  • A complete Super Circus live television show from New York, with Jerry Colona as the Ringmaster. The show includes Sandy Wirth burning baton twirling, bicycle act The Frelanis, Clown act Chester Bobo Barnett with a little car and cute dogs, acrobatic comedian Walter Dare Wahl & Emmet Oldfield, a roller skating couple with a fabulous act, but I can't understand their name when it is announced, and beautiful trapeze artist Greta Frisk. The Lone Ranger is the guest star, with a special message for the boys and girls out in television land, as well as some gun tricks for everyone. Commercials are for Chunky chocolate and Lester Morris for the Roto-Broil "400". Mastered from 16mm b-w film.

That's my good friend's parents doing the skating routine a few years before he was born - you have NO IDEA how happy he was upon seeing this - they were billed as " The Skating Regals" and from all I've heard they were dynamite! Both are still alive today (10-25-22) and living in New Jersey!

Please let Mrs. Regal know that she was a very beautiful woman when this performance by she and her husband was broadcast and kinescoped. Please tell her that I want to thank her and her husband for all the hard work that they have done to entertain the public for so many years. This kinescoped episode of "Super Circus" will provide entertainment by The Skating Regals, and the other performers who worked on this episode of the show, for future generations to enjoy. Thank you, Mrs. Regal. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

VERY RARE kinescope of Colonna fronting "SUPER CIRCUS" [Sundays, 5-6pm(et)] during its final season from New York {Claude Kirchner, Mary Hartline, and the original cast and crew from Chicago were "let go" following the 1954-'55 season}.

Clayton Moore was a native of Chicago, and for a time was a real-life circus acrobat. He must have felt at home doing Super Circus. Both Super Circus and The Lone Rnger were ABC-TV programs.

Mort Marshall is "Chunky Charlie". A few years later, he was the voice of the "Trix Rabbit" in their commericials.

Martin Stone and Eddie Kean had previously been associated with "HOWDY DOODY".

By the way, when "SUPER CIRCUS" was cancelled in June 1956, the *series* wasn't. Producer Martin Stone brought it back the following fall (with most of the same production crew and Ralph Hermann's circus band) as a Thursday night show [following "THE LONE RANGER"], "CIRCUS TIME". Paul Winchell became the "Ringmaster" {with his dummies Jerry and Knucklehead supporting him}, This time, the format was more of a variety show, with musical performers among the circus acts showcased, and new sponsors (Hartz Mountain, Remco, Bauer & Black, Faultless Starch [Bon Ami], and others). That ended in June 1957.

So, the "amazing new" Ronco Rotisserie was just a re-hash of a 1950s Roto-Broil 400.

Colonna was great as a Bob Hope sideman but did not have the kiddie appeal of Kirchner . Ms. Wirth was a pretty good baton twirler but she did not have dad appeal that Hartline had . Overall the NYC production seems to be superior to the Chicago one.
