I am really sorry for the damage around your Cabin , and I am very thankful that you , your Cabin and truck are okay. You'll get through this Slim. Wishing you all the very best and Merry Christmas to you.
I cant believe you did that Slim! (going out in the storm) Glad you are OK. It has to be a great feeling to have your own power when storms like this hit. Sorry about the mess of trees, but you are ok, and that is what counts. Merry Christmas to you and to all of you watching. 🎄🌟
Slim, a lot of your videos show Mother Nature's nice side, with pretty flowers and butterflies. This is her flip side, where she uses wind and freezing rain to pare back the trees. Never nice to go through and to clean up after, but good once it's done. Glad that you and the cabin are safe.
Slim, we all appreciate your passion in producing these videos, but there is a line of calculated risks that needs to be maintained. The view from inside the cabin thru the window gave a rather accurate evaluation of the weather. Your preparedness of having being "grid free if necessary" definitely paid off and will undoubtedly pay off in the future. Please stay safe and have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
I feel bad for you Slim, and am looking forward to watching you pull out of this. You have ample outdoor wood (you don’t burn cedar in a fireplace) and the poplars will heat your cabin for ages to come.
I’m really sorry about your trees Slim. Losing trees is very emotional for me, I get very attached to them. I’m glad your cabin and truck are okay. That was some storm!
Slim, you have HD cameras and lights! Film from the inside, my friend! It's a blessing that the trees all fell away. You can always grow new ones! Glad you and the cabin are safe.
That wind made the poncho more of a suggestion of rain gear than actual rain gear. I like that you’re looking ahead to the firewood and the furniture possibilities from the fallen trees.
Wow, that's some intense weather! Glad to see the cabin holding up against the storm. Mother Nature can be relentless, but so is the resilience of SlimPotatoHead's structures!
I feel for you Slim, sincerely. All those beautiful fallen trees, it broke my heart too. We can see how much of a nature lover you are. But it’s as you said: it could have been much worse, and we are glad you are okay despite all this.
We feel your pain. We are in NB , on Deer Island , we're caught in that storm too. We lost power and just had it restored last night. We saw the kindness of neighbors who helped us with a bigger generator, hot food , supplies and opened their homes to us. We thought we were prepared but you can never really prepare for a major storm like this. Trees came down but we had none fortunately hit the house. We are waking this morning to full heat and running water and THAT'S our Christmas gift. I hope you get powerlines fixed soon and stay safe ! Merry Christmas !!
Prayers 🙏 from Missouri. We get tornados all the time ... but those ocean 🌊 storms are quite violent 😮. My hope is the recovery is quick 🙏 and inexpensive
GEE, y’all…THAT’S what it’s like HERE after our hurricanes…Y’know, no electricity, etc. (Imust say, it’s WARM here when hurricanes “hit”… BE CAREFUL, Slim…)
Sad to see all the trees that are down - but roaming outside under the trees in that wind - This is the first time I have ever questioned your sanity…… good thing you moved the truck! Good luck to you clearing it out. Be well Slim! We all wish you the best!
WOW! You had us on the edge of our seats! Think you went above and beyond with your outdoor videos, but thanks and glad you and your adorable cabin are safe! It was wild to hear you mention our names on this video! Dougs eyes bugged out when he heard our names mentioned! Thanks again Slim! See you in the next adventure! Doug and Barb
I'm glad you are okay Slim. This reminds me of the time I was run out of the high Sierra mountains because of super high winds. Afterward, the landscape like just like yours. Many very large trees were uprooted. One fell right in our camping spot after we pulled out. Look on the bright side. Now you are going to have plenty of firewood for years to come. I can't wait to see what you make out of the fallen Cedar tree.
Slim, I'm glad your cabin survived those storms and its too bad you lost that many trees. One of my good friends lost his Sierra mountain cabin and almost all the trees in that area of the forest in the most recent California wildfires. He and his wife owned it only one month! He says he's going to rebuild. I asked him If he would be better off taking the insurance money and finding another cabin that has mature Pine trees because you're 68 and your trees won't grow back in your lifetime. He said the grand kids will see them come back.
