The whole argument about children making these counterfeit bags doesn't make sense to me. Do people really think that children can replicate a birkin as well as the artisans at Hermes? Either you think their quality is so bad that children could make these bags, or it's a total myth.
I also find that the experience of shopping at luxury boutiques has become anything but luxury. Firstly, what is up with people lining up? I don't line up for anything and certainly not a luxury store. Then, even if there isn't a line up, they're still very busy and full of people everywhere. Who are all these people??! The whole experience is just not what it used to be for me so I'm done with it. I can absolutely understand the appeal of having "a guy" that you can just send exactly what you want to them and they will source you your dream bag (or whatever), exactly the same as if you got it from the brand, for a fraction of the price. And then you can afford to fly to Paris first class with your fake bag and not have to waste your holiday stressing about trying to get a leather appointment so that maybe hopefully big H can offer you SOMETHING... How is that luxury?

Exactly. Children are making their Nike shoes, Victoria's secret bras, Anthropologie clothing and dying in the process of mining the cobalt for their electric vehicles battery. But only NOW do we want to talk about children suffering, ONLY when it comes to the topic of fake handbags??? SO HYPOCRITICAL and this is why I don't care what influencers think.. I live in Japan, so I feel lucky that we have one of the world's best luxury preloved markets, both in terms of quality and quantity. The trusted resellers here are mostly registered to this general incorporated foundation called AACD (Association Against Counterfeit Product Distribution) which has a history of over 20 years, including major companies that are even listed on the stock market. They have a rigid system to ensure that only genuine products are sold and that counterfeit products are eliminated. Companies have to be thoroughly examined and qualified in order to be registered. So I only buy from the companies that are registered to AACD, because we are officially ensured that the products are genuine. If you want to know about further details, please let me know.

Japan has the Yakuza mafia running super fakes. Years ago I bought a “guaranteed authentic” LV on ebay from a Japanese seller. It was a fake! Extremely well made except that the yellow stitching color was too vibrant. I have real ones to be able to compare side by side.

@@SummerofKittyLove EBay isn’t really Japanese. Proper Japanese people don’t buy luxury items from eBay. There are foreigners pretending to be Japanese. Such a controversial topic but I’m here for it. I can afford luxury but the prices and quality have left me disgusted. Also, I’d rather spend my hard earned money on experiences or invest for my future. I recently read an article about celebs wearing fake bags, jewelry, etc. in order to stay rich. Makes sense and smart I might add. I have recently purchased faux fab bags, but here’s why. I’m Asian and with the Asian hate/attacks, I’d rather have a fake be stolen than the real deal. I will say when I carried my faux fab Chanel I felt carefree didn’t baby it, and prob have worn it more times than my real Chanel jumbo🤦🏻‍♀️ Def different times we live in.

When people say that the fakes have some very poor labor practices connected to them, well there is a documentary on TH-cam also which did an investigation into some high end luxury brand which was made in Italy and that one had atrocious labor practice so just because your bag wasn’t made in China it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t made with slave labour in a country that is associated with more luxury

    • @xeracalm2023

I have dabbled in reps - Honestly I ended up buying several Hermes reps that I had had authentic versions of but sold when I realized I was NEVER using them. The value was not there for me to just sit and admire them in dust bags, shelves and boxes. So I sold them and later I missed them for that random time where I wanted to use them - so I dabbled in some reps. Here is what I learned. The cheap reps you see on Canal street or on FB marketplace? No doubt those things are probably made in very low quality factories with awful materials and terrible work conditions. The super fakes that are just as handstiched and hand made as Hermes? (I am sure we all know at this point that not ever single piece of a Birkin or Kelly is fully hand stitched) those take real skill and training - I imagine the two factories are not remotely the same. It then begs to question where exactly is the cheap labor that is being used in Italy, France and elsewhere for some of their products? We have seen documentaries and news reports of Chinese workers being put in Italy to work in luxury at cheaper wages.. we also have seen the details that the products may be assembled mostly in China and then some minor finishing done in Europe with enough "work" being done to put on a Made in France or Italy label. There is something that is happening especially with the super fakes - they are getting many of the same types of hides, threads, equipment to replicate.. just brings up a lot of curiosity for me.

    • @notme1255
      @notme1255 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you for making SUCH a good point. Plus they can still manufacture most of the bag in a country that uses mostly slave labor then ship it to a "luxury country" to be finished and assembled and still get to claim it was made in France/Italy/etc.

You can either buy the real luxury product, a contemporary brand, or a local artisan, all different price points. There are options for every person. We never 'need' to buy a fake. People are commenting as if its the real thing or the fake, and those 2 are the only options. There are so many bags at different price points if you do not agree with paying the extraordinary amount of luxury

I’m late to luxury accessories/apparel buying but for me, and this is something I’m surprised neither of you touched upon, it is the feeling you get from owning a genuine luxury piece. It can make you feel like you can conquer the world on days when you need a little lift. Luxury makeup can have the same effect for me too. I have a beautiful BV ‘inspired’ pouch bag, a much better size than the BV one and in a beautiful fabric but you can bet I would walk a little taller if it was actually from BV… I cannot explain why but surely I’m not the only one who is buying a feeling as much as buying a handbag? Side note: that micro Pochette Métis costs more than the Alma with the leather strap, ridiculous, but that’s the price for popularity I guess? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway, it’s so nice seeing you video together.

