Most old tales and folklore had grim or bittersweet endings. They were designed to scare people while teaching them a life lesson. The happily ever after endings were concepts mainly influenced by Disney. Witch's House is a throwback to that style of story telling about the dangers of who you trust and listening to your parents. It also teaches you to not agree to anything a person that lives in a living house with a talking cat and spooky skeletons suggests without prior research.
That is not actually completely true. The versions of The Brothers Grimm wrote down where altered slightly by the brothers to be darker then their original version. The original versions were somewhere between the dark versions of The Brothers Grimm and the hopeful versions of the modern-day on a varying scale. And there's one simple reason, people love happy endings they don't enjoy the darker endings.
There was actually a case in real life comparable to this. I'll have to dig it up, but there was a Teen Girl whose friend envied her friends family so much she killed her, and then took the form of the "grieving best friend," eventually even moving in.
There's even an episode in Smallville (the live-action show of Superman as a teenager) with similar events (friend tries to kill other friend and shape-shifts into her to take her place in a loving family).
Yo I think she even tried to say "Daddy" which actually made me really sad, like imagine if Viola's Dad would have known, imagine how he would have felt to see his baby girl suffering and seeing her try struggling to get to him in hopes her father would save her
***** as a matter of fact, she did. in the book it clearly tells that ellen('s body) has the power to see everything that happens inside the forest and command it to lure people inside the house.
Forgot 1 ending: if you do literally nothing when you start a new game, after an hour "Viola" just walks off and the game ends. (I assume this is because the "witch's" body wouldn't last too long so it expired after an hour and with it, the roses.)
icecubewarning Actually no, the body swap happened before the game starts, so really Ellen gets away with Viola's body no matter what ending you get. The only time we'll get a good ending is if Fummy is merciful enough to add one. Or a sequel where Viola gets her body back.
The house and demons do help her, that's why the cat mentions it still recognizes its true master. If they didn't help at all every trap would've been a dead end and the cat would never reset the world every time you fail. A lot of the traps also act in retaliation, you cut the bears arms it comes for you, you kill the frog and it or its children kills you, you rip the plant out and it stabs you etc. This also foreshadows Ellen's true character, she isn't afraid to sacrifice to live.
Ellen wins in all endings. There is now a fourth ending where you wait an hour and Viola simply dies or something meaning you never had to go in the house in the first place.
Me too I wish the game had a really good end where the witch I’d forced to give her body back or the dad senses that something is not right ant tries to help the real viola
It's implied that the two ghosts in the prison cells are her parents. The father ghost is the one you give the opium pipe to so he was probably a drug addict in life. Combining this information with the diaries can somewhat confirm they were probably neglecting her. This gave her the motivation to murder her parents and start the chain of events leading to the game.
People say that the endings are called the "Good Ending" the "True Ending" and the "Secret Ending" I call them the "Unknowing Ending" the "OH SHIT Ending" and the "YOU BITCH ending"
***** There isn't really, but ignorance is bliss so therefore unknown ending is classed as 'good'. I would love an ending though where we could save Viola, I mean who wants to play a second time knowing your the bitch who ruined Viola's life? but if you could save her.....
VinKe ST Actually no! For the body swap spell to actually work, both participates must have complete trust in each other, so "Viola" being caught/killed by "Ellen" wouldn't have solved anything, all you would have is a dead Viola body.
Actually, getting a "Game Over" is just a big what-if scenario if you get killed by a trap, mainly showing a gruesome death and convincing the player that you are the real Viola. Canonically, you play through the entire game as Viola possessed by Ellen and you did not die at all because the house give you hints on how to avoid the traps set-up by the real Viola.
@ThatOneDood I don't totally agree on that. When you die, the demon cat revives you. So I think dying has a canonical explanation. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense for the cat to say in the secret cutscene that it knew you didn't need to make use of its power. You only get that cutscene if you never die during the game (Up to the chase at the end) and why would it serve as a save-point otherwise?
It upsets me that either way Ellen ends up alive and well, while Viola is murdered by her own father. But, being that Viola is young, her foolishness is rather understandable, especially since Ellen can be described as a psychopath (she killed her own parents at the age of 7 after all) and therefore really good at manipulating people. It would have been nice if the Secret Ending was the demon coming to Viola's dead body and propositioning her with a chance to gain revenge against Ellen. Since I would assume that demons could place a human soul inside a body as simple as a cat since the demon did for himself (and I don't believe the demon died as he booked it right before Ellen's body/Viola's soul died, which means he can move on to the next witch). That would have been a much more satisfying Secret Ending as it would foreshadow that though Ellen thinks she's out in the clear, she's not.
Or maybe an ending that the kitty(soul devouring DEMON) could turn Viola into a witch and open a revenge sequence game since Ellen kinda just left before the contract was completed
Ash Ketchum the game is complete, if you didn't know the contract was completed that is the point, Ellen is 'cured' of her disease so the witch got what she wanted, the demon wanted souls UNTIL Ellen got better.
To be fair, if Ellen retains her twisted personality throughout the rest of her life after the switch, it's quite safe to say that she will never find true happiness as it is. She herself admits in the novel that she's the type that will do anything to satisfy her own needs, which I think is an unfortunate result of her background. Such selfishness will help her get the better of others, as the game has already shown us, but whether it'll give her lasting true love is another question. She is, as it stands now, incapable of loving another, only herself.
@@93ImagineBreaker Guess not. But for people who want to write fanfics about Ellen's life post-game... Well, depending on how twisted they are, you can have stuff where Ellen continues to screw other people royally without getting her just desserts, or those where her selfish nature leads her into a downward spiral of self-destruction. The best type would the sort where she ruins the lives of others while destroying her own bit by bit. You can even end it with her burning on the stake for witchcraft (which she would not be capable of by then, but the irony is just too good to pass over).
It's not only selfishness what affected Ellen, but the lacking of a person who loves her for what she really was. (Her sick body) This is supported by what happened in the novel. When Ellen asks the cat for a friend and a kid shows up, they end up getting along pretty well (Ellen's ill body was hidden with magic) Ellen was feeling better, but when the kid saw Ellen's true form, the kid ran away calling her monster. From this time on, Ellen knew she wouldn't be loved unless she finds a cure for her illness. The search for the cure turned her into a merciless murderer.
That wouldn't have helped, because the demon (cat) always revives Ellen, anyway. Just gonna copy/paste something I wrote in another thread -- I love the twist, I wouldn't change that at all, but I still say that there should have been the option for a good ending. I adooore multiple endings because then everyone gets what they want. IMO, the good ending should have been the cat offering Viola a deal right before she otherwise dies, to help her get her body back (or at least some form of revenge) -- because that way, he would actually be getting the soul of the person who made the deal in the first place - right? I would have REALLY enjoyed something along those lines.
@@ember-brandtunlikely, because the demon seems to behave like a well-liked businessman, "its not good for business to betray his previous contractor after he got what he wanted" that type of businessman
Speaking of foreshadowing.... there was that first puzzle, where you had to "save the butterfly" by switching the yellow butterfly with the blue model (yellow probably for Viola's blond hair, and blue for Ellen's purplish hair). Not to mention where outside the house, there was a "towering, lush tree" right beside a withering one.
There's several such foreshadowings. The live frog versus the fake one was another. Not to mention some of the book clues all but say it outright. I realized the danger about halfway through, watching Markiplier's play of this. It was clear at some point that the girl was there to be part of the Witch's switch. You just don't realize until the end that it had already taken place.