So sorry for the destruction at your cabin … while the trees were blown down your little cabin was strong and it weathered the storm Glad you’re safe Your calmness and upbeat attitude will get you through Thank you for sharing
Hi Slim wow quite a storm so glad you came through OK, wonderful the cabin wasn't damaged it was very windy, beautiful sunset, yes it's sad you lost your trees but thank God you still have your life, your cabin and your truck, stay safe
Words can't express how sad I feel about those beautiful 'Trees'. And how ironic it is that you visited Joyce Kilmer memorial forest just last spring. I'm thankful you and the cabin made it safely through the storm.❤
Glad you came out of the storm unscathed. One of natures way of pruning and replenishing. You still have a beautiful cottage with a beautiful view. Live long and prosper. Namaste. Jay and family.
Slim, please take good care of you next time a new big storm comes along…safety first, no need to record anything while the storm is passing 🙏🏻. I really appreciate what you did.
Im in north Florida. My house is only 800 square feet and i am surrounded by 100 ft pines and oak trees. Trust me, nothing is scarier during storms and hurricanes than the sound of the wind, branches hitting the house and trees coming down. Im petrfiied every time and so glad when the storms have passed and the sun comes up. Love your cabin and the wood burning stove. Be safe.
Years ago I moved from Southern California to Whidbey Island Washington and they had a huge wind storm. Power was out for several days and it snowed. Huge tree fell across the driveway and we were stuck for a week. Quite an introduction to the Northwest. I’ve also been in a category 4 hurricane. So, I feel you. It can be scary when the winds are howling. I feel your pain.
You're a trooper, going out into that storm to show us what it's like. Well done on capturing the sideways rain on camera, but I'm glad you didn't get clobbered or speared by falling trees and branches, and also that your cabin and truck made it through both storms OK. Sorry for the loss of loved trees, especially those beautiful cedars.
Well, the bright side is you and the cabin are safe. Plus you have lots of opportunities for content, even if it isn't what you planned. I like it all and look forward to following along with the cleanup and your plans for the materials you salvage from it!
Wow...quite the storms....as usual, you always stay positive, and look at the bright side....at least there was no damage to the cabin or truck! Glad you're well. Good luck with the clean up !
I know you are devastated by the loss of those beautiful trees. It very sad to loose them but I am very grateful that the way they fell saved the cabin and your truck which would have been far worse. Best of luck with clean up. So happy you are ok.
Absolutely love the wood shingles and metal roof. Looks like your cabin fared well in the gale winds. Good on you! When it comes to nature, you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit. Well done, Slim. A good location for a well prepared cabin. I absolutely love watching a storm, watched two cat-2 hurricanes blow over our little RV on Nueces Bay, Portland, Texas. Sitting on the Little River, in East Tennessee, now, a beautiful day.
The only thing that really matters, Slim, is that you're okay. Everything else is secondary. Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
This reminds me of a night when there was a huge storm in my off grid cabin in the Chaleur Bay area. I was all cozy with my dog, sitting and cooking on the wood stove as I always did. Granted, I was happy a tree didn't hit my cabin. When all was said and done, I took a walk on the mountain to socialize and see how our mountain fared. I found out that everyone that wasn't off grid, had no power. That storm put into perspective the low stress environment I had created for myself.
Sorry about the cedars, Slim. 😢. But I also know that you’ll find moments to breathe and count your blessings. That’s one of the things I dearly miss about living in the country. You quickly discover the good neighbors who know how to pick up the pieces. I suspect you’ll discover some smart and strong folk in New Brunswick. You all will be in my thoughts. Keep us updated as best you can.
I’m so glad you survived your storm! Time for you to buy a gas chain saw, lol! I look at storms as mother natures way of cleaning her house even though it makes us very nervous! I can’t wait to see ya traveling again but looks to me you’ll be very busy for now! Stay safe Slim!!
WE love your videos. I sat and cried at the loss of those lovely trees. Next winter or the winter after that, you have been provided wood for heat if you look on the positive side. Stay safe dear man. Keep the videos coming.
Well you know Slim all your building skills held up really well. That was a pretty bad blow. I've survived a few storms like that over the years. You came through that pretty well. You ,the cabin and truck were the most important things. It's still a little peace of heaven even with some of the trees missing. 🙏❤️✌️☕
Wow, what an adventure Slim! I was wondering if you had enough food after being trapped at the cabin? So glad the cabin survived. Appreciate the update. Peace be with you
On the bright side, you will have plenty of wood to burn to stay warm. And, that one lone birch tree survived on the driveway. Not to mention, not one tree struck the cabin. Count your blessings. Plus, you never know, some good will come of those trees falling in the future. Stay safe, slim.
