Your video just recently appeared today and was glad to see it. I have a 4.5 year old mini Schnauzer. My wife and I started her on the raw diet at 8 weeks old. It takes us just over 2 hours a month preparing her food that includes grinding and cleanup. We also dehydrated 2 lbs beef liver then cut into small cubes, freeze and use for her treats
Fantastic video. I also love side seat drivers in the comments section commenting with things like "oh your dog also needs this, oh how can you not give that." The reality is how you're feeding your dog is still 100x better than any of those random dog food kibble most people are using.
Thank you for this video. Ten years ago, we started feeding our dogs homemade dog food. Unfortunately, the 1st gen recipes relied heavily on carbs. (I'm still convinced even with the higher carbs it was healthier than dry commercial kibble.) They lived well past the estimated age range for the breed. Nonetheless, we're still learning and we're using this recipe with hard boiled eggs we put through the grinder as well (we have an abundance) to feed our new pup. We used your link for the grinder as our 20+ yr old grinder started wearing out, putting bone through it. Blessings to you guys and may Sprocket have a long healthy life. ❤🤍
Thank you so much for your first video that you did with your German Shepherd. I have a 18 month old Cane Corso, who I have tried 20 different foods with him finally decided to do the raw and he loves it. I appreciate your videos and all the information that you put out there. Thank you so much!
I've experimented with all kinds of raw feeding and its a pain to get it nutritionally balanced every meal... Your simple approach is appealing to many people starting. I would encourage you to evaluate the idea of adding 1 egg 4x/week, 1 whole frozen sardine 2-3x week, broccoli sprouts if easy to find, and a dr mercola meal mix packet 1x daily to get the micronutrients your big pup may be missing. It was formulated by a holistic vet and the creator of the world's first raw food diet. The freeze dried organs are so much easier than raw organs every meal

Thx for the update! I've been adding more and more raw to my dog's diet for the last year. Even at 5 years old we see a noticeable difference in his energy level and overall health. Your first video(s) on the subject helped me by making it easier and less stressful to start adding raw and perfecting his meals over time as I learn. I may not have gotten everything 100% right from day one, but it is clear that he has been better off the whole time as opposed to just doing kibble and processed canned food. He just had a great checkup, perfect health and the vet says to keep doing whatever i am doing. I know you said you got some comments saying the "recipe" used is not exactly what some others would do. These recommendations change over time and we all get better as we educate ourselves (as you recommended) to do the best we can. My loved pet is healthier and happier because I came across your content last year. That is just a solid fact that is not debatable. 🙂 So, thank you for sharing what you do, it has helped!
Hi there! I just wanted to say THANK YOU for posting this video! I am getting a dog in a few days and I have been thinking for a very long time about making sure I can give him the best diet, aka raw, however I always got discouraged after watching video after video of these crazy meals and the thought of how expensive they would be. This video gives me the hope and assurance that it can be affordable and my boy Winston will be a happy healthy pup without breaking Mama's bank 😂 p.s. you have a GORGEOUS German Shepard!
omg thanks for the info. I got into this from randomly watching Amazon Prime documentary about dog food industry and it was disgusting. I felt so bad for my dog. I wasn't sure where to buy the meat and how to feed them. Your meat grinder method, buying bulk from GFS, and break down of cost is all I needed to start. I'm wanting to do this but I was so lost. Thank you.
1:30 We use home depot 5 gallon buckets with liners to drop the grind in. stays cleaner and easier to handle. We grind about 170+ pounds of hind quarters alone. 250+ lbs when we package up. Good for about 2 months on food feeding our dogs 2.3% of their weight
Have adopted your feeding method for my five year old Lab. Ended his diarrhea! So glad to not be in the "what dog food is best" endless circle. One thing I do different is for treats I give him raw sweet potato. Usually peel and cut up four or five medium to large size, then freeze them in glass containers. Also add soft boiled eggs to his meal several times a week. He has never been healthier or happier. On behalf of Deca (Deeka) and myself thanks.
Sprocket is AWESOME. What a handsome devil. While my wife and I are trying to transition our girls, a 5 year old American Pitbull Terrier, a 4 year old Doberman, and a 1 year old Doberman, away from kibble we have NEVER done anything but veggie snacks or chicken hearts, etc. So awesome to see others doing the same. I work with people who give their dogs macaroni, cookies, ice cream, etc. They always get pissy and say What????? They’re still alive and they like it!!! Thank you for the info. Will most definitely attempt this with our girls.
