  • How to remove the radio on a Ford Ranger. This particular vehicle I am working with here today is a 1998 Ford Ranger, but this procedure applies to various generation and possibly other Ford models as well. This procedure should also apply to the Mazda B Series truck too. #FordRanger #MazdaBSeries #Ford

    Tools/Supplies Needed:
    -torx driver
    -socket set and ratchet
    -radio removal tools
    Procedure:
-there is actually two ways to remove this radio on this particular vehicle and I will show you both
-it’s best to disconnect the battery first as a safety precaution
-first there will be two fasteners which need to be removed below the stereo just above the hvac controls
-the stereo does actually require special removal tools which are basically just a dowel that inserts in the four holes, two on each side of the radio
-the dowels disengage retaining clips which holds it into place
-unfortunately these clips don’t always cooperate
-so if you are having issues or do not have the tools, the radio can be removed with the bezel
-once removed there will be two wires that need to be disconnected
-one is the main harness for the radio which has a tang on the side and the other is the antenna wire that simply pulls straight out
-on the bezel, you will need to remove the cigarette lighter connector and the connector for the auxiliary 12v output if equipped
-the clips can be pushed down by hand, first unclipping the one side and then moving around to the opposite side
-the radio can now be slide out of it’s location

Great video as usual, I like your idea of removing the entire bezel if the clips are stuck. Those radio removal tools are surprisingly hard to find, I tried two parts stores before I gave up and used a coat hanger lol.

Yep, 4 nails work in the same way.
Really whatever can push the clips, I've used 4 picks in the past from Harbour Freight. Likely less expensive than purchasing the actual tool.

Thank you for the feedback, greatly appreciated :) I bought mine years ago when I had the VW. I think it came from Best Buy and was under $10. I used little electronic's screwdrivers in the past for Ford specifically, VW used slots instead though.

Hoping you will see this comment (question): When you show the removal of all the plug-ins from the rear of the stereo unit, there is a wire harness (over by the antenna plug) that is not attached to anything. Would you know what this harness is for? I have an '04 Ranger, and, while installing a new stereo (w/help from another of your videos--THX!), I noticed this unused harness/plug and wondered what the heck it might be. Liked and subbed.

Thank you for the support! Some vehicles are prewired for more options than what they currently have. Sometimes it’s cheaper to have one generic harness from the factory than multiples. I’m not sure what the harness is with seeing it, but it could be for steering wheel controls, a cd changer, climate control, etc.

I have this same exact car and radio, I made a burnt CD, and it keeps saying Error. But when I put other cd in the CD player it can play. I need help, why does it always say error when o put mine in ?

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

You'll most likely need to burn it as a music cd where you'll only have about 16 songs per disc.