There is actually another ending. A THIRD ending to this... The TRUE, HIDDEN ending. I am not talking about the "don't talk to the cat until the end" ending. That's just a bonus to another ending. If you start up a new game, and DO NOT TOUCH YOUR KEYBOARD for the next hour (just leave it as is - don't even think about taking a single step from where the game begins), the 3rd ending is triggered. Hint: The ending as something to do with one of the books you read in the house. SPOILERS: After an hour is allocated, after not touching anything, you see Viola (Ellen) walking up to the rose bushes, only to see the rose bushes dissappear. Then Viola leaves the area without entering the house, and the game ends. Why? Because one of the books said that "If the Witch dies, so does her magic." Who put the rose bushes? Viola in Ellen's body, right? If you haven't guessed it yet, the TRUE ending after being afk for an hour tells you this: Viola (Ellen) stayed outside until Ellen (Viola) painfully succumbed to the wounds and have died, thus making the rose bushes dissappear. Either way, Viola, the REAL Viola, always dies. Sorry for those who were reading this who thought the 3rd True Ending made Viola get her body back.
Totally forgot that this one existed! It's a really cool detail! Seems a bit silly for Viola (Ellen) to even go into the house... Guess she just needed to pack up her things. Can't go on without my cute lil bottle and knife :P
That ending makes me wonder something. If Viola died within the house, and thus disappeared alongside it; wouldn't the demon be angry at Ellen for not helping him consume Viola's soul?
Artistic Hiyori like maybe some of the real viola's kindness and such remained in her body along with her memories? And those slowly affected the true Witch?
It’s better that there isn’t. Every single time the good guy or the protagonist wins. It’s good to see a game where this isn’t the case. Making a good ending would just ruin it in my opinion.
@@Keshav-il2hp Horror Games and Movies thats not the case. The killer/demon/whatever evil fuck always kills everyone or survives with a "plot twist" so let's not go there.
Just gonna copy/paste something I wrote in another thread -- I love the twist, I wouldn't change that at all, but I still say that there should have been the option for a good ending. You got it mixed around. All the secret ending does not counting the cat dialogue is explain why Viola in Ellen's body is missing her eyes, legs and can't talk clearly. It shows why there was bags of cat corpses, why this cat talks and follows you around and that Ellen is unnecessarily cruel to squash any sympathy anyone had for her and cement that she is a bad person.
Wow... this explains so much... with the demon cat and when they switch bodies. It's sad, though... it also teaches a lesson. It's good to be kind and helpful and to have compassion, as long as it doesn't make you into a gullible fool. A true friend would never ask you to carry their burdens for them. A real friend would never ask you to take on their pain for them. A real friend will never use you like a tool or as a means to escape their own misfortunes and make them your own. Real friends don't do these things, and if they do, they aren't friends at all, but like Ellen, witches. So, in a way, Viola brought this upon herself. True, she didn;t deserve it, but because she put all of her trust into one little girl without any thought or suspicion, Ellen was able to use her like she did. That's why you should always keep in mind who your friends are and what their intentions for you are. While the people who made this probably didn;t have that message in mind while they made this, that's what this game said to me. I think of it like one of those Book of Virtues stories... be careful of who you put your trust into. Never trust a witch.
No,a true friend wouldn't ask you to take on their pain but because no one loved Ellen and she never had a friend, so she did'nt know what a "friend" was.so she wouldn't know that that's not what friends do.The Black at one point in the game even asks Ellen in Viola's body "I don't know what it is do you know what a friend is?"
@@bibbobella Actually she couldn"t kill her. Witch's only die when they fall into despair, Ellen gave her the medicine so she would feel a great amount of imediate pain. She hoped that this pain would make Viola immediately fall into despair and die.
You can read the manga, its like a prequel before the beginning of the game

So, when the cat says ''I knew you wouldn't need my help'' that actually means that for the one type of ending you must finnish the game without a single save?
Yes and you can’t talk with the cat either. But if it’s your second run it’s very quick. Also in easy mode it’s extremely easy, you just have to have the time to finish in one sitting. For second run half an hour is enough
By the time you make it to Viola she's at death's door and her powers are all but gone. The house reverts to being a normal house and the demonic cat bails out before all this goes down.
Just get the true ending but make sure your last save is before the chase scene save. So make a save before the point of no return, don't save at the chase scene then reload that save after getting the true end and backtrack all the way to the books.
I know you all hate the ending... and so do I. I feel horrible after watching this. Its so unfair! Viola deserves a better ending... But although everyone curses this ending and is sad, thats exactly the reason why you will remember this game forever... You'll never forget this incredibly touching little game made with RPG maker, not by a big developer! You'll always look back at this game and think "damn, that really got me... it was an amazing game and story!" That wouldnt be the case if the ending was happier.
mummumprime x Absolutely! Maybe there will be a sequel some day... or some fan that recreates this story... with a better ending... just so we can remember it happened in some version.
***** Longstryde I thought about it for a while but magic plays a big role in the game why not say she gets a second chance to get her body back with the help of some kind of entity that wants Ellen's soul
The only thing good about this ending is it leaves room for a sequel where the witch finally gets what's coming to her. I really don't think that demon will give up on her soul that easily.
Yes, that would be a good premise to a sequel. Let me explain what i understand seing information: In the end scene Viola soul is eaten by the cat (the devil) that means than when the house revives (to the arrive of a new visitand or witch) she would be a guardian/spirit of the house for all eternity like the normal enemies. That may seen has her doom but in reality is his salvation. Since she is tie to the house she can no longer die for time. Even if Ellen powers are part of her own being she can still learnd how to use magic again properly through the books of the wicth house and considering that she manage to learn to use Ellen own magic against her in the beggining of the game (to Ellen surprice) shorty afther they swicth bodies she wouldn't have any problem in learning the magic of Witch House and use all her magical to empower her still-dismembered form and put all her magical effort to ruin the life of Ellen. (Very probably with a letal curse) I still hoping that someday a sequel is made whit a premise like this one. :)
@WhiteRabbit the violet haired legless girl was the REAL Viola (the good one) but she was tricked by the witch into swapping bodies "for the day" which turned into forever. The reason you play as the witch going back in the house I bcus it is obvious the witch is about to leave (at the start) but Viola the powers that came with the witches power as a last hope to get her body back, and so the witch went back in the house to get the liquid that would get rid of the roses.
In the new ending and the novel prequel the Witch really went back into the house not just out of desire to remove the roses but rather to answer a challenge. The Witch considers herself the true master of the house and despite knowing Viola was going to expire from blood loss anyway returned to challenge her traps as a way of proving superiority. The new ending lets you actually just wait outside till Viola expires and you just leave.
this game left me really sad. I mean holy shit. first Ellen lures viola in by getting her to be kind to her, viola pretty much buys it hook line and sinker. only for this girl to stab her in the back. to top it off Ellen cut her legs off and gouged her eyes out. leaving viola in unprepared agony. then proceeds to lie to viola some more and gives her medicine to burn her throat. it's awful because viola was absolutely ready to do anything for Ellen. now that the roses are gone, the witch couldn't live forever... so now violas souls is now presumably devoured by the cat demon. and the one to execute her? the father of course! I mean I cried like this to one of Ibs endings. and during a particular scene in Death Note. these characters go so far to achieve what they want. and they do it for selfish intentions. but they way they do it? you befriended this girl, stole her body, put her in agonizing pain by leaving her in a body where she was both blind and couldn't move, destroy her immortality, taunt them then proceed to sit back as their family member fucking executes them, and erasing all traces that they ever existed... forever. viola living in agonizing pain is a much happier ending than that. it's because they trusted you, and you tossed them aside as if they were perishables. Ellen didn't see that she was indeed loved by viola. so much so that viola Gave up her body. I guess it's because I myself have been absolutely betrayed by those I considered friends. so this game really punched me in the dick. I wouldn't mind a sequel where the father learns of what happened to the real viola. and then it just goes on to add to the already depressing Factor of this game.