You are indeed blessed because both you and your cabin survived and that’s definitely a good thing. That was quite a storm you had to deal with Slim and I know storms because I live in Louisiana and have seen quite a few. Mother Nature is no easy lady to deal with. However, because you have wonderful survival skills you will have things under control in no time. Take care and be safe up there. 😮😮
I grew up in Illinois. Every spring was tornado season. I remember the "angry skies" every year with it's warnings & watches telling us to seek shelter. I don't miss it. Be safe.
Not sure how old the original cabin was but you can feel some small comfort that it’s lasted through other storms over the years. You can actually learn a lot from being in a disaster like this - info that is very helpful in preparing for the next one. Maybe you already knew where to park your truck? Hopefully no more storms like this one this season!
I am glad to see that you got through that well. Shame about the trees coming down, but great that they didn't do any real damage. They should give plenty of firewood for next year. After a storm like that, take a close look at the other trees near your cabin for damaged limbs or signs of cracks in the trunks. They might have been weaken enough to be a problem in a future storm. Best of luck, and Merry Christmas!
Whew, thankfully you made it out alive. Your preparedness certainly paid off big time. And you were so fortunate not to have any of those trees land on you, the truck or the cabin. Take care.
One doesn't truly appreciate how frightening it is to be in strong winds like that until actually being in it and there's nowhere to escape. I've been in hurricanes and haboobs, and you just pray nothing is going to fall on you and the roof won't blow away.
i'm from Oklahoma and i live under huge trees.. Oaks and Birch and all types. I have watched tornados go by and the wind can get a little unnerving but the only time i have been afraid was in an ice storm with no wind at all. It iced for about 24 hours or more and everything was fine. The next morning you just started hearing cracks from all over the neighborhood at about the same time. It was the sounds of limbs and trees falling all at once and no where was safe lol you could feel the limbs shake the floor when they fell.. I live on a corner lot and i had limb debris over 6 feet high stacked completely around my yard during clean up. Looked like some kinda old west fort lol
Glad to see you are safe slim. Those 2 storms were intense. Looking forward to seeing the furniture that you make with that cedar and maybe a gardening video in the spring as you plant a few trees
You have completely transformed your little cabin from what it was when you first showed it to us. You will get this mess cleaned up little by little. Just keep plugging away at it and yes be thankful none of them fell on your wonderful little cabin. ☀️
My dad used to say, "Yeah, it's all fun until somebody gets hurt..."🙄 Please be careful out there! Living in the woods, I can tell you those small branches carry a deadly blow. Trees topple with no notice and you don't hear it in storms like that 😮 Edit: My goodness, you are blessed! I'm in AZ from NY. Coming home to that would do me in. Hopefully my Maple and Beech stay strong. You're in my thoughts. Be safe. 🙏👍
Sad about the trees, Slim, but glad you were safe and the house was untouched. Looks like the van was offsite too which would have alleviated some stress. Good neighbours are a gift.
I'm sorry about your property. I'm glad you are alright, and your cabin is unharmed too. For what it's worth, I've loved every second of your cabin videos. Thank you.
I am thankful you and your neighbors are ok. I’m so sorry you and the critters that you lost quite a few of your beautiful trees. Lots of work ahead indeed. Stay safe and wishing you a better new year.
Slim, I really enjoy your videos. I’ve watched many. I must say that when I saw the first video about the cabin I was skeptical, to say the least. It seemed so rough I first felt you were only showing it to make your ultimate choice look better! 😄 I now heartily admit that you have taken a very rough project and transformed it into a very nice little nest! It really has come a long way. I know you must be proud of what you have accomplished, and rightfully so! Please keep the great videos coming!
Wow Slim it is amazing how all those trees fell but did not damage the cabin or your truck thank goodness you are okay as well. Take care. Happy Holidays
Wow, this episode gave me PTSD, 5 years ago a 3 foot diameter redwood fell in a big storm just 8 feet from my bed! I had just jumped up at the sound of a howling wind and was across the room as it crashed down! it just touched one corner of my roof and an electric cable kept it suspended above the attached greenhouse! The tree service sent a 10 man crew and then 4 monster PG&E trucks and a 12 man crew restored the power. Afterwards the foreman said that if it wasn't an emergency repair the bill would have been $12,000~15,000 to fix! Gracias a Dios, you made it through my friend... X-mas Cheer to you.