Yes, it is ironic that friends who feed the worst foods (like Iams kibble or Science diet kibble) are the most vocal about criticizing those of us who feed raw and/or home cooked, balanced food to our dogs. I think it is their way of feeling less guilty about what they feed by acting holier than thou despite the horrific ingredients listed on the kibble labels and all the tragic recalls.
Loving your videos. I'm in the UK and been feeding my two rescue dogs high quality commercial raw for 6 years but I'm retired and need to get the costs down. I've been nervous of doing it myself but you've given me the confidence to get started.Thank you. 😀
I have 3 dogs and keep going back and forth between raw and kibble due to the fact of how confusing and expensive raw is. Thank you for making it feel like this commitment to feeding raw won’t be as hard as I make it
Hey there, I really appreciate this video!! I have a German shepherd as well and I want to change to raw diet and this honestly blew my mind, never thought of grinding it myself!! I looked on line and found a grinder for $30 like yours and I’m going to do this! Amazing and happy I found this video on my feed! Thank you 😊
Hi Brittany, Thank you so much for sharing those informative videos! They've really boosted my confidence in starting to make my own dog food. Watching your process and hearing your insights have been incredibly helpful. As I embark on this new feeding regimen for my dog, I have a few questions about the transition: 1- Is it normal for their stool to be less frequent or smaller in volume compared to when they're on dry dog food? 2- I noticed you use lean meat in addition to leg quarters. Could you share your reasons for this choice? 3- I'm considering triple grinding the meat, especially since I plan to initially cook it to ensure the bones are thoroughly crushed. Are there any downsides to this method that you're aware of?
I love how you have him wait a moment before eating, when people come over to visit they are always surprised that my boy will wait for as long as I ask him too. It helps to reinforce that hierarchy.
I had a Bouvier des Flandres who would do that. I would put his food down in front of him and say "Wait", then I would walk out of the room and into the kitchen to get an egg or something extra. I would return and he would be still be sitting there patiently. I would crack the egg into the bowl, mix it, step back and wait a moment. The entire time his eyes would never leave my face. He never looked at the food, never made a sound of protest. Just sat there quietly and attentively until I said "Okay". Only then would he look to his food and eat. It always impressed people who witnessed it. No matter how long I was gone or how long I took to say "okay", he waited.
Howdy! Love your vid! Quick ?, Is there a big difference between feeding raw organs (beef liver) rather than freeze dried? I currently feed my 4 GSD’s freeze dried but was debating on getting actual liver if it is more beneficial. Thanks !
Thank you so much for this video, especially including the My Ollie food. My older (but smaller dog) is on it and it’s been great. But we have a Golden Retriever now who is apparently allergic to literally everything. The price comparison to prepping your own to one of our current brand was superrrrr helpful (especially since they won’t work for our Golden anyway).
Raw diet is the best thing I ever did for my dog 6 years ago. Never had a stomach issue or diarreah since. Fur has never been softer or smoother. I buy mine pre-made because she's only 11 pounds and it doesn't make sense for me to waste the time when it only costs 30 bucks a month to feed her by buying it, but for a large dog you 100% need to go your route.
Back when I started I did it myself and every Sunday was entirely devoted to meal prepping but I also knew damn well what was going into it. I’ve been using k9 raw, prior to that an amazing family run business that went out of business. It’s so damn expensive I can’t keep up anymore with companies. So far I can tell biggest bang for your buck as far as company raw food is k9 rawfed and the next one up is RAW. Both would cost me about $389.00 ish for my mini Aussie and my massive husky/Aussie mix. Barely last over a month and just can’t keep doing it but I also refuse to go back to kibble as raw has improved my dogs lives tremendously so now I’m looking at doing it myself again
JewDd*89 Blessings and hey, K9raw is pretty good I tried a few things there, but have to go back because my dogo is allergic to chicken and beef she did care for the chicken or beef roll, so I have to go back and the lamb and turkey and see how that works and cut back more on the Canidae salmon and sweet potatoe kibble. Thank you much and God Bless
Yes it can get a little pricey especially for my dogo cause she greedy greedy and love meat. Especially ground turkey with sweet potatoes spinach celery broccoli, God Bless
This is great! You've really encouraged me. I have a LGD that's having digestive issues, seems yeasty, and has a chronic ear ache. I found you're videos more helpful than anything else I've been finding online. I feel like I can do this now!
