the TV show. Jon was only 17 when he became Lord Commander of the Wall for instance.
feels weird to me that I'm only reading these books now when videos like this were made more than a decade ago.
The winter looks like is going to be the Starks great time... i have that feeling
Theon's chapters were the highlight of that book... He's one of my favorite characters now
amazing! Just how i pictured everyone! Love the series.
Gods bless the Starks of the north, and may The Gods take pity on the ones that have fallen, and allow the ones alive to have strength enough to live on and avenge their fallen family
This is the most beautiful music.. thanks for uploading all this!
That is an amazing piece of music
imagine this...jon snow is actually neds nephew...son of lyanna stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, and ned had to keep the secret of jon's true identity...and howland reed is the only that knows that now. that would be pretty crazy!!
Great video! It really captures the whole feel of the first book!
After writing that comment and some thinking, I came to the same conclusion. You are absolutely right
This song reminds me of a video game named Northland (with cute little vikings)... It had similar soundtrack, I loved it!
Excellent video ! I think the Starks will rise again, the North remembers...
The King in the NORTH!!!!!!
I agree with the theme of this comments page(which is "a dance with dragons" can't come soon enough) Epic saga that should be read by anyone with a trace of adventure in their soul!
This is how the game is played. The man who sits atop the tallest stack of bones can reach the highest.
Beautiful.
Winter Is Coming

Poor Starks, but chin up - I hope they´ll rise again with more badassary than ever before. Go, Sansa!
I can't see why I can't... but since you didn't like it I'll tell you this:

There. That's not going to spoil anything on the later books unless someones madly replies to this message and goes "woooops!".
I hope Jon get through the story without being executed, shot, sliced, diced, slashed, poisoned or dead. Go Jon Snow!
..and Arya is hungry, and not for food... now that is a good sentence
thats why i put in the "im on the 3rd now"
at the begining
It's 'Monestary of La Rabida' by Vangelis. From the soundtrack of '1492: Conquest of Paradise'
That is what Godric Borrell thought it has not been confirmed.
I see how you would get that, but there's two things that you may have overlooked.
1. Martin doesn't really have a plan, he makes the story as he writes. He knows very litte more than you and I

Promise me Ned, that you will take care of the child.I will Lyana, I will.
Ned was so honorable... and innocent
man, i love the part with
"promise me ned"
ned was so honorable, that he didnt give a second thought to his actions, which is why sansa is at kings landing, why he is dead, and why arrya is at harrenhall
im on the second book only, dont spoil it for me by sayn whats gona happen
That's the theory I believe in. Makes sense.
That's completely unconfirmed and generally considered wrong.
You know when they said Winter is coming, I always thought everyone would actually feel the lose and dread of winter. But reading the books, you kinda feel, Winter did come but only to the Starks and it came with a vengeance. Its so sad and heart wrenching reading the red wedding, I wanted to throw the book in my anger lol.
good luck to Davos in his searching of Rickon :-)
@sinwolf12 The 3 eyed crow was the one who helped Bran wake up. It taught him "how to fly". Plus, Rhaenys, Rhaegars daughter, also didn't have the Targaryen looks, but took after her Dornish mother.
Make no mistake, the Starks will have the last laugh, with the old G-d's of the North.
That's the best part.
I think you are right sauron9990, I think Jon is the of Rheagar's and Lyanna. Eddard(Ned) made a promise to Lyanna about something, and I think it is(was) to keep Jon safe.
The Starks are the best in all of the seven kingdoms
It's time for wolves of course...
Jeje.
Winter is coming...
Yep. The books are largely about justice, and how rarely it is practiced.
Winter is coming!!!
omigawsh never thought about it that way! that's an awesome theory and I bet it's true :D
2:02 yeah! Jon and Ghost ^^
It is not certain. It's also stated that his mother is a woman from the Sisters. I honestly believe Jon is Rhaegar and Lyanna's son.
Very good video!
@VitaAngelus What about reading the books, where it's stated his mom is a dornish princess who jumped from her tower when Eddard left her
you know, i recently watched one interview with him describing how he started with trilogy and then he realized it´d be more and then again. i kind of stopped believing that this number is final. plus next book is going to be the longest yet, so it´ll probably cover longer period.
oh that was lovely, thank you
he was so kind, (im on the 3rd now), and passed on to rob
rob got killed, by walder frey, but just as much by ned, catelyn, edmure, jennye, the people who loved him
if the imp was smart, he would ran with sansa to rob, escaped joff the luney and cersei, and advice robb,

Or maybe he'll be the only Stark alive, and hence continue the Stark bloodline.
that was awesome
Maybe, maybe not. He might even be that Thing called Coldhands for all i know ^^ Atleast we know he hasn't been very eager to come back to the wall by himself :DD
The North Remember!
no, i think it´s something starks should do together. you know, using nymeria´s pack and remaining direwolfs, leaving message "winter is coming for you" everywhere and killing lannisters, boltons and freys one by one, so the rest would already be trembling from fear.

2:18 Get out of there, Three-eyed Crow! You're not a Stark!!
@HighlanderNK yep, i'm on the fourth book now....crazy stuff. and sad stuff =( these books are so good
this was amazing!
i love the stark children and this was a beautiful tribute video
i think the song almost drove me to tears, especially see them as children and...ah well i blame it on my being overtired =)
great video!

This video is absolutely fantastic... Well done
What is the song? I love it
George Martin, why do you hate the Starks so much? Please don't kill any more. Thanks, from a concerned fan.
Oh, and Jon Snow counts.
Winter is Coming
And the Boltons.
love tyrion
But thats because they always married each other and produced equaly white haired children. But in this case is a Stark and Targarian we dont know how the children would looked he may be with black/dark brown hair so in that regard is possible.

Team Starks!
The song is awesome! can you tell me what is it? who composed that?
House Bolton is very small. Roose and Ramsay I think.
Read farther and use your brains a bit and you'll find that he IS Ned Stark's son, but there was no dishonor there.
Just because idea that John is a Targaryen, I'm pretty sure that won't be the case :D
Yup, Aegons claim supercedes Jons in this theory, however if it is proven that Rhaegar set his true wife aside for Lyanna... would that invalidate Aegon? Or at ast strengthen Jons claim? Either way if Aegon somehow dies Jon is next in line.

I think coldhands will make a mark on the whereabouts of benjen stark (just a guess tho) roll on dance!!
ALL NORTHMEN CALL THE BANNERS AND MARCH AGAINST THE FLOWERY SOUTHERNERS!!!!!!
Waaaah!
Sniff
Can someone tell me where i can get those beutiful arts especially on 1:39
Cool
yeah. i had similar fears. my friend´s reaction? "of course he´ll die before finishing the books!" i so hope she´s wrong :D.
Don't forget the boltons!!!!!
What is the name of this song? Nice video!
@Iandrasill Let me save your life then, it's Monastery of La Rabida by Vangelis :-)