Happy to see your cabin is still in tact Slim, it could have been a lot worse. You now have years of firewood as well as some choice lumber for furniture and other projects as you said. Once you get your chainsaw I suggest a mill attachment capable of processing the cedar and larger pines into dimensional size lumber to build your addition and a firewood/truck or trailer shelter, you're going to need it. These storms have become an opportunity to enrich your cabin experience naturally and provide you with a source to heat your cabin(along with some awesome content) for many years to come. I know you want to get on the road but it will be waiting for you after everything is all cleaned up.
So glad you and the cabin came through the storms safe and unharmed.. Lots of firewood now and your trees were so beautiful. Hope the clean up goes well.
Horrible storms! You were so blessed, having no damage to your cabin or truck. This was such a cool video to watch. I could feel the storm. Take care and Merry Christmas Slim!
Good morning Slim. Glad there wasn't any damage to your cabin, vehicle or you! Reminded me of an incident in our cottage(expanded cabin) when I was a little kid. One tree got uprooted and fell into a 2nd tree. If not for the 2nd tree, the cottage would have been hit. As soon as my dad saw the leaning tree, he told us we're all leaving right now. Merry Christmas.
It’s a little windy when you recorded this footage. It will be a great test of the new roof and shingles that you installed. Stay safe in all kinds of weather, including those bright and sunny days. While we don’t like loosing healthy trees, but nature made the decision to get rid of them. The positive is that it did not hit the cabin and you now have firewood.
So very glad you and the cabin (and the Slimarado) weathered the storm unscathed! Very sad for the loss of your trees! Happy Holidays and stay positive!
WOW - I can only imagine that the original cabin would be a pile of rubble by now, yet your hard work provided you a warm, cozy but yes, the loss of those trees is heartbreaking. Funny, I was recently wondering about your insurance on this 'new and improved' cabin. You certainly have evidence of the improvements. Good point about a gas fired chain saw! But mostly, we're just glad you're safe.
We are south of you by several hundred miles in Connecticut. Your first storm passed by offshore from us but the second one hit us good. Trees and power lines down everywhere. Some folks are still w/o power today, three days later. Thanks for sharing your life, as always. Really love your content.
Wow Slim that was a terrible storm. I feared your cabin would be hit. You’re a very lucky man! Now the clean up, hopefully you will get help from your neighbors 🙏🏻
I’ve lived over 40 years in Minnesota, been through 50 below zero, 80 mph winds, tornadoes, black ice, freezing anything you can think of. But going through HURRICANE IAN in south western Florida was the most terrifying experience I’ve lived through. A CAT5 hurricane with 16 foot storm surge where we lived ( FL is FLAT) Great trees collapsing, ocean waves washing away whole neighborhoods…nothing compares.
Sorry to see such a mess to clean up and the delay in travel to warmer climate. The multitude of fallen trees however is a fortunate outcome for you and the cabin. Thanksgiving comes late, may the rest of the winter be a happy / peaceful holiday.
I was scared when you feel, thought you were going into that water. I can swim in the ocean, have for 5 decades but I got nervous when I thought you were going to slide in.I hope you aren't too sore from slipping... God bless you friend!
I love being outside in a storm, but I do understand how dangerous and fierce they can be. Thanks for the exciting video, SP….and hope all is cleaned up quickly. We have had to clean up a lot of oaks and pine around our cabin which were potentially dangerous. Some of them don’t have very deep roots. Merry Christmas, happy new year and I will repeat: you are my number one TH-camr! 😀
Glad you and the cabin are intact! So sorry about those majestic trees. After a lot of work you should be set for firewood. Nature has her own ideas about housekeeping and renovation. It isn’t for us to wonder why, but we do. I’m looking forward to all this video content that has literally fallen in your lap! Best Wishes for the new year!
Hey Slim, So sorry for the loss of trees that you will miss. I am happy none fell on your cabin or truck. Take your time to clean up that huge job that you have in front of you, If I lived close, I would offer you my help to come clean up those trees. I live in southern California, too far away. Take care, Slim.