Ellen was jealous of Viola because she was loved, when Ellen wasn't. I pity her s little bit, to be honest. But I pity Viola more, after all. And what hurts me the most is her laugh when they leave Ellen's dead body.
khiannegritz valero I believe Ellen laughed at the end due to being reminded of the 'funny story' from earlier on in the game. In the story, the hunter killed his loyal dog in misunderstanding. Viola's father is a hunter. He killed his own daughter without knowing. That 'funny story' was clear foreshadowing of what would inevitably happen later. It's tragic, not to mention horribly sadistic on Ellen's part.
LNMM I read that earlier, and I got a little upset about it when a morbid laughter rang in my ear as I finished it. But that... THAT HURTS ME. WHY. WHY DID YOU DO THAT.
Because in the beginning of the game there's a rose bush blocking your exit. You literally did everything to get the poison to kill that rose bush. Anything that happened on the way was just working towards that goal.
That wasn't her body it was just a projection. Perhaps a small amount of Viola's power made manifest or manifestations of the memories Viola and Ellen shared when they were "friends."
You notice in a lot of games, books, and movies, the good guy always wins. No matter the odds. I loved the ending of this game, it didn't need a freaking happy ending and it was a great plot twist. The creators don't need to make another ending as that's life. Life isn't always happy and there aren't always happy endings, which this game showed amazingly. The good guys don't always win.
I agree to what you say. This game is perfect as it especially the end *But* in another part, if the creator decide to do a sequel (what i sadly doubt since this type of games usually don't get a sequel, normally because the creator feels that the history is finished) it would be a excellent twist for me that since in this game Viola can't win no matter what because of Ellen plan in a hypotecally sequel the things are a inverse way. Ellen always lose in all endings and Viola get her revenge. It would so a tasty good karmic justice, and a very deserved one. It dosen't need the original game a happy ending because that what make it special and unique and i understand that.but in a countinuation i think it would be amazing, even simbolic see the other side of the coin. Thats my opinion and hopes. I just don't like sad endings (even more the ones where the bad guy win like this one) it feels so unfair, specially for Viola who despite all has enought determination to keep going just to be complety humillated, devastaded, killed to top it all her soul is eaten (a fate worse than death ) meanwhile Ellen get scot-free.
There were two ways it could have ended: Either Viola loses and the witch wins(how the actual game ends), or the opposite, BUT here's the twist - even if Viola managed to defeat the witch by taking control of the house, defeating the witch meant the death of not only the witch, but Viola's original body as well and the time of death doesn't even matter because all of the puzzles would've ended the same way, meaning they would've definitely destroyed Violas body. There's slight hope, that maybe, even without her body, Viola might have thought of something(maybe found a spell or in the worst case, made a contract with the cat demon, which means a witch is born again), but this is a bit of a stretch. In short: Viola was doomed from the beginning. The author could have added the "good" ending, but it meant having to make up how Viola would survive next and it would've complicated things, but if the creator decides to do a continuation of this story, it would be interesting to see the continuation of this hypothesis I proposed. and I can't end this rant without saying that this was one of the most thrilling and shocking games I ever played. The ost and the graphics were just awesome, because they set the right tone for the whole story. The jumpscares were ummm legit jumpscares and yeah, compelling story. 10/10 \o/
I hate the ending, but what irks me even more is the fact that the save system has an explanation in universe as the demon reviving you. HE CAN CHEAT DEATH,BUT CAN'T CURE THE ILLNESS.
I love how taking the knife from the drawer influences ellen`s feelings like , in the first route when she didn`t take tbe knife to stab her she slows down and looks back 4:32 like she feels bad for viola , or when she takes the knife , she giggles when leaving like it was amusing .
I miss an ending where the Viola manages to say "father" and her dad recognizes something is wrong (like, if Ellen watches the scene unfold with a happy smile on her face). I would like him to shoot Ellen instead and hold Viola until she peacefully passes away. That is a "Good" enough Ending for me. Ellen doesn't necessarily need to die from that and is in my mind free to kill Viola's dad if she wants to and walk away peacefully. Maybe throw the demon in here somewhere. That would make Viola's fate a bit more tolerable.

But would you shoot the body of your daughter just because the dying body of a witch is calling you father? You’d probably think the witch is just messing with you
Its really sad that Viola got tricked by Ellen and shotted to death by her own father but its even more depresing that her soul gets eaten by the demon inside the cat. After all Ellen killed people and gave their souls to the demon in order for the demon give Ellen a magic that would cure her illnes. It was a good game, sad but good.
Theres a chance if what i leard is correct. If you're going for a no cat run on top of it then just reload the distraction hallway save right after you get the True Ending. Don't make any other saves. Don't even start a new game.
The story is awesome BUT, the ending is horrible. This is a story i wont be forgetting anytime soon. I just wish they had one more ending where the girl gets her body back... :(
+Soda Sama To make the assertion that a morally good ending would cause you to forget a story would mean that Disney should be bankrupt and defunct (considering that they took stories with terrifying endings and made them 'good')
+Soda Sama True but some can end happily so when the person who has played the game doesn't really feel bad at the end but the twist ending of this game can also give us something that escalates everything xD
It would be nice if there's a part two of the game, being you as "Ellen" in Viola's body, The Demon resurrected Viola, Viola is haunting you for revenge and her father finding the tragic story behind Ellen and her daughter's brutal death. And the endings would be: father killing Ellen, father accepting Ellen and still loves Viola, and Viola failing, but, that would ruin everything. Summing it up, this story is one of a kind...
Viola (actually Ellen): *_(Literally spends the ENTIRE game attempting to escape and avoid death traps within the house)_* Also Viola (Ellen): "After all, it's my house, yes? _It wouldn't be killing me anytime soon."_
no there does not need to be a "happy ever after" ending it would defeat the whole purpose of the amazing plot twist and would make it like almost every other games ending it is perfect just the way it is
Really sad ending, wow :( what a fantastic game, it's just so sad that everyone good or innocent ends up dead. The teddy bear, the frog, the librarian, the flowers, the tadpoles, the female statue with the ring, and of course Viola. What a bloodthirsty, merciless game this is but without a doubt one of my favourites, really really excellent :D
Whoever who made this game, i hate you omg. The true ending made me think alot about the characters, their personality, their background, and even sh*t like Viola's family dynamics. Why would the father shoot a wounded girl? Omg? :(
Mattheau Steele Plus it's not like she could speak, her voice probably sounded like gurgles and growls, adding to the inhuman aspect. If she'd been able to speak, she might have been able to reveal herself as a badly injured human.
You can't start a new game rather you have to not save when the game wants you to before the chase and when you get the true ending reload your last saved game. The easiest way is to complete everything before the point of no return, backtrack to the library, save there then go and beat the game without saving. Reload that save and you're set.
