      Still crazy it’s the only one with a custom lift structure.
      I haven’t been to many theme parks at all, but I think I can confidently say this is one of the prettiest coasters even built. The lift structure with the moving cogs, the bell when the train is near the crest, the white women singing down below…

    here is another reason: It's a ride that can make a Helix feel forceful. Fenix in the front left seat gives a really strange feeling that "too free to be safe" because you're quite high up in the air with nothing in front of you.

    • @Soonjai
      @Soonjai 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The Helix on Fenix is brutal when it comes to sustained, high positives. I prefer the right outer seat though as it is so low to the ground for such a long time that it makes you nervous that your feet will hit something.

    • @carysage
      @carysage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmmm, Gatekeeper has the most pointless helix I've ridden. Right up there with Gemini. I'd take the helix on Shivering Timbers over any steel helix out there.

    I think the wing coasters are Newest Looping models from B&M.
    I mean, Why would the parks buy Arrow loopers if there is B&m sitdown(besides of the budget)
    And why would they buy B&M sitdown or standups if there is Floorless coasters?
    So the wing coasters are likely the newest models for the 'looping coaster' market(partially including the inverted models)- I think that's why its really popular

    • @bocahdongo7769
      @bocahdongo7769 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They can, like make a dive coaster a looping...
      Wait, dive coaster is also looping coaster. So here we go, the example long lasting looper model of B&M. Or better yet, we can remove the dive part and just straight up launching it with LSM, and we can called it "B&M Soarer". Like disney Soarin, but not simulator

    Whilst I agree that winged coasters are forceful experiences, they're not too intense. This is great for people who can't really deal with the more intense rides, or kids who are looking for their first big coaster. It looks intimidating on the surface but the actual ride is just pure fun.

  • @mikewalker4950
    @mikewalker4950 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They are also on of the few B&Ms that will go far negative. The hang time elements can approach an hit -1 g's. Nothing else does that on a B&M, everything else is pretty much limited to -.7. They are also decently forceful on the postives, getting well into the 4's. While they are graceful and bigger elements, missing that sense of whip, the higher forces than norm make up for it.

  • @SolarisMusic
    @SolarisMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I'm actually kind of curious what you mean when you say other rides are hard to theme, because it seems like a lot of these elements (aside from the near miss) would be doable even for other kinds of coasters.

    • @jarmoliebrand2005
      @jarmoliebrand2005 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True. Dives often have underground drops. Certain CGI’s can have station flythroughs and Lech Coaster has that corkscrew in the station. Inverted coasters offer feetchoppers.
      I think the Wing model just lends itself especially well for near miss elements. And being next to the track grants different ways of executing such elements

    When I first saw B&M’s Wing Coaster model back in late 2011, I was amazed and thought that one day my home park Six Flags Great Adventure would get one.
    I still do nowadays, and I believe that a B&M Wing could’ve been a perfect replacement for Great American Scream Machine, and that I feel cheated by getting a relocated Stand-up instead. I really home one day Green Lantern is sent to another Six Flags park and converted into a Floorless, after which, a B&M Wing is built on the spot it currently sits on now.

Haven't ridden many coasters but got to ride Wild Eagle recently and was a bit underwhelmed at first (especially after riding LRod) until I rode it again in the front seat. most European parks invest to theme most of their coasters, even b&m
    I think the reason the don't have that much theming in other countrys is because they are great filler rides, if that floor less in fiesta Taxes was in Europe, it would be one of the best coasters in that country due to its likely high theming and uniqueness

    It annoys me that often just GP love wing coasters and enthusiasts do not. As an enthusiast I have to say that I consider them extremely underrated. Its my 2nd favourite B&M Model (behind the Giga/Hyper), which is because of the various forces and experiences you get on a wing coaster ride. There are positives, floater, hangtime, near misses and in general cool inversions, which I love much more than just get crushed with positives the whole ride (like on most B&M models)

    Honestly they are just a fun ride, Although not as intense or long, or fast as others but the model is fun and very re-ridable. I have never gotten off of a winged coaster and said man that was a waste of time. I can think of many coasters where I have said that before but never a winged coaster. This coaster model checks all my boxes for sure.... Enjoyable, smooth (no head banging or uncomfortable transitions, old arrow) easy to marathon, comfortable to ride, and normally has a good setting or theming, at least the near misses.

    Gardaland is my home park and I've ridden Raptor like a hundred times. It's not forceful at all, it has some nice floater on the first drop (in the back) and some very nice hangtime on the inversions, but that's not about it. People complain about them being forceless, completely ignoring that they're not meant to crush you with positives or throw you with ejector.
    Wing Coasters are all about the experience. That's why I think Raptor is one of the best, because it surely is one of the best themed. I've ridden it a lot of times, and still manages to "scare me" with all the foot choppers and pieces of scenery you almost can touch. It's just a fun and graceful experience, you really feel like you're flying two feets away from the ground, and that's why the GPs love it.
    Imo, the problem with the american Wings (in contrast to the european or asian ones) is that they barely have any theming. And Wing Coasters desperately require some theming to be fully appreciated.

  • @noname117spore
    @noname117spore 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Honestly wings can pull some good positive Gs. Not too intense like you could find on some Intamins, but still to a similar level as their stronger inverts. The wing seats when combined with rolls or twists can act as lever-arms as well, providing an extra force of positive or negative gs on the rider due to the rotation. Next time you ride one with an inline twist get 2 rides, each on opposite sides of the train, and see how the force on your body changes. I guess that's another reason as well; trying out both sides of the train in addition to the normal front/back comparison. There's 4 ideal seats to try on a wing rather than 1-2 on normal coasters.
    Honestly wing coasters are underrated. For both parks with an RMC Topper (ok one isn't fully topper anymore) and a wing coaster I've found both experiences of comparable quality, although something like an RMC I-Box would blow either out of the water.

    0:06 I hate to break it to you, but...
    B&M built a total of 32 inverted coasters.
    Vekoma built a total of 42 SLCs and 29 SFCs.
    That’s more than twice as many as B&M...

      B&Ms are universally popular though. Universal Studios (pun not intended) completely got Hulk rebuilt exactly the same as it was; never seen other parks do that with other manufacturers. Old-school Vekomas aren't as universally loved.
      Edit: Although can't say B&M has a monopoly though. If that's what you meant, then my bad, and I agree

      And more Toyota Priuses have been sold than McLaren P1s...

    I think wing coasters also just feel unique while riding, a bit like you’re actually flying. They mostly aren brutal G-Force machines, they feel more like an elegant flight with some intense moments.

    Wing coasters are super fun, and I’d love to see one in Florida! They’re fun crowd pleasers! I absolutely loved Wild Eagle in the front row, especially. So much fun!

    On the topic of wing coaster near misses, one of my favourite roller coaster marketing campaigns is when Thorpe Park shared a photo before The Swarm opened of dummies returning from going on it with hands and legs missing even though they just took the limbs off themselves lmao
