I think a lot of it comes from people thinking they will love a job until they actually have to do it. They start out fine. Then they finally realize it is actual work. They grow hatred for their job, the kids, the admin etc...but of all the things they grow to hate, the one they can take it out on is the kids So they take their disillusionment on the kids.
My grandmother passed away from cancer when I was 12. There are few things more painful than seeing how a person you very dearly love fades away in front of you. To use cancer as a means to take advantage of your loved ones is the most disgusting thing I have seen. She should be glad I haven't met her in person.

She passed away from breast cancer that spread to her lungs (or so i was told) 1 week before I was born so I was the only great great grandchild that never met her. Imagine my surprise when i received 2k like the rest of my cousins and brothers as inheritance at 18. Anyways a women tried using her logic of "having breast cancer" to steal from my shopping cart one day and made a big scene when i called her out and told he yes, she has cancer, but that doesn't give her a reason to be a total b..ch to us. I even stated that it runs in my family and i get check each year for it. She should be grateful she is still living and fighting and will most likely live through it. It was funny watching her freak out like my nephew who throws massive tantrums in the middle of a walmart. Her husband had to drag her out and told her to grow up because he was sick of her doing this shit. This was literally just before covid lock downs so she was an idiot coming out with the news of this virus going around.
I'm so sorry for your losses. My grandmother also passed away from ovarian cancer when I was 14. She hid the pain her family and never went to the doctor until it was too late. We were informed of her cancer merely months before she passed away. It was so devastating. She was the liveliest person of all people I've met up to this day. She had a hair salon and would bring in some homeless ladies and gave them free hair wash and sometimes haircut. Up to this day there were still some people come to her house not knowing she had passed away years ago, bringing gifts to thanked her for those free haircuts and hair washes.

I had a teacher that didn't like me in the sixth grade. Whatever i did never made her happy. It was anything from class assignments to projects. I told my mom and she didnt do anything about it. I told the school and they didnt do anything about it. Later on i had figured out that she had became a substitute teacher bc of all the complaints she had gotten. Not much for revenge but my complaints did help.
knowing half and maybe more of my family are veterans from the military. I'm pretty certain the teacher would have an "accident" within a few days maybe a week at least if that kind of crap happens to me when I was kid back then. but I'm currently an adult now and somewhat living with two family members on a farm to be an extra hand on their property and currently have a job I've been at for 5 years now.

Even I cannot understand why anyone would sink to those sorts of lows, much less either slandering to the point of someone being harshly ostracised publicly for something so minor they got their panties in a quad-knotted twist over happening or just cruelly harming someone to the point of them nearly dying over being splashed at a public pool pre-quarantine. The second one happened to a friend I had, and internally I blamed myself for years over it before I came to terms with the fact that the little punk responsible is to blame.

Mindy was an emotional rollercoaster to read about. At first I was absolutely heartbroken once they said Mindy was ill, but when everything was being revealed I was absolutely disgusted and horrified. I felt tragically sad for OP and joyfully happy for the wedding.

Oh man, I had to skip the first story like halfway through, I'm legitimately in tears, it breaks my heart to know children have to endure that kind of treatment, not only from other children (who unfortunately learn those behaviors from grownups around them), but also from adults who are supposed to be there to guide them in life and protect them, I'm absolutely destroyed, no one should have to go through that, this is why racism and bigotry isn't "just an opinion", when it hurts others it becomes something that shouldn't exist, I hate that this is still happening everywhere and that it's considered a controversial topic, as if it should be allowed to continue existing and hurting others, how can people think about that and not feel heartbroken?

I went to school in South Africa for the first two grades in the late 90s and I remember the principal or teachers saying that this is an English speaking school and if you speak any other language you would be punished. If I remember right the school did cane students as a punishment. They may also have used the then side of the ruler to hit your fingers but that could have just been a rumour
80's and early 90's were insane at school. I got jacks (corporal punishment) as a GIRL! Yes, we had a uniform - I was wearing a dress to bend over the chair for my whipping.

That last one broke my heart! Mindy was a real piece of crap.
By 15:50 when he read "Mindy was able to go to her chemo sessions by herself without becoming too sick" threw up many red flags.
By the next line saying "She also looked much better than other patients" was another red flag. While I've never had chemo, I'm pretty sure most people who go through chemo experience themselves feeling horrible so the fact Mindy looked "much better than other patients" just doesn't sound right.

By Mindy not letting OP help getting a "better insurance plan" would prevent the OP from seeing insurance history, or should I say, lack of payment history.
At around 17:19 when OP talks about her ex getting screwed over on money, makes me think Mindy suckered money from him somehow. What if SHE was the person that the OP's ex went with but OP didn't know it? Mindy could have used the ex until she got as much money, then done away with him.

Probably was way more rare or expensive back then there. We have a tendency to relate back to ourselves and our lives when we have no point of reference, so them having smart phones but no jumpers sounds weird to us, even though theres way more reason to make amd/or sell phones then jumper cables in a place like south Africa, where shared transport and digital currency are far more common then here.

That teacher story hits me in the feels. I had a teacher when I was younger who deserved that kind of karma (and it’s not just me who thinks that. My mother is a very nonviolent person but she has told me that if she saw him on the street she might attack him for what he did to me. And I believe her.)

As someone who's struggled all her life with life-threatening circumstances I feel bad accepting handouts from anyone, even friends. And yet there are scumbags like this who will lie about the most serious thing imaginable just to scam someone out of money, to take advantage of people?! I mean, I've always known people like this existed, but I think this is the worst story I've ever heard of such a thing. This is a betrayal of the highest magnitude. I'm glad she got some justice out of it, but I cannot believe how vile one has to be to do such a thing. People like this are the exact reason why I try not to even bring up my own issues (despite the ever-growing worries that rise with not telling people...) around people. Everything else is despicable enough, but faking terminal illness is what makes my blood boil here. Do *not* make light of those who are suffering, especially not for your own twisted gain. That is one of the most horrendous things a person can do short of an outright atrocity. That is a ripple effect that affects so much more than just you and whoever you're taking advantage of, that plants seeds of doubt that could make all affected discredit anyone genuinely in need of help. That is unforgivable.
What in the world does it take to destroy someone's goodwill like that? How do people even *become* that evil? That's the thing I've never been able to understand. Were they just always a sociopath? Was it fake the whole time and they've just been broken since forever? (It sounds like it's possible, based on "terrible homelife" context...)
I wish I knew these things if only because people should do all they possibly can to prevent people from tumbling down that path to oblivion. Yeah, no, don't get me wrong, a part of me vicariously reviles her, but hating a stranger you'll never meet isn't exactly going to accomplish anything...
I guess the takeaway here is to always be really really aware of the mental state of your friends who you know have had it rough, both to protect yourself and, hopefully, them too. Because that must not have happened here. I struggle to believe something like this could manifest from nothing.