Why isn't there just one ending where the witch loses? Either the player thinks Viola won, but is wrong, or the player knows the witch won. Come on, three endings and none of them are good?
a cool ending to this could have been that Ellen and Viola switch bodies at the last second, because they only agreed to switch for a day, trapping Ellen back in her body.
Too bad that Ellen was too thorough on her way to mutilate her former body. The agreement involving demonic spells like this needs a lot of verbal exchanges and trickery of the participants. Sadly, Viola was too pure. To make the matter worse, her throat was burnt thus cannot speak. That's why she met such tragic end..way too tragic.
Just gonna copy/paste something I wrote in another thread -- I love the twist, I wouldn't change that at all, but I still say that there should have been the option for a good ending. Because the game is like a fairy tale or fable. The world is kind of used to the modern renditions of them made popular by companies like Disney but the actual tales had grim, bitter or even gory endings. They were designed to scare people or kids into watching their back in the world and not being naive because doing so can be fatal.
I don't know if anyone knows this ending, but in the beginning, if you don't move at all for an (hour I think?) The cat will open the path with the roses at the end of the forest and he will let you go free.
that demon cat didn't open the path. but it opens because Viola in the witch body passed on from blood loss. when witch's dead, the rose which blocks the path will disappear.
What a terrible ending for a sweet little girl, it's cruel and it wont make remember how good this game was, Just the sorrow that it caused. It just deeply saddens me to know that she cried out for her daddy in that pain stricken body and he.... No matter what my condition my babygirl was in id recognize her. This brought me to tears.
They swapped body's, so if you saw a random girl claiming to be your daughter while your daughter is right next to you, you would believe the girl claiming to be your daughter after she looks nothing like her?
It seems to me the father was really unjustified in his actions... what good reason did he have for shooting the girl? he had no idea what had been happening, all he knew was that she looked scary. because she was injured. what a monster.
Because you're thinking about it from your own modern perspective instead of from his actual point of view. *You* see a mutilated child with horrifying injuries who needs someone to at least try to save her. *He* sees a corpse-monster crawling toward his daughter, in a forest known to be cursed by a witch that steals children.
Viola's father killed " Ellen " because he knew she was the evil witch who lives inside the woods. It's explained in the novel that people are aware of the existence of a witch and many people tried to kill her, but they failed.
I...sort of found a bit of kindness in Ellen's words as she possessed Ellen, screwed up as it may be, I would in the VERY LEAST want my father to be taken care of if no one else can...
Ah, but I would find her statement questionable. Yes, Ellen says she would give Viola's father Viola's share of love, but that would be on the grounds if Viola's father also returns it. Seeing as Ellen simply murdered her parents because she thought they didn't love her because she was sick--when in actuality Ellen had been possessed by the demon--would make me uneasy at such a comment, one little miss-understanding between Ellen and Viola's father could result in Ellen murdering him in the same fashion. But I understand where you are coming from. On the other hand, being that Viola and her father already have such a good relationship, Ellen may live a normal life and care for Viola's father as Viola would have. Which would definitely ease ones mind if only slightly, since Viola does care for her father so much.
MyCalmInsanity In fairness, Ellen's grounds for murdering her parents was a bit more than "she thought they didn't love her." Ellen's mother was leaving for another man and her father, well, he had some issues. VGPerson has the prequel novel translated on her Tumblr; everything is explained in that.
Aethix Can I just say that if I was seven years old, and had a father you avoided me and a mother who was leaving me for another man, I would believe that all of that was because they didn't love me for some reason or another. Which is the quick point I was trying to get across in my previous comment, since Ellen did make mention that "They didn't love me because I was sick." and "Mom abandoned me." in her diary--or at least something of that general nature.
so if I understand this correctly the first ending is the good ending, ONLY because you don;t find out that Viola and Ella switched and Ella goes home with Violas father. Well you piece that together before you unblock the path of roses anyway, but you don't get that incredibly horrible dialogue from the witch at the end.
It isn’t the endings by themselves. It’s the twisted realization that the way the game is rigged from the start forces you to help an evil body snatcher reach her goal of escaping without options.
DOCTOR!!!! We have a rare case of Good Ending still being sombre!!! At least in the Bad Ending we don't know that Ellen is Viola therefore we can say that the ending in someways is better?
7 years...7 years after i played this game...it still brings tears to my eyes...how someone so cruel would do this so someone who only wanted to help and be their friend...i know its just a game and all but...the endings kept me up at night thinking about it...my friends online were talking about it and all the memories came back to me like a bus..... its a great game with amazing well done design and puzzles, but the end is something you'll always want to forget...sometimes i think i woudlve been better off sticking to the first ending instead of pushing for the challenge...
Manga justifies Ellen's behavior. I mean she's like 400 years old doing nothing but being a tool for Akuma (Black cat and oh boy is he a scary fucker) though honestly I still don't know why she hated Viola. Viola "loved" her (it was pity) but Ellen saw through it and despised her for "not knowing how much she is loved".
@@averageman4873 she didn't believe she was loved after murdering her own parents. it doesn't justify "all" of her actions but damn, i feel really sorry for her. also poor viola. this game hits hard.
@@kaede3723 Alot of people hate Ellen yet like Akuma? Like what? He's the reason the entire story is like this in the first place. The true antagonist.
@@kaede3723 Have you read the novel or manga? I can link it. Manga is significantly better than the novel though Though recently a new side story "The Black Cat's Monologue" was added
So viola was killed by her dad in both endings and the cat eats viola's soul because he is a demon... This has got to be the shittiest ending to a game ever. Hands down...
Is this the ending where you stand still? Because the idea of that ending is Viola died in Ellen's body due to the damage Ellen inflicted. With the "witch" dead the magic that created the roses is gone, and so thus are the roses.
Guys. This doesn't justify what Ellen did, but she had a shitty life. Her way of dealing with it was fucked up, but it's all circumstance. I doubt anyone would be able to do different given all the pain an suffering she went through. The demon gave her an out and she took it. It's like Mary in Ib, she did what she could to be free. Plus, if this game had a happy cheery ending I doubt anyone would remember it. It's because it's sad that you can look back on it and think "damn that was a good game!"
That's all good and fair, so if my life is shitty, whatever the reason, I am "entitled" to fuck your life. Man, that's the rationale of communists and psychopaths, make sure to amend your ways
At least Mary in Ib didn't actually laugh at her friends' death, was not a jerk and was really sad when Ib didn't leave. Remember the time when the gallery killed her in one of the endings? She was crying and calling for Ib, even Garry. Ellen is just a complete monster who manipulated a poor, good-intentioned girl
Good ending Viola narrowly escapes the Witch's House and is reunited with her dad shortly after. He asks if she is alright, and as they are about to leave, the Legless Girl appears and crawls after them. She incoherently tries to communicate with them, but Viola's father panicks and shoots the girl twice, in an effort to protect his daughter. After the girl dies in a pool of blood and vanishes, the two leave the forest. Requirements: To get this ending, successfully leave the house after reading the Witch's Diary. You must not retrieve Ellen's Knife from the cabinet. !This is from the Witch´s House Wiki!
You do know that the witch was actually disguised as Viola to be loved right? Ellen *the witch* traded bodies with Viola so now Viola is the witch and the witch is Viola. Viola died. You are playing the witch the whole time. The witch( Who is disguised as Viola) tricked the real Viola *who is now in the witches body* to trade their bodies so the witch can be loved. So Viola *who is disguised as the witch i think u get get now* traps the real witch in the fake Violas house *the witch's house* hoping to get her body back. At the end the father dosent believe that the fake witch is her daughter and kills her which kills the real Viola. THAT IS NOT A GOOD ENDING VIOLA IS DEAD AND THE WITCH LIVES!
