This rekindled the complete, and utter fascination I had after watching a Let's Play of this game. Viola and Ellen had such interesting designs, but perhaps recognizing them what made it interesting. Chiika gave Ellen an adorable voice of a young child, not yet a woman, and the animations are exactly how I imagined they would be if she sang the song with movements. What I found the best was the entire thing, but the end was very true, sad and an excellent idea.
This video could make a Navy SEAL unit cry. JOKES, but it'd certainly stir up their heart over what they are conditioned to experience out there. Anyway this video really did capture Elllen's soul in it. It left me amazed over how beautifully put the video was! Good job. :)
Glad I'm not the only one who notices that! Considering you know about the storyline and plot twist, I have a headcanon that her eyes were the side effect/intended "mark" of the pact made between Ellen and the Black Cat. After all, the cat is a demon who makes deals ;)
It's The Witch's House, and it's a game filled with nothing but jump scares and pain when you get the true ending. I beat it months ago and I'm STILL shook up over how tragic this story is.
If there is anyone to hate, I think it's the cat demon. He was the one who gave Ellen her powers and therefore the body swapping spell. Not to mention it's implied he ate Viola's soul in the end.
In the ending with the no save. She downright seems giddy that she takes Viola's place. And her journals hint she actually cut her legs off, and gouged out her eyes so Viola couldn't escape, and then when she wouldn't stop screaming, she scalded her throat so she couldn't scream anymore. She intentionally silenced her "Friend" It's a hard ending to get since you can't save with the cat.
The part I don't get about the body switch is wouldn't viola know that she gouged her eyes out and cut off her own legs or did she do that too her after or what? I know she tricked her saying it was mess but was a throat salve which silenced her but what about the rest

RANDOM THOUGHT FOR FUN: we could almost "say" what happened in "Witch's house" is like the parallel world of what happened AFTER the story in "Mad father"... Ellen being an alternate Aya...(except that her parents actually loved her...maybe too much for the father....) (ellen=witch-->aya=u know what....dont wanna spoil) this comparison is quite funny ^_^
she looks so sweet, innocent and vulnerable but in reality shescompletely different i have to keep reminding myself shes the bad guy although it is sad she had such a horrid life

there is a way to get a real good ending but you have try not to save the game by the demon cat it's very tricky but it works that all I know. :) took me like along time to get though the whole game but it was awesome (i'm not going to spoil it)

Still, I think you have to admire Ellen to an extent. She never stops trying to escape the house, despite everything trying to kill her, and she downright refuses to give up Viola's body. The lengths she went to get it were quite extreme. You might not like her, but you have to at least respect her, somewhat.
I played the game and then there is 2-3 outcomes and with Mad Father it's 3 but it matters on how you choose to end the game like there is a long ending if you do this special stage and then you have the short one that barely tells you any shit. Also Please do a Mad Father one!!!
The "good" ending doesn't necessarily have to be happy. The "good" ending is considered good because it sheds light on the entire story, despite it being sad. On another note, if you go through the "bad" ending first, it is more of a cheerful ending for those who haven't seen the other ending, which is what makes it sad, that you cheer for Ellen the entire time while hating Viola.

She didn't get stuck. She got into a fight with her father so she was on her way to her friends house and took the wrong path. And ended up at the witches house.
Here's how I see Ellen's story. Ellen was a witch, forgotten, alone and unloved. And she was dying. When Viola came along, they became friends. And Ellen saw that people loved Viola, and that she had the love Ellen never had. So she switched places with Viola, trapping Viola in the house so Ellen could leave the house with her healthy friend's body and live with the love the Viola had. In conclusion, loneliness drove Ellen to do this. Loneliness is a powerful emotion.

I still don't want to accept the fact ellen betrayed viola.. fkin hell!.. A good ending would have been the Game Over where Viola (in Ellen's body) manages to grab Ellen (in Viola's body) during the running scene. xD No matter what, there is always a bad ending..
