This audio really helped me, me and my Dad recently purchased a wrx from a guy who couldn't remember what was in his car, so apparently he swapped a sti engine in and it sounds EXACTLY like this, we wouldn't have known otherwise so thank you.
@Bobertoni123 - No sweat, although, different exhaust systems and intakes will give different sounds so I wouldn't rely on sound to give you the correct answer. A standard WRX engine will sound the same. Assuming it's a version 7, 8, 9 or 10, take a look on top of the short block to the left on the alternator (looking down at the engine). You may see a stamp such as s20C, t20c or w20c which indicates an ej207 STi shortblock 👍
@michaelcarter3149 - also me! Haha I don't best too hard on the engine I have but I'm fully aware it has a lifespan so one day it'll get a repower for sure.
@hamishdoesstuff O ya, I don't want to beat on it until it's bulletproof lol. Plus I need new suspension before another motor lol. Headers are also a must, only thing left for exhaust.
Went from Queenstown - Tea Anau - Milford sound and back to Wanaka - Mt cook and Lake Tekapo last year. Some of the best driving / riding roads ever. In two weeks, saw about three cops. Compared to Aus, you guys have got it fcuken sweet in Ateora. Fcuken HP and cameras everywhere over here..
Nice one mate! I'm a kiwi in Aussie and picking up my 05 JDM Hawkeye STi next week. Full 3" titanium Fujitsubo exhaust, airbox, coilovers and tune. Making 200wkw. Should be good for a while and may go flex fuel sometime down the track.
Sounds great makes me want JDM STI back I had a spec c engine and that’s the lights version no spare alone aluminum. No subi rumble for about all STI that are JDM equal length headers. ITS STILL THERE just not as pronounced
@bensiok - that snow looks awfully fun 😅 not gonna lie! Yeah, no methanol over here, well not on the street anyway, track use only unfortunately. Lots of people getting good power out of E85 though.
What are you upgraded to get the exhaust and turbo sounds? I have a 2009 JDM STi and as my daily i would take out ny radio if i had that to listen too 😍
Intake: Silicone pipe with a pod filter and K&N MAF adapter. Exhaust: Factory headers, Redline branded up-pipe, VF48 turbo, 3" Invidia catless downpipe, GReddy Trust Titanium system from the downpipe back. Turbosmart VeePort Pro BOV, 100% vent to atmosphere. Spring rate set to give some sututu noises at low boost levels and properly vent when giving it a proper squirt.
@@hamish_does_stuffthanks! stock is great, everyone should enjoy it at least for a few years or forever. Where Im from a lot of guys tend to get back to it.
@RMJerich0 - Totally get that. I bought this car as a resto-mod type project. It's already relatively tidy but will always have a few things to chip away at. The ECU & tune is more about reliability than performance. Just knowing it's got a safe tune, not running lean or anything silly and to have some aftermarket computer smarts to keep it all in check. Apart from exhaust and coilovers, she's basically factory down to the classic gold rims 👌
@samuelarmstrong4080 - Yeah she's a bit sloppy! Just had it properly tuned too so no excuse to go a little harder now that the AFR, knock and intake scaling are all happy and healthy 🙂
The turbosmart bov has an adjustable spring. I've got the tension in a sweet spot that flutters at low levels of boost and does a proper choo when really going for it. The pod filter / intake just make it all so much louder.
I’ve been wanting to do this, what are you using to record and how? Finally got my subie to run and would love to record the sound. Also that little piece dangling from your window I’m assuming is a mic?
Hey man! Breakdown below (the video I uploaded a couple days ago shows a bit of this too). - GoPro 12 setup with ND filters and ProTune. - Saramonic Wireless Lav Set, although the new DJI Mic setup would be preferable. - Zoom H6 portable recorder. Happy to make a video with a bit more detail if you want 🙂
@hamisdoesstuff would definitely appreciate that! I tried with my iPhone and it wasn’t working lol, I’ll definitely sub and check out your other video! The POV is perfect
@@hamish_does_stuff I too would love a breakdown on this, this video and a few others really have inspired me to do this once my VQ is turbo'd in a month or so, we have a quite a few mountain scenes down here in Christchurch and hearing all the lovely sounds is part of enjoyment why we do what we do.
@EyeFullBlooD - Can do! And yep, totally agree - have done a few good drives through the Port Hills with this in the past. Great roads to have so close to you and always a treat when I visit 🙂
Hey man! It's a basic pod filter into a K&N adapter for the MAF sensor and then into a generic silicon intake pipe. Similar to the Perrin silicone intakes except on a budget. Nothing special in this setup at all, infact I probably lose power but it does sound good!
2x Lav mics into a wireless system (Similar to the Rode Wireless Go II). Clip the lavs in a good spot (always trial and error with different cars), record, mix the levels and job done 🙂
Nah, unfortunately not ProDrive buy I do have a grille tucked away if I ever come across a bumper to match. Checked out your videos too, looks and sounds great!
@@hamish_does_stuff thanks brother, I'm not finished and still restoring him. But your bug sounds awesome man.. if you don't mind whats the setup? Blow off valves etc.

Nice! I just got mine back last Thursday. Cylinder 4 decided to go down, got a jdm replacement. Soo glad to have her back!
Ah man, sorry to hear about the breakdown but stoked it's back up and running for you!
Hopefully the JDM 207 makes for a nice upgrade.

Already saving for full build down the road.

Wow what a noise! Need longer length videos of this for sure.

i cant help it but to smile with those lovely subie noises ♥️
the scenery is really nice out Rarangi ways, did a campervan trip and stayed around this area for a few nights
Haha good eye! It's a great wee spot and the twistys to White's Bay can be a bit of fun.

Bit of a cruise on this weekend... might have to make another one and find a tunnel somewhere 😅

@moereefer - Yeah twin scroll setups on those version 8/9/10 JDM models. No rumble but they sound incredible with antilag dialed in.
Good job, you just sold a Turbosmart Vee Port BOV for my 02 Prodrive Style STi ^^
Sold a couple over the weekend to friends that have decided it's the nicest sounding BOV they've heard too 😂 definitely a good bit of kit!

Factory power, nothing too special. One day an ECU & proper tune will happen. Aiming for 230kw atw with a couple of other upgrades.
