    Honestly man , the nvg30 is where its at. I have a gen 2 pvs14 but i prefer my dual NVG30s... The color modes .... Dude that shxt is a vibe ! These things run and gun with no issues either ! No latency and very little lag. Muzzle flash does nothing to them and the perform just fine in just startlite. Digital is getting pretty serious not gonna lie!

    Wow! Been waiting many months excitedly anticipating this video but it was well worth the wait! Never thought about bridging this device with analog for the sake of a color overlay but its a pretty cool ideal. Going to test this concept out with my Gen 2+ WP pvs14 and see how it pairs with the NVG30. One option to extend the battery life is to run a powerbank as a counterwight on the helmet and feed power to the NVG30 to a usb-c cable. The view through the eyepiece is able to pick up a little more in low light conditions compared to the recorded footage and its also important to note that you were using the NVG30 without any IR lighting and if you are ok with running IR, the device works really well in pitch dark out to about 100m. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to analog in your future videos.

      USB C counterweight is a great idea! I’ll definitely mention that in another video later. So far, I have been very very pleased with the NvG30 no ir performance and will say it already holds pretty well against analog in many conditions! Excited to keep making videos!

    Nice review, you earned a sub!. I bought an NVG30 and enjoy it for what it is. I could even shoot a Ruger 10/22 with an IR laser under a half moon. It's definitely good enough to screw around with and take night walks with if you don't care about blasting IR everywhere once the moon goes away, you might even get away with using it for playing airsoft or shooting rats. But it's not a piece of equipment you should trust your life to. If your life or safety depends on good NODS? Gen2+ minimum. This is more of a "recreational device".
    I agree with the "more spectral sensitivity" bit, my other unit is an old Armasight Sirius Gen2+ and i can attest that the NVG30 is incredibly sensitive to IR light. Let me give you an anecdote. My neighbors live in the woods across the road and theyre often doing bonfires at night like 100-125yds away or so. Of course fire generates a lot of IR light and shows up nice and bright on any NV device. One night i was out stargazing with my NVG30 and could literally see the flickering of the IR light from the fire 100yds away reflecting off the license plate of my car and lighting up the whole woods. That fire was like an omnidirectional spotlight under digital. I went inside, grabbed my Gen2 to try that out in comparison and i could only see the light from the fire flickering off the trees. I can also see the IR light from the security camera in my living room at night through the windows lighting up the whole house. So it's definitely a lot more sensitive to IR than Russian Gen2 (or Photonis, i'm not sure what's in my Sirius) tubes are.
    Digital tech is getting better and i think the digital NV space is going to get very interesting within the next 5-10yrs if they improve the light amplification, latency and either improve the battery life or have more efficient batteries to deal with the increased power consumption over analogs. But that time is not now.

      Recreation is a great way to describe this device so far. But, I can still see this very much able to be a tool if needed to be. Spectral sensitivity is a very interesting thing. Hypothetically, you could find a ir illuminator in a waveband outside of analog devices to counter shining a bit. I think it can be quite the useful tool.

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And yes, digital is going to be getting very very interesting especially with the photonis CMOS leaks and such. Quite exciting. I’m going to have a opsin on the channel very soon and I’m very excited to see how the best digital night vision holds up. Cool stuff coming soon!

      @keithm5378 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@extrudedshoots I don't disagree that it can have some interesting "tool" uses despite it's limitations. The possibility of using out of band illuminators could increase its usefulness. The pseudo-full color mode and ability to record definitely make it a useful device for static observation and surveillance as well, as I figured out in one other instance.
      Another night I was out stargazing with it and there was a suspicious car sitting outside another neighbor's house at 12:30AM for like 30 minutes, headlights off, with two or three dudes quietly arguing with each other, it was really weird. Since I was already out stargazing with it, I figured it was a good idea to record the car in case they did anything, and in case I had to call the cops, because I was afraid they were robbers scoping out my neighbors house. In the end they eventually drove off, I let that neighbor know the next day, and nothing else came of it. Just one of those weird situations. If something did happen, being able to show the cops the video evidence would have been very helpful if they really did decide to do something bad.
      I'll be looking forward to your review on the Opsin! Keep up the good work.

    To do a little bit of armchair quarterbacking you spoke a bit to the digital device becoming dead weight on your head, and I think you could easily circumvent that by keeping it easily detachable. So as you pass the 70 or 50% moon, and image grain starts to increase; you could drop it in a pouch and rely on the cleaner analog image.
    Interesting concept though and good video

      Honestly I was thinking about this too. I have a few ideas on how to accomplish this, but that could solve that problem for sure. It also could act as a QD point for maybe thermal devices aswell

    How do you find running and gunning with it or CQB? Is it useable for that?

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RufusTheEpic for sure. Analog is supreme for that so my left eye is covered on that, the NVG30 does give depth perception which helps greatly in doors. If the NVG30 doesn’t feel right, just articulate it out of the way and run the analog

    • @RufusTheEpic
      @RufusTheEpic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@extrudedshoots Thanks but I meant if I only had a monocular NVG30, would it be useable with a bit of practice or is it significantly worse than analog in that area

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RufusTheEpic As of now, analog is leagues ahead of digital in CQB. an NVG30 would not be useless, but it would be much harder to use. As for runnning and guunning outdoors, the NVG30 does fine

    Please release the step files for your mount! Seems like the Katana housing but not an actual housing, articulates and tucks up.
    Would be cool to see it adapted to also be like the pano bridge, where it can articulate down then tilt out to give a wider FOV. People could remix for the various 3dp nv projects and also for pvs14 and maybe even the tnv10 thermal. Ive seen people run a thermal non dominant and nv dominant, for a similar effect but "fusion".
