Great review Dan. It's nice for someone like you to actually drive it properly to truly understand that the new Swift Sport is actually a very good car to drive. Many other reviewers seem to give it a hard time without actually driving it anywhere near the limits. The car really does begin to shine the harder you drive it. I'm not sure what's going on with your particular test cars brakes. My 2018 car has great progressive brakes. I'm wondering whether that is a trait of the hybrid model - or perhaps the brakes need re-bleeding on the test car. Before my 2018 Sport, I had a 2016 car (normally aspirated). I had some work done on the rear brakes because of a recall. The brakes were not bled properly and had a longer travel after the visit. I ended up re-bleeding the brakes myself to get the pedal back to where it was before. Just a thought. Anyway, I've been enjoying the non-hybrid turbo variant since 2018. I find it is a very capable car when driven hard. Sliding around roundabouts has never been so much fun. Totally agree with your assessment of the Swift Sport's handling. It's spot on in my opinion. Thanks!
I have a soft spot for the Suzuki Swift also. I love it. Truth be told I owned the standard Swift 4 years and only just sold it this year. Its a Great car!
It may fall a bit short against the class best, but it is bound to be more reliable in the long term. Many people love to drive it due to its Mini like upright windscreen that really gives great visibility.
Good review (almost poised to buy one) and I have watched a lot of reviews lately but I can't be the only one that groans whenever a review mentions the scratchy plastic. Who fondles the plastic dash in any car when you buy one but every reviewer on most cars always mentions it!
Agreed, there's no such thing as 'scratchy plastic'. Yes - you can scratch the plastic with your finger nails. But Suzuki don't advertise the car with 'scratchy plastics'. LOL. Thing is ALL cars have plastic in them. Even the 'soft touch' or rubberised ones are STILL plastic. Personally, I think it's very odd when car reviewers start touching the dash board like that. I NEVER touch my dash board unless I'm dusting it! LOL.
Its nice to see a positive review on this car as comparing to the likes of a Fiesta ST shouldn't be so. I like the old Swift Sport but this new one is much more friendlier and comfortable and being 6ft4" I could never fit in the old one... Hope to swap my wife's current 2014 Toyota Yaris for one soon...
Brief and interesting review. While it may fall short in power against the class best, it is has an outstanding driving position thanks to the mini like upright windscreen and should be far more reliable than the fiesta which has been black listed in the usa for appalling reliability.
Some dealers appear to be selling this for about £3,000 off the list price for brand new examples, to £3,500 off for mildly-used demonstrators. If that's not enough, examples of the pre-hybrid model can be found for as low as £12,000 on AutoTrader, then again you can shave another few thousand off yet again for a decent example of the NA model.
I don't like the looks of the fiesta: back to vertical, windcsreen to steeply raked, front looks like an old 90s ford escort with a dome shaped bonnet. Swift looks funky and practical.
I think all small cars these days are way overpriced. You emphasise that this car cost over 21k. When you factor in the kit you get for the money, and Suzuki reliability, it seems a relative bargain compared to the Polo/CLIO/208 equivalent. The Ford Fiesta is great to drive but ecoboost engines are renowned for being troublesome and suffer from long term reliability issues plus the stupid cambelt in oil is supposed to be changed every 10 years (if the car lasts that long) and when you replace them they cost a fortune. The Fiesta is OK if you buy new and keep for a couple of years, but long term the Swift is the better bet.
Basicly it has more options than the ST and it looks better and is tbh faster on curves..And yet some lunatics love that early 2000s hideous small SUV looking Fiesta ...4heads Drove both and the siwft has something else (yeah many more options than stock ST too) PS: Oh and fiy with a stage 1 repro at 350euros you up to 180PS wich is enough to almost kill any competition on road Swift : 21k stock with all options + stage1 350 > around 22k > Insane look, not many on roads wich is great Ford : 28k to get all options (LED beam, rear cam ect like the Swift..) > Average Ford look hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Found this funny clip too with an M3 e46 : th-cam.com/video/gy9SlwaapLo/w-d-xo.html

You obviously never driven an ST of the current generation or you did but blindfolded. The Swift Sport is a good car but not even close to the ST. It is lighter than the Fiesta, everything else is a much worse car. 9.1 secs to 62mph? LUL, even a 1.0 TSI Seat Ibiza is faster than that. "Faster on curves", where is the limited slip diff? The ST has a chassis and a suspension setup the Swift could only dream of. Talking about equipment, Ford has FULL LED lights, unlike those 20 year old looking halogen main beam bulbs that the Swift has. Much more premium materials inside in the ST and true Recaro seats. Also, looks are subjective but the Swift to me looks like an ugly child's toy. Saying it has an "insane look" is hilarious. Not according to Fahr Doch. A German automotive site. They said the ST struggled to stay with the Swift Sport up a damp mountain pass. The ST's extra 200+ kg of weight meant that it was all over the road trying to keep up with the Swift Sport. Just saying.
do not call it a hot hatch !!! it’s sloooooooow !!! Hot hatch acceleration needs to be less than 7s to 62 by today standards. Mini Cooper hatch acceleration is 7.9s to 62 m/h and it’s still not a hot hatch
That's one dimensional thinking. To call it not a hot hatch purely based on engine power output or straight-line numbers is missing the point. The Swift Sport happens to be very fast down any tight and twisty back road. The suspension is very compliant, the chassis is very light. It's a very capable cornering machine that can put many more powerful cars to shame. That low weight gives it an agility not matched by heavier cars. It's ability to carry speed down the worst of condition 'B' road certainly earns it hot-hatch credentials. The Swift Sport can slide around roundabouts all day long without putting you backwards through the nearest hedge. It's an astonishing little car, and with offers below £19k still available for this new version. I think it's worth the money too.
@@MrZekToR Very true, a real drivers car, lots of cars might beat the 0-60 time but can they keep up on a twisty B road ? in the late 1960`s early 70`s I had a Mini Cooper S rally car which was more fun to drive in narrow lanes than anything, the 2020 Swift is right up there with it for sure and comfortable and reliable too, we have just bought a four month old demonstrator with 94 miles recorded for £16K , with all the toys as standard it`s incredible value for money, just wish I could transport it back to my road rally days !!

Agree, uncle Henry doesn't like his cars to last too long lol🙂
Suzuki should of made a nice and punchy 180 to 220 bhp engine and undercut the fiesta on price by 3k to 5k then maybe people would sit up and listen.
But then it'd probably be just as heavy as the fiesta. It's about 250kg lighter as is!

why is it necessary to Nerf the car like that just because of the hybrid system it's such a shame !!
It's the modern nightmare. Performance and character replaced by unwanted tech and a higher price.

do not call it a hot hatch !!! it’s sloooooooow !!!
@@rogerjordan3143 just a stage one remap and ram air induction kit, £450. And 180 bhp. That’s more like it….