Thank you! Hopefully I'll be back more frequently. Unfortunately, because I keep my recipe as simple as possible, not much really changes over time so I run out of things to record lol
Thanks for the update. I love how your dog loves vegetables, my dogs won't go near them, or fruits. That's why I cooked their meals, to hide the veggies. 😄 Unfortunately, one of my dogs is allergic to chicken, so I give him lamb.
Thank you for sharing all this info. I'm getting my fur baby in a month and have been wondering how to go about this whole way of feeding... Video has been of great encouragement and help. Thank you
Blessings and thank you much for the video and information, so many many videos out there I have been overwhelmed and get overwhelmed but will definitely try your great way and see what happens, because I’m tired of allergies and scratching sometimes tired lol thank you much and God Bless
Finally something simple, thank you!!! We’ve got a 50 lb dog so we would just feed half the amount, 1 lb per day. It’s impossible to find leg quarters near me, if we did bone in thighs would just do 12 oz bone in chicken thighs, 4 oz ground beef, and 1 capsule?
I generally mix raw with kibble. My two dogs get two raw eggs with raw meat/poultry. My female husky mix gets green lipped sea mussels supplement mixed in, my old dog gets Triacta maximum strength for his joints. For an old guy He's hoppy. While my girlie has a suicidal curiousity
I was the same, but for cats. Read all sorts of guides with long lists of artificial additives and was put off. Eventually found a more casual FB group that advocated a more natural and holistic approach and I took the plunge into raw feeding about 8 years ago now. Wow, didn't realise it had been that long. I do make sure to get a variety of animal proteins and organs but I rarely get anything exotic. 80/10/10, chicken, beef & pork muscle meats, chopped. I did buy a grinder at the start but found a supplier that did a 50% bone mince so just buy it pre-ground now. Liver, kidneys, or whatever organ I can find. Plenty of fresh/frozen organ available in the UK. Eggs, pilchards. All mixed up and frozen in containers. 2 hours for 3 months food for 2 cats - £70. Happy, healthy cats. Glad to see that you have balanced it a little more than before - I fully agree with balance over time but it did appear rather unbalanced. Before
Thanks for the update! What do you think about pumpkin powder? Just curious if dogs like it enough to top dress with? I’m sure I probably just missed it somewhere, but what brand and model is your grinder? Thanks!!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I’m so happy I came across your channel. We also have a GSD and he’s 41/2 years old. I’ve been wanting to transition him into the raw diet but like you mentioned so much info out there I got overwhelmed 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. You made it so simple in your video I’m going to go for it …but now to research the transition as my vet is against the raw diet it’s ridiculous to discuss it. However, I’ve been giving him Instinct the raw brand the wild caught salmon . I’ve been so skeptical about giving him different kinds of flavors … I’ve only given him the Turkey and salmon kind 🤦🏻♀️again so much info out there about mixing red meats and salmon, chicken it’s been so confusing .I just kept to one kind and his treats… poor dog,I feel so terrible 😞. But thankfully I have time to switch him and 🙏🏻🙏🏻for a happier dog . Also I think if you don’t have or can’t get the grinder we can ask to have the meat grind it for us right? Ty so much really appreciate this video!🙌🏼💕
We just got this same grinder and began using it this weekend. We noticed that even with the smallest holes on the attachment there are still small bone fragments. How do you eliminate that or does it not affect them since they’re smaller? Loved your video!
Small bits are alright. If you look closely at the bits of bones they should still be fairly spongy for bone and small enough not to cause any obstruction. Cooked/dehydrated bone is the dangerous bit - the fragments from those are much, much sharper and more brittle.
I’m having a really hard time keeping up with the DIY raw dog food. I’ve added in everything daily from kidney - liver - etc so I just ordered your recommended beef organs thank you! I think this will take a lot of stress off of me. Also, how did you know how many supplements to feed?
