Hi and welcome to the channel! Thats a nice g5 system you have! I did in fact install Sorbet on this g5 here th-cam.com/video/1nGmUnq2cQc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7McCnxkvf5QInERv Mine works pretty well. I just need a better video card. I used my Samsung Sata1 128gig ssd. Thanks for watching and commenting and thanks for the tip :)
Hi and welcome to the channel. It could be that the cpus are overheating. You could try cleaning and re thermal pasting them. If you have a newer g5 that used the water cooling system we'll those failed all the time so look for damage to the motherboard. Also look for bulging capacitors. You could have a failing power supply. Check it if you have a power supply tester.
My G5 2 ghz 2005 machine won’t boot up but I bought it new & has many years of pictures, videos & files. Hoping to get it repaired but not a tech myself. So will be looking for a replacement that works.
Hi there. Oh man, that stinks. Sorry to hear. Do you think the hard drives are dead? If it isn't, you may be able to put it in an external USB enclosure and hook it up to another Mac and maybe copy over the pictures to the working Mac.
It cracked me up how you were saying "It has a DVI and a ...." you realized you didn't recognize that funky apple connector, and you skipped forward on the video 🤣. I didn't even remember it, and I had to look it up. It's the Apple Display Connector (ADC). Cuz Apple loves doing stupid proprietary things. This G5 was a great find. I actually took one apart and used the case for a Hackintosh I built a many moons ago, but I got tired of all the upgrade hassles associated with it. Fun story: I once found a silver G4 at the local dump. It had 10.3 Panther, 466mhz PowerPC, 512Mb of PC133 SDRAM, a 20GB drive, and an ATI Rage AGP card. I upgraded it to 10.4 Tiger, 1 gig of ram, a 60GB drive, loaded it up with free educational games, I gave it to a kid with a mother that was on a fixed income, and he used it for about 5 years. Upgrading Java. I can imagine some dude in an Apple basement looking at his screen and saying "OMG...we haven't had a 10.4 upgrade in a few years!" 10.5.8 Leopard should be the last G5 compatible OS. Snow Leopard is Intel only. I wonder why yours didn't upgrade. Did you try downloading Interwebppc browser? I just read a few things on it, and it looks like it works well with modern sites and 10.4.11, 10.5, etc.

Hi there. I have a Powermac G3 tower and 17” studio display monitor from 1999. I can’t remember the last time it was all powered up but it was given to me in working condition then sat for many years. Should I take any precautions before just plugging it into an outlet and hitting the power button 😬.
Hi there. Plug it into a good surge suppressor. If it has been sitting one never knows what shape it is in. Capacitors could have died/leaked etc. If it boots up you can then shut it off and dust out the inside with compressed air. You won't be able to upgrade the OS. But maybe u might be able to install a faster drive with more ram and Linux. But it's old so I'd say just enjoy the nostalgic aspect of it and leave as is. Leme know how things work out.
The college had one of these back when. The students used it to make the school newspaper. I worked a student job there. I think my official title was "lab tech" or something. Your best bet for that G5 is to find someone that has the same one and clone the hard drive for your G5. It works fine that way, and you'll inherit all the apps they have too!
