    I am a die-hard fan of retro Dell cases. They are very robust, RF shielding is excellent and can withstand any mod you can throw at it. I just built my last stealth-gaming rig on an Inspiron 530 case.

      Hi! Yeah, that case is made of plastic shrouded steel and heavy!! Most nowadays are sheet metal. Stealth gaming rigs are cool.. sleeper builds FTW!! Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it :)

    On the topic of good deals, I was given a Lenovo R61e laptop, it required a good clean and new thermal paste, I upgraded the DDR2 ram., to it's maximum of 4 gig., and I installed an SSD., the processor is just a single core Celeron 1.86 ghz., but it can handle a 64 bit OS., so it now has Linux Mint Mate installed and it works well enough for e-mail and browsing the web and it can even play You Tube videos, which is not bad for a 16 year old laptop.

      Awesome deal!! Hey, with that ssd and Ram upgrade and Mint, it probably runs faster than it ever could lol :)

      I just ordered a 2.4ghz c2d for my t61 that had a 1.86ghz cpu. That r61 should be compatible with the middleton bios also. It unlocks up to 8gb of ram on certain models and sata 2. Worth the bios upgrade just for that higher sata speed for a ssd.

    That's the era when i got into computers. Had a radeon 9550 128mb. That 9700 pro is worth alot even now in the retro communities. I managed to get another 9550 but its a 64bit version that is slow as a snail. The 256bit 9700 is a beast for sure. Cool content man!

      Hi there, and welcome to the channel! That 9550 i think i had one back in the day as well. Yeah, when I found out that video card in this old Dell was a 9700 pro I kept checking it to make sure that I was omg!! Tons more content on the way, so stay turned! Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it :)

    Nice, man. I remember when they were trying to sell us on rambus being the future of ram lol. That didn't last too long, huh

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah, lol. Rambus ran hot, and I think Intel was the only adopter. The rest saw ddr as the future.. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

    I recently picked up a dell laptop with a 1ghz p3 an Nvidia GeForce 3 and 1600 X 1200 resolution. All I need is to somehow replace the drive. And it’s one of those modular types too. And that’s prolly a sound blaster live!

      Oh wow, that's a sweet older laptop!! Put in an ssd with a sata to ide adapter or ide to CF drive and make it fly. I've been trying to get a nice socket 370 mobo with a high-end p3.. Thanks again :)

    Really decent find, how lucky with the radeon 9700 pro! Your best off installing win 98 on that hardware.

      Hey there. Yeah, right. I was like, woooo! I bet it would be a beast of a Windows 98 se machine!

      That card can be soft-modded to 9800 Pro with Omega drivers.

      @@ToniHiltunen1980Are you sure about that?
      The 9500 (R300) can be soft modded into a 9700 (also R300) but the 9800 is an R350/360.

    I scored a ASUS ROG Strix B550 Gaming motherboard brand new, sealed in the box from a guy that put together systems for people on the side. He bought the motherboard for a build and the person didn't want it so he let me have it for 80 bucks. He needed money to go out of town quickly. Finally, it was my time to get a freaking steal.
    What would be a good processor you would suggest to hold me over for about a month and a half until I can get the money together to get the 5600x3d to go with the board. I want something that's nothing fancy you know. Hopefully under 100 bucks.

      Hi there. Well, a 4100 4 core or 4500 6 core would be under 100 in the U.S. right now. One has onboard graphics the other doesn't. Depends on if you need that or not. Might get better performance from the 4500, but idk if you have a video card? Congrats on your 550 deal! Once you get that am4 3d cpu, it should hold you over for some time :)

    LOL you made it sound like there was a layer of dust an inch thick hiding it. When you cracked it open, I was like come on that is CLEAN compared to some I've seen 🤣! Those plastic retainers for expansion cards were so annoying! I hated these Dells because it felt like everyone had them, and they all sucked. All the propriety clips and such. Eh, some things never change. I'm willing to bet the thermal pad was due to an imperfect and not very flat heatsink surface. Temps before and after would have been interesting. People really love the retro stuff these days. You got a ton of views in just 15 hours! Go to the library and see what they got buried in the basement 😆. These singe cores I tell ya. Really, your best bet when playing a game is to make sure there is NOTHING running in the background. We have gotten too spoiled with all these fancy multi-core cpus lol. Nice find man.

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hehe, well It wasn't as bad. I agree as some I've cleaned, but hey, I had to make it funny somehow, lol. Yeah, that cpu coolers suspect on its ability to cool...so it's not.. cool? Library aye, I've never thought of that idea.. do they toss them or sell them? I'm intrigued! Back in the day working on those dell Clam shell cases, you've no idea how many cables got pinched, closing it, arrrgggghhhh.. so far, so good on the views.. I've got a few more retro videos I'm working on, so hopefully, it catapults me up!! Thanks again. I appreciate it!