Quite a storm! Thank goodness you had shelter and supplies. Reminded me of Hurricane Fiona you experienced in your trailer. All those downed trees lead to future firewood. Hope you and your neighbors have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Slim!
I feel for you, seeing so many trees down is hard. With all the enjoyment you’ve given us over the years there’s many of us that would love to help you clean up the mess. Unfortunately we live many miles away.
Wow slim. Glad you and your cabin are ok. I live in southern New Hampshire and we did have a lot of wind, rain and flooding (in the White Mountains) but nothing like New Brunswick. I do live in a highly wooded area and we also have a generator (just in case). Around 10 years ago we lost our electricity for two weeks due to the power lines being ripped off of our house. Thanks to an emergency crew from Canada it was temporarily restored until a final fix could be made by our local electricity provider. We enjoy your videos. Stay safe, neighbor to the north.

Sorry to see the damage, by next winter, you'll have plenty of firewood. Save some of the larger sections of that cedar.... you can make boards of it, or something to enhance the cabin.
Glad you're okay, that the cabin survived, and so did the truck. I know you hate to lose your gorgeous forest but as always you're up for the challenge so I know you'll be okay. Hang in there and be safe Slim. Could have been a lot worse, so the powers were looking after you. Sending good vibes your way. Blessings too if they count for you. 👍
Definitely a couple of nasty storms. Maybe it was just time for the new growth to come up. May be a good time to think about planting some different types of trees so they can in time help to support those beautiful evergreens. Thank goodness all the main things were spared any damage. Glad you and your home/truck are safe. Remember to appreciate the time it takes to clean it up. God has a plan. Peace, Love and Freedom 🇺🇲
Well, I can tell you listening to those horrific winds. I’m a little nervous, so be careful around the windows in case something comes flying through that would be awful but I don’t wanna see that cabin get hurt. It’s beautiful and I love it.
You have an opportunity at the cabin you didn't expect to have. it's time for Slim Potatohead to add trees to his landscape to leave behind something for many others to enjoy far into the future.
Well Slim, as you said, it could have been worst, you, the cabin and truck are ok and yes the land will restore it self, it's Gods way with nature. We are only here to observe and enjoy what is and was, to be grateful for what we have and thank the Lord for getting us through no matter the difficulties..Amen.
Happy holidays Slim, I wish you all the best in the world, good health to you, your family and all those you care about! May the new year that's to come bring you good fortune and safe roads! ❤🎉🥂🍻
I,m just rememberkng when you first gave us a tour of the cabin.... It's come SO far. Much tighter and more cozy than back then. Glad those trees didn't fall on YOU... too close for comfort! Wise choice about letting the fire go out. Look at it this way... for every tree that fell NEAR the cabin .. that is one less you need to worry about in the future. 👍 🌲
Yaa that was one hell of a storm. I love storms like that long as no one gets injured. Glad you didn't have a tree fall on looks like the trees spared the cabin, awesome👍🏼 Lots of cleanup but extra wood for the winter. Thank you for sharing. Be safe slim
Would be worth it to take some extra time and also take down some of those dead standing trees while you're at it, and the larger dead branches in the area of the cabin. Saw a couple of them during your walkabout. They might be further back from the cabin but if they fall the wrong way they could send another tree towards you. Stay safe - and next time please stay inside til the storm subsides. You're out there alone, and if a big branch or worse comes down and hits you, you might be without help for a long time.
So happy that YOU are okay. We recently had to have some trees removed near our house due to potential storm damage. To get to them, a wonderful hemlock had to be removed as well as a few more. So sad to loose the glorious trees. Like you said, some of these will have a second life in your cabin. Wishing you well Katy
Yep this storm was bad , I am just the other side and got all this wind here too, it is a good ideia have a little clearing around your house and car parking for safety. I hope see many more videos about the cabin they are great.
So sorry to see so many of you trees down due to the storm , i didn't know the storm was so bad in your area , the second time around . You have a lot of work ahead of you for sure !!
@@SlimPotatohead sounds good to me , hope all is well . My son and I are doing some winter camping next week at Hancock camp ground hope it’s not too washed out

My thoughts exactly. Slim is no match for the power of even one big limb coming down on him. I was cringing trying to watch.