In other words to Marisa "Ellen the witch" is all lyke " wwaaaa waaaaaaaaawaa " so the violin girl is sad and she says I will trade bodies with you or wht ever and basically the witch is violin and violin is the witch but wayyyyy weaker.
I did the same. Basically, you were actually playing as the witch the whole time. The witch (Ellen) needed someone who was close to them to be fed to the demon (the cats) in order to swap bodies with that person, because she had an illness that was killing her. So she took her "friend" Viola's body, but when the witch tried to leave the roses were in the way, which is why she goes back. In all the endings the witch stays in her body, but the player might not realise that if they got the 1st one.
Well, Ellen in Viola's body will still feel great pain. At the end, it is her body, it was her misfortune, her downfall. Switching bodies will not make the pain go away, it will just soothe your wimpers and despair, but that body was yours, and it will remain yours because, the day tells, it is your misery and grief and it will forever be your misfortune. I think this is portraying a very strong message. Indeed, you can be sweet and caring and show sympathy towards others, but let this not make you gullible, people will do such wrong. A friend will not switch bodies just because of their misfortune, we are the ones not at fault for having a life, whether if it is great or terrible. We were just born, unknowing who we were going to be. This makes me very upset because instead of trying to make a better life for herself by doing it, naturally. She instead, turned to the demon cat while the cat promised her good life and fortunes if she killed others. How wicked, I show no sympathy for her, even if she aches in such wounded body, she did not take an advantage for herself to make her life better but to turn to wickedness to improve her living...so sinful.
there's another secret ending basically, it explains that Viola only had an hour to live inside of Ellen's body. When you load up the game, just... leave it there. Don't move, don't do anything, but keep the window open above everything else, for an hour. After that, everything will return to normal, and Ellen will leave. The cat will bother her a few times, but thats all
I came from Markiplier ' s play through because I HAD to know everything. I'm glad I found your page, I subbed. I'm looking forward to binging on your content :)
The sad thing about this... Ellen didn't really want to be friend with Viola, she only needs the friendship bond so she can casts the switch-body spell (Even if she did, in the end her survival [with betrayal] is more important than die [with being loved]). "Unlike charms cast on oneself, it is not easy to cast spell involving two people. This is because the target of the spell needs to have sincere consent. Thus, a bond of trust must be built for spell of this type to succeed." 1:51 -- 1:59. They're not a friend at all. . ... it's already 6 years and I still comment this. I blamed Cry.
Could you make the 4th ending? In order to get it you have to not move in the beginning for one hour and then Viola in Ellen's body will die. I just want to see because no one has done it.
Don't forget the fact that her father knew about, and apparently believed the rumours of a witch. Without really knowing what a witch really looked like, and being already hyped up with fear shot her. It probably looked like a reanimated corpse of some sort, really.
I get that in reality, the good guy doesn't always win, and we have to accept that, but the whole point of experiencing works of fiction is to ease the pain of any troubles we may have in reality, and possibly inspire and encourage us. There's a fine line between drama and disturbing, and this is just disgusting. This recurring theme of character torture, especially characters that were innocent in the first place/had no reason to be tortured, is what makes audiences turn away.
Lots of authors made the same case quite a long time ago: that fiction should use poetic justice, where the heroes win in fiction as it is not so in reality. However, I still LOVE this game, including the bad ending. It is not completely satisfying and has a sense of tragedy. But that means that you cannot ever completely forget the story and it's ending. Character torture of those who are innocent is just the kind of thing that occurs in the gothic genre :/
LilChibi I can respect that, and I understand that some fans/authors involved in the Horror genre want it to go beyond cliches, but it doesn't change the fact that stories like this are excessively disturbing and possibly damaging on a psychological level. Also, I hate to say it, but I find themes similar to this in a number of anime plotlines, which might explain why the genre in general has a shaky reputation with critics.
oh wait so basically... ellen was always in violas body? Ellen was always the witch? if that's true that means this game was so unnecessary because if ellen knew she was never going to give viola her body back why would she even return to the house and get in all that trouble. she could have left viola ,in the body that was messed up, in the house to die with the body..... correct?
Ellen is sadistic and has a certain level of pride. The novel goes into this characterization a bit more, to her going back in and reclaiming her house is like a game she wants to win to prove she's the only master.
Hannah Glassman Not necessarily, beyond V1.07, if you wait in the start scene(moving and talking to the cat is okay, changing scene will mess up) for over an hour, you automatically enter the ending scene where the roses just collapse and Ellen walk home in Viola's body by herself. You have to make the game window active for it to count though.
Doka potters Well Ellen did murder every "friend" that visited her, the bear was a gift from one of them, if not Viola. So...a revenge now Ellen is no longer Majou?
Wait. I'm confused... Are the true ending (the best one in my opinion) and the secret ending exactly the same? Cause i didn't notice that much of a difference, putting apart the dead cat and what was written by Ellen in her diary...
+Luca Madguys They are exactly the same, except for the information written in the diary in Ellen's room and the little scene with the cat telling Viola (Ellen) that she clearly didn't need him.
Burakku Jisatsu-tai *Gives you several boxes of girl scout cookies* Lucky for me, they were selling cookies next door. I showed them this anime (especially the bloody parts) and they ran away screaming. Fortunately, they dropped a few boxes >=D.
I can take it a step darker.... in the normal ending Ellen/Viola just vanishes. However, in the TRUE ending, when you realize that Ellen promised more souls to the demon for the power to switch bodies, and since you know the cat is the demon, after the father shoots Ellen's body/Viola and they walk away, the cat/demon walks up and THEN the body vanishes, and then the cat. Ellen kept her promise, and the demon ate Viola's soul. Now THAT'S f*cked up!
The funny thing is, there is the Touhou character name Ellen, even if I replied you 10 years ago. She was in PC-98 era. ... Also, I didn't put up notification. I might not be able to reply you anymore.
So, a thing I found. There are apparently two versions of the game. At first I thought this was the newer one, but now I think not since Mediafire says "104", as in 1.04, while on VGperson's site it is "1.06". Not too many changes, but the main room at the beginning of the game is different, and so is Ellen's game over scene. I'm pretty sure some of the books are different too. Happy I found the other version too, with the mediafire link. =D
Ellen thought she's win afterall but no... she is the cat's toy all the time. I'll assume that after Ellen win and go back to Viola's house, have a wonderful life... and then she fk WOKE UP (the cat makes she dream or smth) and saw the cat beside her when feels the familiar pain in the familiar body coming.... and the cat told her it plays her all the time cause he's so bored of her, made her die in betrayal and hopeless. After that, it wanted to make Viola the new witch but her father arrived on time (the time now is the game endscene) and shot the sh*t out of it to protect his daughter. And... happy ending.
so you're telling me that in all 3 ending of basically Slaughter House we realize that WE are playing as the bad guy surviving in the BAD GUY'S OWN HOUSE but we used ginyu body switch technique on a normal child who then had to endure blindness due to lack of eyes and crippledness that OUT CHARACTER DID TO THEMSELVES JUST SO THAT WHEN THEY SWITCHED BODIES THE PERSON GETTING HER BODY WOULD BE IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN WHILE OUR CHARACTER GETS TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE DESPITE WORKING WITH DEMONS AND RUINING THE LIFE OF SOME RANDOM GIRL SHE PROBABLY BARELY EVEN KNOWS. thats on a whole other level of fucked up man. you cant....you cant do that.
