I use Elmer’s glue to make my clay and I have had no problems with cracking. My recipe I used was 1c Elmer’s school glue 1c cornstarch 2tsp vegetable oil 2tsp white vinegar Cooked it as you did here Not saying any recipe is better just pointing out I’ve never had a problem with thin or thick pieces cracking
Elmers makes several types of glue. After doing some research, Elmer’s PVA glue is called “GLUE ALL”. It can be used for wood, clay, slime, paint pours, etc. it has a higher content of PVA vs their “School Glue” which has less PVA in it to make it more washable for janitors in the schools. This is likely why Elmer’s School Glue has the potential to crack. Also, if you can get your clay to dry really slow, the least likely it will crack. I think a lot has to do with your environment as well as the quality of the glue. Thanks for the recipe!
I have used Elmer's glue and it worked quite well. I can't afford expensive wood glue. I will continue to use Elmer's and I don't use the cook method.,I have never had a crack or split of any kind. I follow red rocking bird
Thank you for the recipe! I am making cold porcelain flowers. I used Elmer’s school glue for my first flowers, I don’t think I noticed cracking but it makes sense if it has less PVA. I also haven’t made it on the stove top yet just in the microwave. I am thinking about trying the Elmer’s glue all and also the framing glue to see which I like the best. The framing glue is double the price though so thats the only bummer. I do work at a frame shop so I might see how much the glue is we buy. I would like a glue that makes the flowers more flexible once dried and I was wondering if you noticed a difference in flexibility in the glues? I also wanted to ask have you done the microwave and is doing stove top better in some way?
After they’ve dried u can sand the dust off of ur creations with either a hand file or I recommend an automated nail file if you are making pieces very often :D
Not sure. You can try and see what happens. The trick is to get to the right consistency so you can make the shapes you want. When the clay is too soft, it may be hard to create shapes. When is too hard, you can always add water later to make it a bit softer.
@@razanr4460 how big? I have a friend who made a life size Batman out of it first. I think knits fine, just a lot of batches of clay to make. I’d use tin foil and other armature materials so the clay is only in the surface.
@@myluckyears and how did the batman sculpture hold up ? Im planing on doing a approximately 50 cm sculpture and yes im planning on using foam as the base and wrap with the clay on top. I just wanted to make sure i can do that so i dont risk it.
That's because it's drying too fast. You don't have enough moisture in your environment. Try keeping a damp paper towel over your peice for the first night of drying

I only keep in fridge when I won't use the clay for a while. It helps to last longer. Make sure to seal it well then cover it with a dark plastic bag.

Elmers glue will crack the clay. Has to be PVA wood glue.

Yes and no. They are PVC glues, but a lot of them are more watered down, causing it to crack more. At least that has been my experience.