I was trying not to envision an impaled Slim, after my 50 yrs of nursing, some in trauma areas... please Slim, be safe
Exactly, and it doesn't even take a big limb, I've seen one about an inch punch a hole in a wood board (maybe 3/8" thick?) when it landed right on the end, like a spear dropped straight down. @@karenebarker9244

Agreed, one of those branches come down and hit ya it won’t be good. I usually wear a chainsaw helmet when out there if I need to be

Slim, you are now SET for firewood through the next two years.

Glad you’re safe
Your calmness and upbeat attitude will get you through
Thank you for sharing
Be safe.
Oh my goodness Slim! This brings tears to my eyes. Glad you are safe and the cabin didn't get damaged.
A good day to stay inside. Too much can happen around dead trees in a high wind. I live in Florida and we have a lot of respect for storms. Stay safe.
4:39 very dangerous going out in that storm and standing under the trees. 😨 Glad you are okay! 🕊🙏
What a storm! Just goes to show how sound and sturdy your cabin is! Hope you can have some snow adventures as well!
Take care.
Incredible video Slim. I’m so sorry about all the beautiful trees that fell. So happy you and your cabin and truck made it through unscathed.
Wow! The losses in trees is incredible! I’m so sorry but you still have the cabin and your life - and furniture! Stay safe
One doesn't truly appreciate how frightening it is to be in strong winds like that until actually being in it and there's nowhere to escape. I've been in hurricanes and haboobs, and you just pray nothing is going to fall on you and the roof won't blow away.
its hard to comprehend the unthinkable
i'm from Oklahoma and i live under huge trees..
My dad used to say, "Yeah, it's all fun until somebody gets hurt..."🙄
Please be careful out there! Living in the woods, I can tell you those small branches carry a deadly blow. Trees topple with no notice and you don't hear it in storms like that 😮
Edit: My goodness, you are blessed! I'm in AZ from NY. Coming home to that would do me in. Hopefully my Maple and Beech stay strong. You're in my thoughts. Be safe. 🙏👍
Be safe we love ur camping we love the one storm u went through in the chamber Bonnie calera al
I now heartily admit that you have taken a very rough project and transformed it into a very nice little nest!
I just found your videos! I enjoyed them! Please be safe!
It’s sad but the important thing is that you are safe & your cabin is too…keeping you in my prayers ❤
You are alive, your cabin is ok, your truck is fine you have an abundance of fire wood you are blessed. 😊Happy Trails!😊😊😊
Glad you are safe and at least warm. Hugs and Prayers for you. I'm sorry you lost so many of your beautiful trees.
I love your positivity in a bad situation, no personal injury and lessons learned.
Hey Slim,
So sorry for the loss of trees that you will miss.
Nothing short of a miracle! So glad that you, your truck and cabin are ok!
So sorry and lots of prayers. Glad you and cabin are OK.
Been thru mucho Hurricanes, Typhoons, Blizzards, Battles, etc.... Once A Beautiful Blonde Woman Sought Shelter From The Storm While The Lights Flickered..... Stay Strong You Can Never Tell What The Storm Will Bring 🙏🏻
Glad you didn't have a tree fall on looks like the trees spared the cabin, awesome👍🏼
Lots of cleanup but extra wood for the winter.
Thank you for sharing.
Be safe slim
Mother Nature was very kind to you . Cleaned what she thought needed cleaned and was nice enough to not let any fall on cabin , truck or you.
Wishing you well
Katy
Yep this storm was bad , I am just the other side and got all this wind here too, it is a good ideia have a little clearing around your house and car parking for safety. I hope see many more videos about the cabin they are great.
So sorry to see so many of you trees down due to the storm , i didn't know the storm was so bad in your area , the second time around . You have a lot of work ahead of you for sure !!
Slim thank you for always delivering a great video glad everything survived. And we appreciate the weekly video definitely look forward to them !!!!
For the record, I release videos when they are finished. That is sometimes in a week, but others like this one take longer. Thanks! SP
@@SlimPotatohead sounds good to me , hope all is well . My son and I are doing some winter camping next week at Hancock camp ground hope it’s not too washed out
So sorry you lost all those beautiful trees, Slim. Glad you and your cabin and truck are all right.
