I’ve had the bizarre opportunity to ride Maverick and VelociCoaster within a day of each other and I think VelociCoaster is better in literally every way. I love Maverick and it’s my second favorite launch coaster, but VelociCoaster is just the best and since I rode the rides literally one after another, I have no recency bias. You definitely must ride it some day.
@@bandoballerina Every transition slams my head into the restraint. And it’s because it isn’t heartlined AT ALL. (Which is why the heartline roll was removed) The big brick that sits on your lap really makes the airtime hurt, the transition into the second launch is fucking brutal and the two Stengel dives are way too intense. Gemini is a better ride 100%
Maverick is nuts, delivers on every aspect of a coaster there is: airtime, positives, laterals, whip, acceleration g's, amazing pacing and feeling of speed, the setting is nice, and the restraints are actually pretty comfortable
I somewhat disagree. Mavericks layout is better in my opinion, however you just can’t beat the overall experience on velocicoaster, hence why it’s better

Back row, night ride is something else on Maverick! Definitely notable for Intamin’s greatest creations, still can’t stop talking about how much it blew me away to this day
A night ride in the back row on Maverick was definitely one of the highlights of my Cedar Point trip. I still don't think it tops Fury in terms of doing everything well, but it's an incredible ride.

Fun thing - Got a Velocicoaster ad right before this video, lol. I will say, I have no grounds to speak on the quality of Maverick - I haven't been there to ride it yet. However, Maverick *defined* the modern launch coaster. While other Blitz models and coasters from other companies refined it (with Velocicoaster coming the closest to perfecting it), Maverick was the first, and it deserves the acknowledgement for that.
Thank you about the restraints, and in general. I hear Airtime Thrills complaining all the time about Maverick's restraints, and most in general. Coastoons, maybe we're average height/build dudes here. lol. As for that Stengel Dive (second one), I've never been bothered at all by the whiplash. Hell, I get some nice, weird floater in with that snap.
Honestly I'm kind of similar with restraints, in terms of not really caring about them most of the time, although I will say that particularly terrible restraints can ruin a ride for me, especially if it's rough too. The only real offenders I can think of in this category, that I've ridden, are those with lap bars that come from the side (Mineblower and Rip Ride Rockit), which uncomfortably force me into the side of the seat (maybe I'm wearing them wrong?), and those old Arrow restraints which are a bit hard on my shoulders, but only when the ride is rough (Demon at SFGAm and Anaconda). Other than that I can't think of rides where the restraint has really broken them.
Got stuck in the lauch tunnel and got to experience the launch from a complete stop, it was unreal! Ride op told us a few fun facts like how it's still rocking Windows XP and you have to use a ladder if you get evacted down there bc of a design flaw where the catwalk is a few feet past the block zone
Yes, velocicoaster is a masterpiece, but nobody can deny the impact maverick had. Rides had been getting bigger, taller, and faster for years, and then here’s this 100 foot little machine that showed Intamin can build better, not just bigger. The smaller-scale vekomas and mini-hypers of today are still trying to do what maverick did in 2007. AN ICON
REALLY Controversial Opinion: The Maverick Restraints are some of my favorite. The soft straps provide enough leeway for the forces but not too much that the forces cant be enjoyed.
Maverick is great, but I don’t find it too amazing. It’s my #9 out of 89, and I can see multiple Intamin creations being better than it. I-305, GeForce, Piraten, Toro, and a handful of others. Considering how Taiga and VelociCoaster do what everything Maverick does but better in nearly every way, I can’t even see Maverick being the best Blitz coaster
My two rides on Maverick I held on to the handlebars and didn’t like how my neck would get thrown sideways into the shoulder restraints. I-305 has the same restraints and did the same thing when I held on, HOWEVER, when I finally got the courage to let go and go hands up the whole way on I-305, the lateral transitions were paired with airtime in a way that pushed my shoulders up into the fabric restraints and it didn’t rub against my neck. It’s wild (and maybe superior engineering) that not trying to brace myself gave me a supremely kore comfortable ride experience. I wonder if the same is true for Maverick.
I almost get mad when you didn't even consider Velocicoaster as Intamin finest creation. Thank God I stay till the end of the video. Hahaha Anyway.. Great video 🤟👍
2:45 It is crazy strong airtime but magnums hills have stronger air. Other than that, it is one of the strongest hills on any coaster. Also, the off axis hill and outer bank on Steve are great but not stronger than the Maverick or magnum hills
i think i actually agree here.. Maverick’s low to the ground element with multi-launches, crazy laterals, ridiculous airtime and whip elements it’s a full package
I don't know if I just had a bad ride or what but I thought Maverick was awful. The seat wasn't comfortable, I felt nothing on the first drop and we didn't even stop at the second launch, we just kept going. I had high expectations and it let me down
Maverick is just...so good. It was my number 2 for the longest time (only beaten by Twisted Timbers recently), it's the definition of the word "fun" to me. It doesn't focus on being the tallest or fastest, but instead focuses on having a great layout for the sake of giving us a great experience. This ride has a special place in my heart. Edit: To those that say Velocicoaster is this ride but better, you couldn't be more wrong, haha. 😅 Velocicoaster does it's own thing.
Visited CP for the first time in early September and I really REALLY liked Maverick but I expected to love it. I still prefer Skyrush although it’s far more aggressive and has no launches…which brings me to my next point: when I think Intamin, I think Storm Runner Nice Indiana Jones comparison 👏
Just to tell you, I305 is amazing in its whips to the side, it sends you from side to side with a force, good enough to be fun but not bad enough to hurt
K the more you talk the more I decide I'm going to cp really soon, even though I haven't ride this ride...yet, I absolutely agree lol (also your merch arrived 2 days ago and I love it)
Maverick is my 2nd favorite in the park, behind Gemini. Fun fact: when I went to cedar point, on the part where maverick goes over the body of water right after the launch, a huge piece of the rubber on a wheel fell off and landed on the bridge right in front of me, almost hitting me. When I picked it up it was still hot.
Red Fire and I speed really are the European versions of Maverick, Great Launch, good drop, rapid transitions, ejector airtime, inversions, and Red Fire has super open lap bars. While I don't think bad restraints take much away from a coaster, good restraints definitely add to a coaster, and Red Fire looks like one of those cases. Those inversions with an open lap bar look nuts. It always confuses me why so many people talk about Ispeed, but almost no one talks about Red Fire.
The restraints aren’t great but they were much worse. I rode Maverick yesterday and the shoulder straps were kinda digging into my collar bones. To be fair, I’m quite tall. However, the shoulder straps were originally the same hard orange plastic as the lap bar. That would’ve absolutely destroyed my collar bones