Hey, just curious if you’re going to do another update video? I’m basically doing the same diet but cook veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes) she’s 9 months golden retriever and her blood work came back great :) thank you for your videos
Why are some of you giving her a hard time blah blah blah. Look, I’m a Retired Vet Tech who left veterinary medicine because of all of the bullshit. We were always told to feed diets like Science Diet, Iams or Eukanuba which are absolute CRAP. What they are feeding is way better than any processed, starchy food that I’m pretty convinced is not food at all. Add veggies, fruits whatever you want but currently thoughts are changing from the belief that canines are omnivores to now believing they, like cats, are in fact true carnivores. So if that’s the case then do they really need veggies and fruits?? They for sure don’t need grains. Nuff said. I love her videos and I give her kudos for jumping into the fray to help others help their pets…thank you!
Hey there! Thank you for making it simple and inexpensive! 2 questions....what size grinder do you have? Also, do you ever need to kennel your dog? If so, will they store and follow the diet? Thanks!
Thanks for the vid! I have been feeding homemade cooked food for my pups for over a year but have been looking into doing more raw so I appreciate the info. One thing that caught my attention was feeding leftover grain from making beer, not sure if hops is included in your mix but please know that hops are toxic and very dangerous to dogs.
I'm getting ready to get a #22 grinder to make our own dog food. We raise meat rabbits and so will have plenty of organ meat and bones/rib cage meat and eggs from chickens. Can't wait. Just having to save up for the expensive grinder.
It's so cute when he eats the raw treats. I wouldn't want to sound like a crazy person with the following question. What preventative measures can I take to reduce risks of health problems, be them genetic, or not. I have been doing my best to research, because I can't get a dog, unless I can ensure that I'm doing everything properly - health, safety, preventative measures, and so forth. I do my best to ensure my wife and two sons (3 and 5) eat well, drink purified water, are kept safe, healthy, and clean... And I can't see why a dog won't fall into the same level of care, and caution.
So just curious how much of a change did you see with the raw diet ? Also where did you get your containers? I have 2 pups 1 just had TPLO surgery and I'm sick of kibble I think it's causing major health issues. Also ice cubes aka water cookies 😂
Have purchased raw dog food from the pet shops both the freeze-dried and frozen. I'm looking to make my own as super expensive buying at pet the store speed $150-$200 per week on 2 pitbull rescues. Curious when shopping at the grocery store how do you avoid parasites or does the freezing pretty much kill them?
I've been feeding Raw to my dogs and cats for over 10 years. The only suggestion I have is to add some different protein sources although it is good that you were adding the beef organs along with the chicken meat and bones. Throw in a couple of cans of sardines in water here and there. And some raw eggs with the shell smashed up. And maybe you do this, you said that you found meat at the store on sale so just look in different areas. Pork is a good thing also. And I know the emphasis is try to be "complete and balanced "but nobody truly knows what that is. They think they do but they really don't if you push them hard enough on the topic. Even the guy who came up with the barf diet plan, Dr. Billingsley or Billingham?, Admits that they don't really know what complete and balanced means. I would be a little concerned that your dog is going to get a chicken allergy if that's all he eats so just mix it up a little bit more would be my only suggestion.
Hi sorry, do you only give him chicken? Should I mix other meats as well? Like can I do ground Turkey one day , chicken another and duck another day ? Or should it be one kind per certain times?🤦🏻♀️appreciate all the feed back Ty 💕
Love that your feeding your dog a species appropriate diet, I also feed my dogs and kitten a raw diet and its great to see you encouraging others to do the same and showing off how you make it easy to fit into your daily life. However this looks more like a PMR (Prey Model Diet) rather than a complete and balanced whole food diet which in this case would then need more synthetic supplements. Do you add extra supplements not shown in the video to meet his micro nutrient requirements? If not I highly recommend you watch the Paws of prey AAFCO requirements video which basically breaks down the missing pieces generally not found in PMR diets it reaI
really opened my eyes! I hope this will just be another source of info for you and others and definitely hope you don't take offense I really do think that what you are doing is awesome and your clearly doing the best you can for that HANDSOME BOY!! My rescue puppy was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia and HOD at 4 1/2 months
I asked my vet about feeding raw food. Surprisingly, she wasn't against it but did recommend to add grains to the raw food such as rice, beans etc.. thats its very important they get the proper grains in their diets. curious if you've tried to incorporate grains mixed in the raw meat or just once in a blue like you mentioned. I love your grinding method. I think I will do it that way too as my pup inhales his food
Thanks for the videos. I’m getting ready to grind chicken quarters for my 20 lb Lab Puppy, I would not grind raw pork as I thought it carried parasites? What additives do you put in the grinder with the chicken?