It's amezing how they made the true ending; You maybe dislike the knife ending but you can't get it out of your head. You keep thinking about poor Viola and evil Ellen. Every gamer his/her reaction of the end of this game. It is amezing how people get shocked by it . Just love it!
If you check that wardrobe in the beginning it says something like “check me when the house changes” so it’s not impossible to think of it by yourself (no shame I didn’t remember either lol)
At 3:33 if you watch the monster very closely you could see that it moves back when Viola's dad yelled "VIOLA STAY BACK" so it is the real Viola... *Cries*
I'll remember this when i meet someone that fully fit that description
😂 but 😭 at the same time
That is not actually completely true.
@@zachbahamutson5477 😵💫👍
than what's the fuck is the life lesson of this game than
It always kills me inside when Viola in Ellen's body tried to say "dad" and "father" when her dad shows up. Buuuut then she got shot. Twice.
+Emily Phoenix My eyes were covered in tears when I watched the ending
+Emily Phoenix just adding, when the father yelled, "STAY BACK, VIOLA." Look who stepped back. She still listens to her father, even in that state.
Yo I think she even tried to say "Daddy" which actually made me really sad, like imagine if Viola's Dad would have known, imagine how he would have felt to see his baby girl suffering and seeing her try struggling to get to him in hopes her father would save her
Did anyone else notice that when the father said "Viola, stand back." To the fake Viola (Ellen) the real Viola moved back a little herself?
COME ON THAT DETAIL IS DEPRESSING
She probably though for a millisecond that her father was going to help her, or at least had that feeling ;___;
Yeah...
***** as a matter of fact, she did.
in the book it clearly tells that ellen('s body) has the power to see everything that happens inside the forest and command it to lure people inside the house.
yoster39 He also said "Stay away monster" not get back.
kyoxtohru112 In the Good Ending he told Viola to stand back. In the other endings he said "Stay away monster".
Forgot 1 ending: if you do literally nothing when you start a new game, after an hour "Viola" just walks off and the game ends. (I assume this is because the "witch's" body wouldn't last too long so it expired after an hour and with it, the roses.)
Ah, so there _is_ one possible good ending. This warms my heart.
icecubewarning
Actually no, the body swap happened before the game starts, so really Ellen gets away with Viola's body no matter what ending you get. The only time we'll get a good ending is if Fummy is merciful enough to add one. Or a sequel where Viola gets her body back.
That seems to make a lot more sense than going through a trap filled house :L
@@PrismOpal64 The Witch's House 2 : Viola gets her bod back
Wow
When Viola tries to say daddy it just breaks my heart...

I think ellen is gonna tell him befor he die in bed...

So the "Game Over" thing is actually a good thing maybe?
VinKe ST yeah...
@@enclinker7951 I know I'm late, what about the game over sequence when Viola in Ellen's body catches fake Viola, that is justified isn't it?
Agreed!
Or maybe an ending that the kitty(soul devouring DEMON) could turn Viola into a witch and open a revenge sequence game since Ellen kinda just left before the contract was completed
Ash Ketchum no ash, no.
Ellen Drevis
You don't another game? geez I thought it was good
Ash Ketchum the game is complete, if you didn't know the contract was completed that is the point, Ellen is 'cured' of her disease so the witch got what she wanted, the demon wanted souls UNTIL Ellen got better.
Doubt this gonna make much of a difference
(Her sick body)
This is supported by what happened in the novel. When Ellen asks the cat for a friend and a kid shows up, they end up getting along pretty well (Ellen's ill body was hidden with magic)
Ellen was feeling better, but when the kid saw Ellen's true form, the kid ran away calling her monster. From this time on, Ellen knew she wouldn't be loved unless she finds a cure for her illness. The search for the cure turned her into a merciless murderer.
Wait guys, theres a forth happier ending! Its called "Game Over" and its really easy to get! All you have to do is die by the legless girl at the end!
That wouldn't have helped, because the demon (cat) always revives Ellen, anyway.

@@ember-brandtunlikely, because the demon seems to behave like a well-liked businessman, "its not good for business to betray his previous contractor after he got what he wanted" that type of businessman
Nice
Speaking of foreshadowing.... there was that first puzzle, where you had to "save the butterfly" by switching the yellow butterfly with the blue model (yellow probably for Viola's blond hair, and blue for Ellen's purplish hair).
Not to mention where outside the house, there was a "towering, lush tree" right beside a withering one.
Wait, what's the difference between the secret and true endings?
Maggie Payne The Witch's Diary.
And the cat's dialogue
Dont forget the story about the hunter and the rich man
There's several such foreshadowings.
SPOILERS:
After an hour is allocated, after not touching anything, you see Viola (Ellen) walking up to the rose bushes, only to see the rose bushes dissappear.
Then Viola leaves the area without entering the house, and the game ends.
Why?
Because one of the books said that "If the Witch dies, so does her magic."
Who put the rose bushes?
Viola in Ellen's body, right?
If you haven't guessed it yet, the TRUE ending after being afk for an hour tells you this:
Viola (Ellen) stayed outside until Ellen (Viola) painfully succumbed to the wounds and have died, thus making the rose bushes dissappear.
Big Brain to the one who found this ending
no, i am NOT GOING to play this game. this 2021 made me play alot of horrifying games. i am not going to play it for the sake of this ending
It's just sad that no matter what ending it is, Viola always dies. This reminds me of an episode in Adventure Time, the one with Magic Man.
That ending makes me wonder something.
If Viola died within the house, and thus disappeared alongside it; wouldn't the demon be angry at Ellen for not helping him consume Viola's soul?
I wish that their was an ending where the real viola (inside Ellen's body) gets to switch bodies and go home with her father

"So then I gave you medicine... ...A throat-burning medicine." ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME ELLEN?!
IF IT BURNS YOUR THROAT ITS NOT MEDICINE!!! :P
Could have just as easily killed the poor girl then and there but nooo lets make her suffer a bit longer.
@@bibbobella Actually she couldn"t kill her. Witch's only die when they fall into despair, Ellen gave her the medicine so she would feel a great amount of imediate pain. She hoped that this pain would make Viola immediately fall into despair and die.
Ellen confirmed Karen?
You can read the manga, its like a prequel before the beginning of the game
So, when the cat says ''I knew you wouldn't need my help'' that actually means that for the one type of ending you must finnish the game without a single save?
+Yebiggah Ćoeće ye
+Yebiggah Yeah! I made it once :D
Longstryde I see your point still pisses me off though
mummumprime x
Absolutely! Maybe there will be a sequel some day... or some fan that recreates this story... with a better ending... just so we can remember it happened in some version.
Longstryde That would be difficult since Viola dies in the end
***** Longstryde I thought about it for a while but magic plays a big role in the game why not say she gets a second chance to get her body back with the help of some kind of entity that wants Ellen's soul
***** She's not that kind of witch though also that Anime was depressing in my opinion
The only thing good about this ending is it leaves room for a sequel where the witch finally gets what's coming to her. I really don't think that demon will give up on her soul that easily.
Cit.
Yes, that would be a good premise to a sequel.
