Model Khoudia Diop Speaks Out Against Skin Bleaching

  • When Khoudia Diop was younger, she was made to feel ashamed of her dark skin. Now the Senegalese model is using her success to spread the word about the risks of skin bleaching. The World Health Organization says that a quarter of Senegalese women use skin-bleaching products regularly. The products, even those claiming to have so-called "natural" components, can contain mercury, hydroquinone or caustic agents like sodium hydroxide. These are dangerous ingredients that can cause cancer and are potentially disfiguring. Khoudia Diop wants to show women that beauty comes in all colors.

When you bleach your skin, you confirm to yourself that you were not beautiful. Ignore the bullies. Khoudia seems like a smart woman to know this.

Why does anyone want to change their skin colour? I can understand if you suffer from vitiligo, that has to be a confidence dropper but if you're a single colour I don't see why you'd want to. Khoudia has a really deep rich colour, absolutely gorgeous.

You are so so beautiful inside and out. I see many advertising for skin whitner products in Chinese commercial sites, Asian women also think being white makes you better well it has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with your heart ❤
The natzies thought that being blond with blue eyes makes you a superman, thats how the called themselves, but if you feel good about yourself that's what's matters the most.

As a Gen Z who has been exposed to a lot of different cultures, and as an avid feminist, LGBTQ+ right advocate, and anti-racist, I love to find other people who share my passion of openly opposing these terrible things happening. Thank you, Khoudia Diop, for being yourself and knowing that you, like every other woman, are beautiful without any changes.

Culture really varies. I'm a white woman. I have heard that their is discrimination within the black culture based on skin tone. I think this is so odd. White people don't seem to do that. Some white people like a tan and some don't (alabaster). I personally liked the look of a darker toned black person with natural hair. Everyone seems to want to change how they look though. That is universal I think. I wish we weren't that way. No one seems to appreciate their own beauty as much as they do other's.

This young girl, motivated in part by her sister, speaks with an intelligence few her age possess. Her being a model
only further substantiates her choice to be who she is. The ability to see past the insecurities of so many others will
fuel success in her relationships, how she lives her life and how she might mother her own children. Though unfortunate
on its face, her mother leaving was very likely a blessing in her daughters becoming as aware as they sound to be.

At the end of the day its a choice let's be honest. No force is being used. Black white red yellow brown. We are who we are. If an individual wants to change that or a modeling agency wants you to do it to join loke Tyra Banks. Then its there choice to say yes. I would not do something like that to fit in and look down on those who would what is the price of your integrity. And individuality.

This topic must be digged down properly, understanding the culture of Africa, Asia and Middle East (the most bleaching parts of the world /people). Speaking about the real consequences people face, especially women if are not fitting into the strict parameters of their communities/families/nations. I can say that for people, especially women, from those communities from Asia, Africa and Middle East having or achieving a lighter skintone has a similar value in terms of life chances as getting a degree or being born rich has in the rest of the world. We must respect, support and dig deeper down this practice and real reasons behind. We must study the countries /communities /cultures, understand... Otherwise we are still just whiter people judging the "oddities" of darker people and this just hurts more and deepen the distance.