I was about buying $459 one according to the link she had on the previous video, then I found this updated video which liked to $759. Actually, I found her answer below and said either one works.
hello there. thanks for your great video. question on the meat grinder you use. there are different HP ones. on the other video the grinder link takes you to a 750 watts grinder. just want to make sure I invest in one that can do the job of grinding the bones. thank you
How did you figure out the amount of each “ingredient” to give them? I have a 6 month old puppy I want to start on raw and I seem to have stumbled upon a calculator that provides the percentages of the types of food that he’s going to need to stay balanced but it’s still slightly confusing for me 😭 I’ll be buying most if not all of what you’ve bought for them and slowly start changing and adding as he grows so thank you for showing everything in detail! It was super informative!
Thanks for sharing, we tried the raw food diet on our dogs and it really messed up their movements and being inside dogs that didn't go well. New to your channel and look forward to watching more.
Yeah that's understandable. There's definitely a transition period where their bodies have to get used to it. My dog had the runs for a couple days at the beginning but after that it's smooth sailing
Research Carracachans Breed. They were fed oatmeal and fruit and vegetables only and lived to be 20 years old. Our dogs have evolved to ear grains and produce. New studies show a non grain diet can cause enlarged heart syndrome.
Love your video. Thank you Just one question: do you give your dog eggs and what about oils , like fish oil that is specially recommended by veterinarian.
Hello. Thank you for your videos. I started feeding raw food to my dog, and your videos have been helpful. I wanted to ask you, where can I buy the big box of chicken with cone and skin. Thanks

Hi Brittany,
Thank you so much for sharing those informative videos! They've really boosted my confidence in starting to make my own dog food. Watching your process and hearing your insights have been incredibly helpful.
As I embark on this new feeding regimen for my dog, I have a few questions about the transition:
1- Is it normal for their stool to be less frequent or smaller in volume compared to when they're on dry dog food?

Thank you so much for this video, especially including the My Ollie food. My older (but smaller dog) is on it and it’s been great. But we have a Golden Retriever now who is apparently allergic to literally everything. The price comparison to prepping your own to one of our current brand was superrrrr helpful (especially since they won’t work for our Golden anyway).
Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad it was helpful ☺️
2:32 we switched about 9 months ago from plastic containers to FoodSaver bags. much easier.
What a cutie🥰 Thanks for sharing your process --- Solid teamwork🤜⚡️🤛
You've got this!! Anything is better than nothing ☺️
We missed your great content!
Thank you! Hopefully I'll be back more frequently. Unfortunately, because I keep my recipe as simple as possible, not much really changes over time so I run out of things to record lol
Here for the update just watched first video thank you for straight to the point vids .
Thanks for the update!! Great Job!!
Do you reuse the containers? Are they dishwasher safe type containers? Thank you so much for this great message for our much loved pets.
Thanks for the update. I love how your dog loves vegetables, my dogs won't go near them, or fruits. That's why I cooked their meals, to hide the veggies. 😄
Unfortunately, one of my dogs is allergic to chicken, so I give him lamb.
What model is the grinder. There are many and I'm looking for hp. You're works really good and not too loud.
Thank you for sharing. Really appreciate the info. Hopefully I can find some chicken hearts at Publix. Any other suggestions for places to look?
Fantastic video, great information...Thanks
Finally something simple, thank you!!! We’ve got a 50 lb dog so we would just feed half the amount, 1 lb per day. It’s impossible to find leg quarters near me, if we did bone in thighs would just do 12 oz bone in chicken thighs, 4 oz ground beef, and 1 capsule?
Awesome information, thank you so much.
Before
Thank you
I will be starting this too for my dog thank you
Brilliant!
im thinking on buying the same bone grinder, do you think it can handle stronger bones like turkey ?
Your dog is beautiful
Thank you!
