You guys just saved me $$$, got the same code and also had issues with the dash. I found online that the switch would fix the dash issues, but was worried about U1411 "fuel", and thought i would take have to take it to dealer. Im going to replace the switch. BTW i did get my original switch replaced via the recall. some people mentioned dealers wanted to charge install to replace it.
7 years later and this video is still helping people. Yall took what i thought was gonna be a long, expensive fix and turned it into a $25, 10 min job. Thank you so much.
Did this today. Thanks so much! I bought a used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and not long after my dash lights began to flicker intermittently. My AC would shut off when this happened and at times my engine would not start. My check engine light then came on and when I checked the code it showed U1411. It was a relatively easy fix and so far the problem seems corrected! Thanks again!
The profanity-edited part might have been useful - it took me a while to figure out how to get the switch assembly out. For future reference, it comes out best when you turn it clockwise while pushing back and down. Then install while turning counter-clockwise. Thanks for the video!
I just want to clarify the ignition positioning when changing this part. My instructions told me to turn the ignition or “run” but there is no “run” mark, just “on” “acc” and “off”. I left the ignition on “off” and changed the old out with the new. I just indexed the new switch to where the old was positioned and it works just fine. No issues. Thanks for posting this! Seeing someone get that Devil dash panel off helped me avoid breaking anything when I pulled mine off. I was seconds away from going Hercules, haha!
Excellent job guys. I just did this. Takes 15 min after you watch this video. The black box you see on the right after you get the ignition screws off the first, second, and third cover. Turn it clock wise so it's facing down. Pops right out.
Finally got around to replacing the ignition switch... man, that was a bear to get out & put back up in the dash.. lol.. took me an hour total. Thanks for the knowledge through this video..
Extremely helpful video. I found that I needed to disconnect the connector to the switch to drop it down. It was still a bitch to get it to drop but eventually I was able to deliver it below the dash. Getting it back in was facilitated by directing the back end in first pointed up. Then move the unit down and forward into the spot.

Same problem on my '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited which already got a new recalled ignition switch about 3 years ago. Got a check-engine light that turned off and on on its own and ODB-II reader pulled code U1411. Cleared the code and it worked for a while and now having another symptom which is dash lights flashing on startup after AC kicks on. AC will also pulsate. Thanks so much for giving me a strong indication this is just the stupid ignition switch.
Bought the part on Amazon and installed it in about 45 minutes thanks to your video which was full of tips. Interestingly the last repair done by the dealer on a re-call ignition switch was done sloppy. They didn't seat the ignition switch assembly properly and tossed away the top 3rd screw. So far so good. Only time will tell since this is a problem that comes and goes but I am very hopeful!
Nice video. In my experience if you first remove the blend door actuator located behind the ignition switch is much more easy to remove and install the ignition switch assembly. Remove the actuator is an easy task. Thanks for the good job
Got the recall notice last Jan, mine would turn on and act like the batt was dead but the light never dim. Sometimes the batt was dead? Got the switch changed at the dealer then/now 7 months later its doing it again? 2005 Jeep grand Cherokee. Putting the whole assembly back in place was a giant two and a half hour chore because of the big plastic box on the side and the metal bracing and all, but my car starts like it should again. Saving money was nothing compared to the relief that it worked. Thanks, I couldn't have even begun without this video.
So this would be the issue also if you have a remote started because what you saying happens to me. Most of the time i use my remote starter. Keep it mind it never did it when i first put it on. Now at time i use it and will flash lights, turn my AC off and engine light will go on for a few days then it will go away in her own.. with the u1411 code. Please advice

