The saddest thing i’ve noticed yet, is that in the normal ending when Viola’s Father tells Viola to stand back, Viola in Ellen’s Body stands back for a second, Viola must’ve thought his father was referring to her.
Now that you mentioned it, i am more touched by the ending than before... damn why a sad ending?.... Poor Viola

1 other thing : This ending is already been predicted by 'The Funny Story' from the library (if you remember, the Hunter in that 'Funny Story' shot his own dog).
Fummy really good with all of the small detail in "The Witch's House".
Ah, almost forgot. I remember there is 1 part, where we (as Viola), in total darkness. Try to press 'Start' button there, and we can see 'The Evil Viola' as our picture. I think it indicates that 'Viola' is not as innocent as we think.
Viola had come in to the house earlier I'm assuming to see Ellen, but Ellen did the body swap with her. She gouged her own eyes out, and cut off her legs. She wanted Viola to suffer. Knowing the pain she was in, she gave her a medicine that burned her throat so she could no longer speak. Viola sat in the house suffering, where Ellen went outside and took a nap in the flowers, which is where our story begins.
You've read the book? That's where I knew why Ellen's body didn't have any legs or eyes anymore
She cut the legs so she couldn't walk like Ellen , and that's why she couldn't say father or anything

Everything about the background story and this ending just get to me so hard.
Even seeing a few seconds of it is like opening up an old wound.
I don't hate Witch's House-- far from it --but it's one of those pieces of media that I would probably never want to return to ever.

Now I'm even more disturbed on how Ellen will treat Viola's father knowing her view or concept of love is kind of warped/twisted since she never felt it from her own father. It's even implied in the manga.
I am partly convinced that Viola's father might become suspicious of Ellen (in Viola's body) at some point if she continues to put up with the same mindset/attitude, or drops the act of being Viola and somehow her father catches her doing so, but with the memories remaining in Viola's body, it's almost impossible to recognize that a fraud has taken over his daughter's body since Ellen could may as well adapt to it and learn to be Viola. Maybe she might reveal the whole truth to him in his deathbed, but at least he will reunite with Viola in the afterlife… unless of course, the demon has eaten her soul - then there's no winning for Viola after all.
Yeah it's implied that the demon cat eats Viola's soul. After all, one of the reasons Ellen mutilated her own body before the swap was so Viola would despair as she died, and that's just how the demon likes his souls before devouring them. Viola was doomed the moment she met Ellen.
Ellen has had a loooong time and practice deceiving people. I don't think Viola's dad will ever catch on to his "daughter" acting a little differently. He might just assume that's weird teen behavior or Viola just growing up.

K first of all. I dk why but it just kinda blows my mind that I never heard of this game until now. Second of all, this is one of the most heartbreaking endings ever. I feel so bad for Viola. She was so nice to Ellen, and Ellen repaid her kindness by making her body condition worse just so that Viola would suffer. Seeing Viola trying to say “Father” is just really heartbreaking and it’s even more heartbreaking that her own father killed her without even knowing it, and he even called her a monster, not knowing that she’s actually his daughter in another body. To make matters worse, Ellen just totally gets away with her own actions and doesn’t get punished at all. Watching her giggle as she walks away just makes me hate her so much because it shows that she showed absolutely no regret over what she did to Viola and it shows just how much of a sadistic b******ch she is. To make matters even more worse, the demon that was possessing the cat absorbed Viola’s soul, implying that Viola might have been sent to the place with the name that shall not be mentioned. I feel so bad for the father too. I mean imagine how he would react once he finds out that he was tricked into killing his own daughter and that he might’ve potentially sent her to that place. I can only imagine him crying for hours and hours. Speaking of which, I know it’s highly unlikely that this game will get a sequel, but if they ever make one, they should have the father be the player and have him find out that he was tricked into killing his own daughter, and have him try to kill Ellen for tricking him. It’s unlikely that there will be a sequel, but if there will ever be one, I think this plot would be a good idea.

Yeah no Ellen deliberately mutilated her own body before the swap to make Viola suffer, and in the novel she took her sweet time to bring "medicine" for Viola as she screamed in pain from both the sickness and the amputated legs/gouged eyes. That medicine ended up being a throat burning concoction because Ellen didn't like the sound of her old body's screams. It's also heavily implied in the novel that Ellen has an Electra complex so that's another reason she's delighted to run off with her new "father."

Having a good ending would make it forgettable . It’s a nice change having the villian win no matter what. Having all bad endings is what makes this game unique and memorable, a good ending would ruin it.

If this game had a good ending, it just wouldn’t be as memorable. It’s a good choice by the creator. You don’t always get a happy ending.

If you feel bad about this ending, go make someone smile today. Bring joy to someone who is tricked and deceived, or down on their luck. Endings like this are meant to make you think. But in the case the creators were just trying to make people sad, never doubt yourself! Just let it make you stronger, learn something from it!

