While it is certainly possible that the DMA was a big fumble, I think people fail to understand that DMA actions take time. As far as I understood, Apple (and other gatekeepers) have 12 months after the initial decision by the EU to adjust their course. This means that we could have to wait until the beginning of 2025 to actually see the EU slapping a huge fine on Apple. Also, the EU opened new investigations on the "core technology fees" and the other malicious compliance decisions Apple has made. It's just too early to say the DMA was a fumble.
Apple's fee does not violate the DMA in any way, they are allowing other app stores to exist on their devices, that's all the DMA required of them, they said nothing of payment processing
@@detdeet The DMA decision did say something about payment processing. While Apple's revenue split is not in violation, effectively forcing users and developers to use Apple's payment processing is in violation of the DMA . Their current proposed compliance where developers can link to external payment solutions are also found to be possibly in violation of the DMA because of how restricted they are and because Apple still wants a cut of that money. So while the DMA doesn't technically cover Apple's 30% cut on App Store payments, it will hopefully end up forcing Apple into adopting less restrictive practices when it comes to allowing developers to advertise alternative pricing outside of the App Store. And if that happens, Apple's insane revenue share will be less of an issue for situations like the one in this video.