No issue with programming the switch, not needed. I will say that this switch eventually failed too and it was replaced again. Sounds like you need a new switch as well. Thanks for watching!
I had this code, lights went off, AC shut off, engine went dead got a check engine light with same code than I cleared it and it never happened again, is this similar to what happened to you?
It's been a while so not sure at this point. You'll want to do a new search. If I recall correctly, that switch failed not too long after this video was made.
You are not the first person to ask. That noise is a blend door gear (slipping) in the dash. This changes where the air is directed within the dash, fo AC or heat. Not a huge deal to replace.
Hi, I've the same issue. The dashboard used to flash while driving and the AC also sometimes turned off. But the car isn't starting since yesterday. no cranking, no noise at all. When I turn the key on, the dashboard light comes on but the car doesn't start. It accidentally turned on earlier today and I took the car to the mechanic and he said the battery, starter and alternator are working fine. He asked me to go to the dealership to get the ignition switch checked. I just checked your video and now I think I've the same issue. So should I go to the dealership to get it fixed? or I can just buy an ignition switch and get it changed at the mechanic's?

michael zayas Tl;DR I'm not sure it's the same part, but I had that exact issue and changed a thing that looks like that part on my blower motor to fix it. I was an aircraft mechanic for 6 years so I got decent at troubleshooting, but I'm not much of a car guy so I might be calling interior gizmos the wrong name 😄 I never called it that, I just thought it was just called an AC blender control, but it looks like the same part. I (literally) changed mine 40 minutes ago, but it was in the glove box on the blower motor and I had to transfer over a plastic gear. Everybody else seems to have one in super crappy positions, so I'm still not 100% sure that it's the same issue. If you've got the clicking on the passenger side with the AC on, I can tell you how I troubleshot it and where the part I changed is at. I pulled mine off, typed in the part number on amazon and ordered the first thing that looked like it. now it works and I've got non-invasive ac.
i noticed you said while reading the instructions to ensure the key was in the run position, but then i noticed when you put the ignition back in place it appears the key is in the off position ?? did you turn the key back after installing the new ignition??
craig pelley In the end I think it really didn't matter where it was because we took the keys out to get the switch out (off). I think it's supposed to in run when you separate the switch from the plunger portion. The instructions for this particular switch may have been a bit out of sequence.

xin zang This switch had to be replaced a month or so later. After that is was ok. About a year or so later he sold the Jeep to get a Minivan (more kids).
hey guys my 05 just threw the same code up , on googling , it is said that thus can happen if you use a command start for the car (which i do in canada) ... do i just ignore it or still replace the switch ? what do you think cheers
blair marriott Hmm. Great question. I'm not exactly sure about the command start. If it were my car, I'd wait and see. Clear the code and start the car with the key, then check for the code. you can ignore the code or have it "cleared" and see if it comes back. if your jeeps electrical stuff (blower, tach, speedo etch) starts quitting on you i would definitely replace the switch

My 05 did exactly the same thing today after also having the ignition switch replaced on recall.
Mine is doing the same thing. Also after a recall a while back.
When I turn the key into the on position the engine light stays on any idea as to why?

Could be a bad switch again for sure. We had to change this one again about a month after we changed this one.

That knocking noise after start up is one of the blend door motors sticking, I'm sure you aware of that but felt like commenting. Great video

Did this fix last long? My 07 is having similar problems and I think it's the ignition switch also.
Jordan sold it a year or so later so I'm not really sure. But I'd trust a switch from O'Reilly's rather than Amazon about 9.9% more. Just sayin'.

Turns out this switch had to be replaced a month or so later, returned to Amazon for refund and purchased a new one at O'Reilly's; all good!

Dale Sh That is a plastic gear slipping in the AC control box in the dash. I'm sure there's videos on TH-cam for this, it's a common problem.

See responses to previous posts. It's in the AC box under that dash, an actuator. Might be pretty easy.

The usual suspects are spark and fuel. Have to verify you have fuel pressure and spark.

I have a 2007 dodge charger and it is throwing u1411 and u1403 codes. Could it be the same thing? id imagine so but unsure.
Not sure about that one. It's pretty new. You'd think they would have it straightened out by then. A Hayne's manual may be more help.
