You really need to listen to the full 6 min original album version rather than the single edit / official video. It builds up the tension so his voice seems to explode mid song and also has an vital ending thats cut off by the single.
As someone who's been used to Bowie since the mid-70s, 'Heroes' is far from my favourite track on the album. It's still very good, but I prefer the other tracks on this album. Try 'Beauty And The Beast' (Live Musikladen 1978). The rhythm is dense and almost danceable, but the rest is more schyzophrenic, and it's this duality that I like about Bowie! (Which, unfortunately, you don't find in his albums from the mid-80s to the end of the 80s).
You aren't really a Bowie fan right? You're not able to conceptualize his different music personas or you would appreciate how far ahead of his time they were. The album Let's Dance had good stuff but it was his most commercial & his own least favourite because of that very fact. Still each to their own, if it's what resonates with you at least it you appreciated some of his creativity.
Honestly, I think at the time I was young and lacked the artistic maturity to appreciate music beyond the catchiness and the beat. Bowie to me at that time was music for my older siblings. By the time I was older, I was pretty set in my musical tastes with the flavor of the day, so to speak. I was aware of Bowie, but didn’t really get him until he worked with Giorgio Moroder on the soundtrack of “Cat People” oddly enough. That’s the beauty of reaction channels. I can connect with deeper fans to gain a deeper understanding of artistic genius. Thank you so much for being a part of my education Helen.
There is a version with partly German lyrics. And for me as a German, this is an honor.
Love that too @theposiamus!

Thanks for the tip @anthonymckeever6626. I will do that now on my way to pick up a pizza!
I get what you mean. Where his voice almost breaks midway through the song when he’s doing the “I would be king” verse again. Wow!
There are better live versions of this song. Even the album version is better. Keep listening to Bowie and discover the man's genius!! ❤
What are the next tracks you’d recommend I listen to?
'Stay' live from the 'Dina Shore' show, daytime American TV from the 70s !!!
Just amazing !!...
David Bowie live at the Beat club is the best version by far!
I’ll have to take a listen to that version for sure! Thanks for checking out our reactions channel!
Key collaborators on this - Tony Visconti , Robert Fripp and Brian ENO.
Thank you for sharing the info!
Hunky Dory = best album, imho.
I’ll have to take a listen! Thanks for checking out my channel @polferiferusil!

Thanks AK for the recommendation. I will listen to it tonight.
@@moteventure Great!👍
David Bowie's target audience was ... Not teens. So makes sense. Kinda like Van Morrison and so many others.
Totally makes sense. It’s good to know. I am on the normal scale when it comes to the music of David Bowie. What are the songs would you recommend?
I wonder if he was friends with Andy Warhol. Weird can be good.Weird with talent is a gift to all of us.
Love that. Weird with talent! Welcome to the channel.

You miss the point by listening to the single version. Sucks when they do that
That’s the issue with first reactions. I didn’t know any better. I agree the album version builds and is way cooler! Thanks @stevemurano7863!
