Yea, reacting to a full double album in 1 sitting...should be quite interesting! I feel like I should be eating a salmon dinner during the listen haha. Oh I've been thinking of that already. My Pink Floyd journey will definitely finish first. I may pick 2 bands and alternate every week. So many to choose from, but of course the ones that have crossed my mind are Yes, ELP, Supertramp, Steely Dan.... I will likely put some polls out there as well....🙂

Other great possibilities could be Deep Purple, Porcupine Tree, Alan Parsons, Chicago, ELO to name a few. I’ve got a suggestion for another new artist 😮! It’s a German band called Frumpy. They released their first album in 1970 and split up in 1972 after just a few albums. Then they reunited briefly in 1989 and early ‘90s released a couple more albums. I’m partial to their third album “By The Way” from 1972. The title track is an 8+ minute masterpiece! They’re described as progressive rock, blues, folk, psychedelic. Their singer, Inga Rumpf, has been compared to Janis Joplin. I’ve been listening to them lately and figured it was time to share them with you. Lol

At the very end of the album "The Division Bell" and previous "High Hopes", "Lost For Words": a first outstretched hand (appeal to reason) from David Gilmour to Roger Waters but the latter, from the height of his inordinate ego ("Beyond your tunnel vision"), is stubborn in refusing without the slightest consideration and to the point of slander. It's all summed up in a few lines:
"I was caught in a cauldron of hatred,
I felt persecuted and paralyzed [...],
While you are wasting your time on your enemies [...],
Beyond your tunnel vision, reality fades [...],
Is it true, you beat your fists on the floor? [...],
So I open my door to my enemies,
And I ask could we wipe the slate clean,
But they tell me to please go fuck myself,
You know you just can't win."
Gilmour will have tried everything to put an end to a disunity that he always considered grotesque in its foundations. Personality and power crisis (domination); a power (leadership) that Gilmour never claimed. It was through his exceptional talent alone that Gilmour gradually came to dominate the destiny of PINK FLOYD; Waters saw his throne threatened... and he perceived this as an act of treachery. The guru therefore decided to leave, thinking that the community he had founded would not survive. However, PINK FLOYD and his fans survived Waters' departure without difficulty. As the saying goes: Cemeteries are full of “irreplaceable” people. Thanks.

I always thought this song would sound great covered by The Travelling Willburys. The acoustics have always reminded me of a Willburys song and I reckon Tom Petty would have nailed the lead vocals.

Pretty sure this wasn't included on the "Pulse" video, nor do I recall them doing it live in Chicago back then. I don't think Dave wanted to give the ornery stuck-up bugger the satisfaction. 😏

I always wished it was on the CD since it wasn't on the DVD. The 2019 version has a rehearsal version as a bonus feature. It would be nice if they released an updated version of the CD and included a recording of each song they played that hasn't been released yet. Lost For Words, On the Turning Away, One Slip, Poles Apart, and Marooned on a third bonus disc would be fantastic. Also wish they'd included Echoes on the DSOT re-release.

As much as I loved "Dark Side of the Moon", "Division Bells" for me was even better. There is one tune they left off, "Division Bells" but was written then, Pink Floyd decided to put on "Endless River" as a final hit years later and that is "Louder Than Words". That perfect finale to a legendary band. David pulled this band out of the ashes, when Roger left. He didn't disappoint. BTW, I like your style. Peace, Love and Light. Keep up the good work.

Sorry so late to this party B. One thing of interest about this song that I don't hear many people mention is how similar the opening acoustic strum is to that of Wish You Were Here, albeit sped up. It's SO similar in fact that, given the context of his struggles with Roger, and how Dave has often publicly lamented the loss of his talent, adding that subtle allusion HAS to be intentional...right?

“So I open my door to my enemies

I felt sure you would react to this today as I know you have been itching to hear the album right through in sequence. As a reactor, you make a great sacrifice in listening to albums piecemeal. But you now have your long-awaited reward. I have always felt moved by this song. It is incredibly sad that by the late 70s Roger's ego was dominating his personality and alienating everyone. It seemed Richard suffered the most and Roger firing him was unforgivable in my eyes. I am glad that David was able to salvage the band and brought Richard back. Meanwhile, Roger continues to spit his bile and spite and thinks his solo version of DSOTM has some artistic merit. But it doesn't. IMO he has completely lost the plot. Good riddance!