What meat grinder are you using? I like that it handles the bones too
Thanks for the update! What do you think about pumpkin powder? Just curious if dogs like it enough to top dress with?
I’m sure I probably just missed it somewhere, but what brand and model is your grinder?
Thanks!!
My boy Tonto loves ice cubes and broccoli too :)) he’s a 1 year old 100lb German shepherd 💕💕
We put peanut butter on the celery and give to the dogs for treats and they loveee it lol
P.S. your GSD is adorable and seems so happy . Also ty for the added vegetable treats part in the video he looks so happy. He has great parents 🤗
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 😊
Hey there! Thank you for making it simple and inexpensive! 2 questions....what size grinder do you have? Also, do you ever need to kennel your dog? If so, will they store and follow the diet? Thanks!
So great! I'm on it.
Beautiful dog! Any fish oils for omegas?
When are you posting more
Thanks for the vid!
Thank you, have just subscribed. Have just started my Boxer dog on raw, how much food do you feed your dog a day please?
Can you please tell me the exact model number or your grinder? We want the exact same one. The link takes us to several options. Thanks!
hi brittany, your dogs are so lucky. this food looks very healthy. they eat minced meat everyday?
I hit that like button and I am subscribed
Thank you so much!! 😁
3:32 awww you have a GSD too.
What brand and model of grinder do you use? Great video ❤
Wondering the same thing!
Thanks so much. Very helpful
Awesome 👏
It's so cute when he eats the raw treats. I wouldn't want to sound like a crazy person with the following question. What preventative measures can I take to reduce risks of health problems, be them genetic, or not. I have been doing my best to research, because I can't get a dog, unless I can ensure that I'm doing everything properly - health, safety, preventative measures, and so forth. I do my best to ensure my wife and two sons (3 and 5) eat well, drink purified water, are kept safe, healthy, and clean... And I can't see why a dog won't fall into the same level of care, and caution.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
So just curious how much of a change did you see with the raw diet ? Also where did you get your containers? I have 2 pups 1 just had TPLO surgery and I'm sick of kibble I think it's causing major health issues. Also ice cubes aka water cookies 😂
do you grind the leg quarters?
Tip, use ox liver instead of chicken liver. It has more protein, vitamin a and copper
Excellent! 🐕
My big guy loves his ice as well😍😁
Great. What plate size do you use?
Grains do absolutely nothing for dogs. They do NOT need them. I would question the intelligence of any Vet advocating grains for dogs.
@@Dero_milsurp a little aggressive response 😆 but thanks for the reply. Lol!
Thanks for the videos. I’m getting ready to grind chicken quarters for my 20 lb Lab Puppy, I would not grind raw pork as I thought it carried parasites? What additives do you put in the grinder with the chicken?
Did you buy the $459 grinder or the $759 one love your video I’m getting my dog on the same thing
I was about buying $459 one according to the link she had on the previous video, then I found this updated video which liked to $759. Actually, I found her answer below and said either one works.
can u advise which grinder u use
hello there. thanks for your great video. question on the meat grinder you use. there are different HP ones. on the other video the grinder link takes you to a 750 watts grinder. just want to make sure I invest in one that can do the job of grinding the bones. thank you
How did you figure out the amount of each “ingredient” to give them?
I have a 6 month old puppy I want to start on raw and I seem to have stumbled upon a calculator that provides the percentages of the types of food that he’s going to need to stay balanced but it’s still slightly confusing for me 😭 I’ll be buying most if not all of what you’ve bought for them and slowly start changing and adding as he grows so thank you for showing everything in detail! It was super informative!
What kind of grinder do you use?
Thanks for sharing, we tried the raw food diet on our dogs and it really messed up their movements and being inside dogs that didn't go well. New to your channel and look forward to watching more.
Yeah that's understandable. There's definitely a transition period where their bodies have to get used to it. My dog had the runs for a couple days at the beginning but after that it's smooth sailing
It's always best to feed a higher bone percentage and only one protein when transitioning.
Thanks
We do t have a GFS near us. How do I find a similar kind of place to get chicken that cheap? Any other places you know of?
My dog will not eat a vegetable at all. I definitely have to grind it within his food. And he’s allergic to chicken 🤦🏾♀️ This is good information!