For people that didn't understand. Ella is in the body of Viola and Viola is Ella's body. So you have played with the bad person. As it seems Ella(the bad one) wanted Viola(the good one) to suffer. So she cut her eyes and her legs and gave Viola (the bad one)a pill so she couldn't talk anymore and knew that Viola(the good one) would change her body. Viola(the good one) wanted to get her body back, so she asked Ella(the bad one) to come. After that Ella(the bad one) went to sleep in the woods,where the game begins.(This happens in a day).More stuff: Third ending is that but Ella accepted to give Viola's body back. The pain that she had when they changed body Ella(bad one) gave her a fluid that would "help" Viola but in fact burned her throat. And in the end the cat comes and take the body. That cat is the demon.

In the light novel Ellen made a contract with the cat (Demon) , a witch power in exchange of her soul so she could fight back against her abusive mother ... She has a sad story as well.. until she saw Viola picking flowers outside and invited her in to her house , the contract with the demon requires
1. To feed the cat with souls from whom you killed
2. At the end of your mortal life your soul will be taken by the cat as well
So she came up with this clever plan to use her witch power to change body with Viola in order to void the contract from herself and let Viola get the end deal of the contract , which is sad as heck because she is probably in hell suffering eternaly without doing any sin.

@@MegamanZXOmega I get where you're going. I really do. Not to defend Ellen in any way, but isn't she the "true" protagonist? I mean, in reality you play as her the entire game. A protagonist isn't defined by their heroic actions or personality traits. A protagonist is the main character in a plot. Regardless if they practice good morals or not. Even a villain can be a protagonist if the creator so choosed. This also applies to antagonists. Antagonists aren't always boiled down to being evil characters. Being an antagonist simply means they oppose the goals of the protagonist. Viola is considered an antagonist because she prevents Ellen from escaping the forest and tries to get her body back, which Ellen refuses to return.

And The Demon Cat.. Was Behind It. Viola Was The Sick Girl That Needed To Be Better. But The Cat Promised to help if she killed people and children. Viola killed Ellen To Be Better. Viola kinda dismantled herself for pity.
Then ellen got killed by the father, And At The End, Viola Had done what the cat had said to do, Kill. We then see the cat walk up to ellen corpse, disappearing along with ellens body. Absorbing her soul, for power or for something other. Like They Had Asked Viola To Kill Kids, For Them. Ellen Was Just One Of Them.
So this Means,
The Cat Was The Bad One. Viola Was Only Trying To Live. She Was A Puppet. Don’t Be Angry At Ellen Nor Viola.

Kinda reminds me Zamasu used a wish to switch bodies with Goku. The outcome is the same like this one, but has more timelines. The creator of Witch House should be a director of some anime, because he's really creative with that stuff.

What if Viola is just another victim of Ellen and Viola wasn't the only kid to lost her body to the witch? the letter says "There's an old legend that says a witch lives in the forest, and kidnaps children who get lost there." so probably there were more victims of Ellen, some survived, others died and had the same fate Viola had. Ellen body seems too young for a 100 years old lady, so her body probably is actually the body of another girl. Maybe after Viola died in the older body Ellen had and Ellen acquired Viola's body she just killed Viola's father and went again to her house or used Viola's house as her new house and the cycle repeated again (a kid finds Ellen, they become friends, Ellen pretends to be sick and they [the kid and Ellen] trade bodies and... well you know the rest).
Nevermind, the book explains the backstory of Ellen, so... ignore my comment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To me, she feels more like a serial killer who killed her parents along with lost kids in some virtual world with other criminals run rampart... Wouldn't mind adding this just to actually have the real Ellen killed off by a transformation who back stabbed her.
Unless a witch hunter steps in, then it would be the only ending.

I need to get this off my chest because dude this game's ending made me relapse so hard I was literally bed rotting levels of depressed, sleeping all day, not showering and not eating because I could only think about this all day every day. I was coping by reading fanfics of happy endings for the game but it just follows me everywhere. This part is hilarious but I saw the icon for rpgmaker mv on my desktop and I had to get away from my laptop because it reminded me of this game. I can't work on my own rpgmaker game anymore, at least for a while due to my irrational anger and sadness towards this game.

So this entire time, we’re playing as the villain. I hate that it’s the case. To this day, I still remember the feeling I had finding out the plot twist. Finding out that it wasn’t your typical “escape the house from a scary monster!”, no, it was a game where we played as the monster. What a twist indeed.

My canonity is that they’re faking it to make Ellen innocent, that’s Ellen’s ghost everywhere in the game.
This is so unsatisfied. Viola might be doom from the start but at least let Ellen ate the consequences of her cruel action. You could have defy the demon cat at the last moment or some shit but instead you torture the only person who want to be your friend in her last moment. There are no happy ends for you 😡

I fell REALLY bad for Viola...but...I’m glad that Ellen is free from her pain. She never got the affection a child needs to grow and she was always in pain. I read the manga and I saw her point of view. Believe it or not, she’s not evil, she’s just been through so much and she panicked. Maybe if we all learned about everyone’s backstories, we might be about to this understand each other.

I doubt that pain can change a person into a sociopathic jerk. Ellen deserves to be hated
