    The tip about telling yourself you are confident once both feet are on the pedals is the best tip for jumping I have ever seen. Otherwise I am second guessing myself the entire way to the lip where I may pull the brake and call it a day. This forces the mindset from the beginning. Thank you for this.

    This video helped me over the past 3 days, i stand by gmbn videos to help/teach myself or anyone wanting to learn to jump my ir there mtb. I kept landing on my rear wheel on 1 jump at my local d.i.y which was a small table/step down landing which if i knew how to manual would be amazing as its the last jump/end of trail but i want to be 95 - 100% comfortable with basic and slightly challenging hurdles(jumps), im only a beginner in most peoples eyes but i was soooo over the moon when i dropped into a 6ft take off which had a 10ft gap step up landing, whsn my friends said howwww? Coz they had DJS and wouldnt ride it i just said imagine it doesnt have a 4 ft ditch in the middle of the take off and step up landing
    Thankyou GMBN for the videos and advice to help me progress in the mtb world 🤟🏽💯 SEENNNDDDD ITTT !

    Finding a table top, you haven't hit before, and forcing yourself to not be able to come up short is a good mental step on your way to gaps as well.

    Hey 👋 guys definitely agree confidence is a huge part and also focusing on your landing and always best to start on smaller jumps, I used to mark my landings on a table top with a stick so each try I would focus on that line and try longer jumps . Great video Blakey. 👀

    It's all mental in your head getting over thinking about the double part. I was hitting 10ft plus tables for ages befor I was comfy nd smaller doubles, then started sending doubles the same size was do much easier than I thought! I did my first double in Swinley Bike Hub. I took me just 2 takes while following my friend. On the 3rd while following I committed, but a different story while on my own. I thought I needed more speed so first couple tries where overjumps. I just didn't want to case my Hardtail.

    Exactly what I needed, except I might not start on that size of gap yet...
    How about step downs like you often meet on a trail, not just a flat drop but a kicker then a gap and a landing. I can commit to a smallish gap if it’s an up and down motion but when you’re hauling it downhill and the speed to clear the gap is going to really send you with a lot of forward speed, no option to case and get away with it... any mind tricks?

    • @Azkardt
      @Azkardt 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      just go full deathgrip..
      kidding, if there's really no small jumps in your area maybe build them on your own. Sending big jumps at the beginning never turns out good. Like Blake said, one of the most important points is that you have to be confident with the speed you need to clear a jump. If you trash up the lip thinking "f*ck im so fast, omg so f*cking fast" the chances to mess it up are high.

    • @Geordo1960
      @Geordo1960 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you had a (big) crash, smashing your head rather hard. Otherwise i replace both (halfshell and fullface) helmets about every two seasons (two years) or so. And don't save up at the wrong point..buy quality helmets. i normally spend 200-300€ for a new fullface (halfshell about 80-120€), cheaper is inferior. But yeah, thats just my opinion.
      Ride on dude!

      You don't need the highest end helmet, for example getting the plastic version instead of the carbon version isn't going to be any less safe just a bit heavier. Otherwise yes, after they've taken a hard hit or it's been a few years (I kept my last one for five years which was probably a little too long) it's time to replace it.

      @midlifebiker7424 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did the same, pulling up too early and aggressive rather than letting the bike come up and tugging my legs. Find a jump you are comfortable with and wait for the back wheel to lift and bend your knees as it comes up. Then start to push forward on the bars into the landing keeping the back up and your feet on the pedals. I was too stiff and not smooth. It was still scary getting the extra height and distance as your stomach reacts so start small and good luck. I still get scared when doing a new jump for the first time as they all need tweaking. Good luck as they are fun when you get it right...

    #askgmbn is there a difference between a gap and a double?

    • @Azkardt
      @Azkardt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doubles are jumps with shaped lips and shaped landings and a gap in between (like the one in the vid). A "gap"jump is everything with a gap in between :D..means it can be a double or something like a roadgap or stepdown etc. But that depends on the jargon and the area you ride in i guess. For us (in Austria) f.e. a gap can be pretty much every obstacle after which you're fucked up if you don't clear it ;)

      That's right; a double has a defined take off and landing, a gap is anything with a minimum distance you need to clear/anything you can't roll over

    Why does it look like he is not pulling up or compressing his suspension forehand?
    He sort of just rolls it.