Let me explain what i understand seing information:
In the end scene Viola soul is eaten by the cat (the devil) that means than when the house revives (to the arrive of a new visitand or witch) she would be a guardian/spirit of the house for all eternity like the normal enemies. (Very probably with a letal curse)
I still hoping that someday a sequel is made whit a premise like this one. :)
7 years and we ain't got nata
ManlyBadassHero There's a novel?
ManlyBadassHero I want that book!
+unknownguns ellens knife has magic in it
But the violet haired legless girl is Ellen
this game left me really sad.
I wouldn't mind a sequel where the father learns of what happened to the real viola. and then it just goes on to add to the already depressing Factor of this game.
hmm.. yeah..
Asriel Dreemurr Sadly, it seems that there are no plans for a sequel. So probably there will be not justice for poor Viola...
All of my friends betrayed me. And that's why I wanna say, "You guys are damn witches, motherfuckers!!" ( To my 'so called' Friends )
Asriel Dreemurr which Ib ending because not to many of them are really sad...? Also, love your profile pic
Love you~!
Ellen was jealous of Viola because she was loved, when Ellen wasn't. I pity her s little bit, to be honest. But I pity Viola more, after all. And what hurts me the most is her laugh when they leave Ellen's dead body.
I think she just giggle at the end because she now have a new father!! Have you guys read the book of diary of Ellen? If not search it in google
Fail if you go and get ellens knife you will learn that ellen is viola and viola is ellen
So really ellen laughs at viola's dead body
khiannegritz valero I believe Ellen laughed at the end due to being reminded of the 'funny story' from earlier on in the game.
Ash Trancy they make it because they know that kids play/read/watch it, and the creators know what really happened. This game isnt really a kids game.
Even the "happy" ending is just a horrible ending that is missing some information. At the end, there is only One ending.
Ash Trancy More like not everyone gets what they want.
Sad :(
I agree to what you say.
This game is perfect as it especially the end
*But* in another part, if the creator decide to do a sequel (what i sadly doubt since this type of games usually don't get a sequel, normally because the creator feels that the history is finished) it would be a excellent twist for me that since in this game Viola can't win no matter what because of Ellen plan in a hypotecally sequel the things are a inverse way.
I just don't like sad endings (even more the ones where the bad guy win like this one) it feels so unfair, specially for Viola who despite all has enought determination to keep going just to be complety humillated, devastaded, killed to top it all
her soul is eaten (a fate worse than death
) meanwhile Ellen get scot-free.
15:40 Interesting, there's no unsettling music for that chase, in a way, since you know everything, there's nothing to fear.
There were two ways it could have ended:
Either Viola loses and the witch wins(how the actual game ends), or the opposite, BUT
here's the twist - even if Viola managed to defeat the witch by taking control of the house, defeating the witch meant the death of not only the witch, but Viola's original body as well and the time of death doesn't even matter because all of the puzzles would've ended the same way, meaning they would've definitely destroyed Violas body.
+not panda Man, stumbled upon this video again and lol my comment is still here. My writing skills were so bad at that time.
What if a mysterious entity revives Viola so it can get revenge on Ellen.
Many years passed this ending still haunts me whenever i think about it, thats how good the game is
I hate the ending, but what irks me even more is the fact that the save system has an explanation in universe as the demon reviving you. HE CAN CHEAT DEATH,BUT CAN'T CURE THE ILLNESS.
He’s a demon what do you expect?
Rather, he has no incentive to cure the illness.

agidyne967 If there was one more ending where she gets her body back, you would forget about the story.
+Soda Sama To make the assertion that a morally good ending would cause you to forget a story would mean that Disney should be bankrupt and defunct (considering that they took stories with terrifying endings and made them 'good')
Kai Hell-Sky Disney movies are literally made to end well while this is a horror game. Your point is?
memorable stories was my point.
Viola (actually Ellen): *_(Literally spends the ENTIRE game attempting to escape and avoid death traps within the house)_*
Also Viola (Ellen): "After all, it's my house, yes? _It wouldn't be killing me anytime soon."_
Viola's Dad “Viola, stand back!”
Legless Girl is also stand back…
because she thinks her father calls him
She can't *stand* back, she's legless
@@ArthurKhazbs -___- You get the idea.
No matter how many times I play this game its endings always get me chocked up. It is such a perfect plot twist, reminds me a little bit of Tsubasa.
no there does not need to be a "happy ever after" ending it would defeat the whole purpose of the amazing plot twist and would make it like almost every other games ending it is perfect just the way it is
Agree
nah it needs a better ending the fact you say this makes you a demonic emo ima guess you cut lol
+Four Lord hahaha dude I do it all the time how did you know??? I cut so much all day every day

Very good point! I never realized that.
Whoever who made this game, i hate you omg. The true ending made me think alot about the characters, their personality, their background, and even sh*t like Viola's family dynamics. Why would the father shoot a wounded girl? Omg? :(
*****
yea i guess she did look like one. man, im so sad ;(
Mattheau Steele Plus it's not like she could speak, her voice probably sounded like gurgles and growls, adding to the inhuman aspect. If she'd been able to speak, she might have been able to reveal herself as a badly injured human.
Elizabeth Lawrence She blinked sometimes, one eye was left.
I was expecting even more on that ending... like Ellen in Viola's Body stabbing her dad and then leave him dying too.
Mighty Shark no, the eyelid was left to blink.
I was so confused on the good ending.... I was hoping it meant that Viola truly escaped but I'm just not sure..... :(
The body swap happened before the game started. Viola is doomed no matter what...
Shawn Hetherly would have been great if she somehow managed to get her body switched back but theres no logical way that could happen B(
I know. No way it could have happened, short of the demon betraying the witch.
poor viola
such a naive girl, given a punishment a thousand times worse than she deserved
a cool ending to this could have been that Ellen and Viola switch bodies at the last second, because they only agreed to switch for a day, trapping Ellen back in her body.
ooh, yeah that would be cool! (And that cruel bitch would get what she deserves)
So....the good ending is letting Viola catch you, I see.
Because the game is like a fairy tale or fable. The world is kind of used to the modern renditions of them made popular by companies like Disney but the actual tales had grim, bitter or even gory endings. They were designed to scare people or kids into watching their back in the world and not being naive because doing so can be fatal.
Many years later and this still has to be the most depressing ending I’ve seen to date in any horror game.
I don't know if anyone knows this ending, but in the beginning, if you don't move at all for an (hour I think?) The cat will open the path with the roses at the end of the forest and he will let you go free.
Then what happen to Viola in Ellen body ?
Nothing, the cat will let you go,and ellen(in violas body) will just walk away.
that demon cat didn't open the path. but it opens because Viola in the witch body passed on from blood loss.
when witch's dead, the rose which blocks the path will disappear.
Ohhhhh OK! Thank you for finishing the explanation!
no problem
What a terrible ending for a sweet little girl, it's cruel and it wont make remember how good this game was, Just the sorrow that it caused. It just deeply saddens me to know that she cried out for her daddy in that pain stricken body and he....
No matter what my condition my babygirl was in id recognize her. This brought me to tears.
They swapped body's, so if you saw a random girl claiming to be your daughter while your daughter is right next to you, you would believe the girl claiming to be your daughter after she looks nothing like her?
Ask the "Daughter" (fake) a personal question. Three. if she answers them wrong then you have your answer.
+Mew mew Only mistake on that thought: A part of Viola's memories stayed in her body.
He though his daughter was getting attacked, he wanted to protect his "child".
+FT WES
Honestly? I might. I’d hafta take the other girl in and test the two of them, but if I got enough of a hunch from the start...
