I lived on Washtenaw just south of the Church. I didn't know there was a stop sign there now. Bally corp was across the street on the left. The steel bridge is gone, Riverview is gone, The Western av. bridge is gone. Nice seeing the area again. Thanks for the ride.
Thank you for putting these videos together and archivivng Chicago! I grew up at Belmont & Central in the 60s & 70's. Interesting to see what the old neighborhood looks like today. I was born at Grand and Ashland. I've just watched your Ashland, Western & Belmont videos. They're great!
18:42 - cream colored brick apt building on the left - lived on the second floor until I was 3yrs old - at that time, building was owned by my Uncle and Great-grandfather.
First, thanks for the video. I also remember the bridge over Belmont, I went to Riverview a lot when I was younger. I moved from the Bemont and Austin area in the mid 70's, and then out of state in 1985. There is lots of things I miss about Chicago, road work is not one of them. Next video is Diversey, boy things have changed.
belmont isnt necassarily a "suburb street", you just chose to drive on the suburban portion. east of cumberland, then harlem a good chunk of it goes through the city.
FYI for people reading the description. Belmont is very much a Chicago street, not a west suburb street. Yes it it extends to the burbs, but it goes from the western border of Chicago all the way to Lake Shore Drive in the city.