The first puzzle kind of makes a foreshadowing: "Viola" needs to cut the bear's body in half (like Ellen's body) so it fits in the basket...
The ending gives me awful goosebumps every time. It’s the best twist ending I’ve ever seen in any game ever.
MyCalmInsanity
In fairness, Ellen's grounds for murdering her parents was a bit more than "she thought they didn't love her." Ellen's mother was leaving for another man and her father, well, he had some issues.
In the beginning of Ending 3 the cat is alive and the book is different.
Both endings are bad
Just gonna copy/paste something I wrote in another thread -- I love the twist, I wouldn't change that at all, but I still say that there should have been the option for a good ending. It isn’t the endings by themselves. It’s the twisted realization that the way the game is rigged from the start forces you to help an evil body snatcher reach her goal of escaping without options.
DOCTOR!!!! We have a rare case of Good Ending still being sombre!!!
At least in the Bad Ending we don't know that Ellen is Viola therefore we can say that the ending in someways is better?
everygameguy if you know the other endings it's the same thing, i guess? xd because you it's still ellen inside viola's body xd
Rafael Morais I meant if you played the Bad End first
everygameguy well in that case i think it's ok.. but u will live in ignorance xd

oh wait,wrong game
Ellen takes and remains in Viola's body. Viola in contrast remains and dies in Ellen's.

There is another ending: The Blank Ending.
In this ending Viola gets her body back and runs away.

Believe my word. Go to The Witch's House wikia and search for the endings
Is this the ending where you stand still? Because the idea of that ending is Viola died in Ellen's body due to the damage Ellen inflicted. With the "witch" dead the magic that created the roses is gone, and so thus are the roses.
TC_Gary
Yes, it is that ending. Then I was wrong all along o-o Thank you for telling me.
your name make me worried to believe you
Sachiko Shinozaki how to get that ending??
People remember ib
That's all good and fair, so if my life is shitty, whatever the reason, I am "entitled" to fuck your life. Man, that's the rationale of communists and psychopaths, make sure to amend your ways
At least Mary in Ib didn't actually laugh at her friends' death, was not a jerk and was really sad when Ib didn't leave. Remember the time when the gallery killed her in one of the endings? She was crying and calling for Ib, even Garry.
Ellen is just a complete monster who manipulated a poor, good-intentioned girl
@@imacommentator i think you’re referring to the “sacrifice” ending, but it was fanmade
@@alessiapalma8823 No. I was referring to "Painting's demise", I clearly remember her calling out for all her comrades
Good ending
Viola narrowly escapes the Witch's House and is reunited with her dad shortly after.
Requirements:
To get this ending, successfully leave the house after reading the Witch's Diary.

The endings are so twisted that when I saw the complete one I felt bad, almost guilty, for helping the witch out
I did the same.
There's another ending now, if you wait for an hour, not moving or pressing any keys, the cat will leave and you can go through the big rosé patch.
there's another secret ending
basically, it explains that Viola only had an hour to live inside of Ellen's body.
When you load up the game, just... leave it there. Don't move, don't do anything, but keep the window open above everything else, for an hour. After that, everything will return to normal, and Ellen will leave. The cat will bother her a few times, but thats all
Name change from black cat to demon at 14:04
Yep because it was a demon who took over the cat's body......the cat was already dead.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why we burn witches...
Headless Horseman Too bad the real life counter part involves innocent women , brainwashed people and no actual witches at all.
Another example of *every day, we stray further from God*
@Gayboi Writer be better
I came from Markiplier ' s play through because I HAD to know everything. I'm glad I found your page, I subbed. I'm looking forward to binging on your content :)
same here xD
Ellen: I just wanted to be loved...
Viola: I love you!
Ellen: Who?
Viola: Me!
Ellen: Asked.
ten yearrrrssss! good job pal and now you have a perfect empty soul
This story is truly a tragedy.
oh wait so basically... ellen was always in violas body? Ellen was always the witch? if that's true that means this game was so unnecessary because if ellen knew she was never going to give viola her body back why would she even return to the house and get in all that trouble. she could have left viola ,in the body that was messed up, in the house to die with the body..... correct?
Ellen is sadistic and has a certain level of pride. The novel goes into this characterization a bit more, to her going back in and reclaiming her house is like a game she wants to win to prove she's the only master.
Paris Amerie Gutierrez ellen had to go back to get the medicine to kill the roses blocking her path I believe.
That's because if you chose to wait that long, Viola dies in Ellen's body from blood loss, and the flowers die with the rest of her magic.
Doka potters
Well Ellen did murder every "friend" that visited her, the bear was a gift from one of them, if not Viola. So...a revenge now Ellen is no longer Majou?
Wait. I'm confused...
Are the true ending (the best one in my opinion) and the secret ending exactly the same?
Cause i didn't notice that much of a difference, putting apart the dead cat and what was written by Ellen in her diary...
Me too, I don't get it
+Luca Madguys They are exactly the same, except for the information written in the diary in Ellen's room and the little scene with the cat telling Viola (Ellen) that she clearly didn't need him.
If you stay afk for long enough, the rose wall will disappear because the "real" witch will just die in the mansion.
I know I'm supposed to feel sad for Viola, but all I'm thinking right now is how Ellen sort of looks likes Hanyuu Furude from Higurashi XD.
yes!! I totally see that!
You called, m8? ;3
Burakku Jisatsu-tai Please don't kill me, Hanyuu-sama. D=
***** Hmm... Oy!
Maybe we can work something out >:]
Give me your cookies! I am God!
Burakku Jisatsu-tai *Gives you several boxes of girl scout cookies*
Lucky for me, they were selling cookies next door.
Ellen would make an awesome Touhou boss
I only imagine when Ellen turns back to herself and then the father realizes she killed her own daughter and viola becames herself-
that wont happen
Uh what? Lmao sorry dude face the reality. Viola is a dreg now.
I need this thank you
so you're telling me that in all 3 ending of basically Slaughter House we realize that WE are playing as the bad guy surviving in the BAD GUY'S OWN HOUSE but we used ginyu body switch technique on a normal child who then had to endure blindness due to lack of eyes and crippledness that OUT CHARACTER DID TO THEMSELVES JUST SO THAT WHEN THEY SWITCHED BODIES THE PERSON GETTING HER BODY WOULD BE IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN WHILE OUR CHARACTER GETS TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE DESPITE WORKING WITH DEMONS AND RUINING THE LIFE OF SOME RANDOM GIRL SHE PROBABLY BARELY EVEN KNOWS.
thats on a whole other level of fucked up man. you cant....you cant do that.
This is. . . . what EVIL is.
Ikr😢
It's amezing how they made the true ending; You maybe dislike the knife ending but you can't get it out of your head. You keep thinking about poor Viola and evil Ellen. Every gamer his/her reaction of the end of this game. It is amezing how people get shocked by it . Just love it!
If you check that wardrobe in the beginning it says something like “check me when the house changes” so it’s not impossible to think of it by yourself (no shame I didn’t remember either lol)
He will never even notice that he killed his own baby girl.
If a witch is a human who gave their soul to a demon, what does that make Ciel?
+Pixelmon Glitches a wizard :3
+Springygirl_Gaming *dies
At 3:33 if you watch the monster very closely you could see that it moves back when Viola's dad yelled "VIOLA STAY BACK" so it is the real Viola...
*Cries*
True ending and secret ending was just heartbreaking. :(
So there's no good ending after all. I feel really bad for Viola.