The rich stay rich by being financially smart. Most wealthy people I know do not spend money. They are often gifted items, their expenses are paid for by a company or brand, or they have ways to write things off their purchases on their taxes. If you have money no one questions whether you are wearing fakes and no one really cares. If you came to me with a fake Louis Vuitton I wouldn't have the slightest clue because I don't like the luxury house and I do not own anything from them.
Another thing I have noticed is that many influencers are not loyal to one brand. They just chase the next big bag so, their collections are very scatterbrained and inconsistent. How can you tell at that point what's fake?

I knew a wealthy-ish family when I was growing up. I was best friends as a child with a girl with family wealth. The dad would literally shop at Goodwill for books. Lord knows he could have bought anything at full retail price and brand new. But he didn't. He just wasn't consumed with new and shiny or designer image. We would literally take summer road trips in their Toyota mini van and these people had money, yet they drove an economical mini van on trips. They did have luxury cars too though! But I think when you work hard to make your wealth, you also tend to want to hoard it and not squander it...

But it's not a black and white topic. Supposedly Warren Buffet drives like a 20 something year old car and he's literally one of the wealthiest men In the world ! Who knows If it's even true but definitely food for thought!
Also, Leonardo Dicaprio (and tons of millionaires) drives a Prius around L.A. and he's filthy rich and so he's vocally and very famously concerned with the earth's scarcity of resources so I feel your point needs to also be respectfully debated 😉
I think to say wealthy people aren't concerned with scarcity is somewhat untrue. That's why they stay rich. They hoard their money like its about to be scarce. Like old money wealth.

Before I was able to afford the authentic bag, I would buy similar looking bags. I feel very lucky now that I have two classic flaps that I purchased at the Chanel boutique - just like Dacob, Chanel is my Disney land. I don’t think buying fakes would give me the same joy. I think the key is to not fall into FOMO and not fall for the pressure to own many designers bags. i always patiently wait, save, and often buy older season items from the boutique because if I have been thinking about a piece for 6 months to a year.. then I know I love it. I have a small collection of Chanel bags, jewelry, and ready to wear.. a small collection, but it brings me so much joy ☺️

And I’m not through the entire video yet but if you haven’t mentioned this point in your video - I’m curious why buy a fake at all instead of a similar shape from another quality brand at a lower price point? You can still test out a bag to know if it’s right for you without getting a fake. I feel like folks want fakes to create an external appearance to others, almost a fake flex. And ZERO judgment here, even the most humble person flexes sometimes. However, I think maybe the motivation to purchase a fake is more directed to changing how people perceive that individual and less about their love for the item.

I stumbled upon a Chanel19 dupe no logo (mademoiselle turnlock) with beautiful absolutely beautiful leather and hardware and the quality was amazing. And having gone the vintage route which surprisingly, the lesser brands (Chloe, Prada, Loewe) are ten times better in quality than LV and Chanel you think hmm what is it that makes us bag obsessed. For me, as a person who wears both authentic, dupe and replica as well as even actual baskets (which marni stole the designs and slapped on $1000 when it's $15 at the market and they've done it for decades) I think that the question of authenticity and copyright laws are class struggles still. It's a glass half full half empty question. If those people in the third world are making replica bags are given salaries why not? As opposed to what? There are people starving because of drought and bad economies and having the opportunity to even have employment is something the West might not understand yet. So it's a hit or a miss and not exactly black and white.

While hanging out with a wealthy friend of mine that can afford anything including Hermes she admitted a few of her items especially shoes were replicas because she found the quality better and more comfortable! If those that can afford the real thing aren’t purchasing them out of principal on quality then the fashion houses should listen up.

It can be a thin line whether something is truly a “fake” verses something “inspired” by the original design. Have thought more than a few times to buy a bag that happens to look very similar to a Mini Kelly II because I just like the style and know that I likely won’t ever be offered one from the boutique. However I’d only source from a responsible atelier (one I found is made in UK) and if someone asked I wouldn’t pass it off as being genuine. Curious if anyone else has done the same?

While I don't support or appreciate the trickle down of human trafficking or terrorism from the purchase of replica bags. Authentic companies also aren't humane or kind. Not to go off on a tangent but the undertone of why authentic is better is based on classism and racism. When its made in Europe we ooh and ahh over it but the idea that its made in China , even if the quality is phenomenal, we still find a way to say its unacceptable. I am a Chanel lover and it has reached a point that no matter i could afford a classic flap, i no longer think it is worth it at the current prices. So I have started to buy other things from the brand or focus on bags from other brands like Fendi, Loewe, Celine with more reasonable price tags. Before i would want a classic flap in every single color. Now i see my collection and it would have to be a super special color or denim/jersey/tweed to buy it.

I think the fake bags for how much thay cost in the uk there is 2 places that l buy real leather bags from and thats Aspinal of London there bags are beautiful the leather is stunning and thay come boxed beautiful. Also kurt Geiger thay do great bags too trend bags but still real leather and tweed and these bags from these brands you can get the most beautiful bag good size for 400 hundred pounds and the SAs are so lovely . When you go into the Thousands for a bag and you have put money aside for a couple of years you want that bag to be the best .Now am done because am so upset about Romina god bless her am so happy your SAs in Chanel treated you with great respect because if it had been me l would have been devastated same has you and Romina have been over these bags because the stress of it all has been terrble. Meaning if more and more people can’t afford to buy the real thing we are going to have a lot more fakes circulating and being worn. Won’t be able to tell the difference and everyone will be wearing classic flaps down the street where it’s going to be so common instead of something special.

Hi Jessie and Dacob. So good to see you too together!!!!! I have to say that yes, I do purchase replica and dupe bags. I do this for a few reasons. First, I just cannot come to grips with paying thousands upon thousands of dollars to buy bags, or play games to get a bag. Second, my biggest fear is paying an arm and a leg for a bag second hand and it is a super fake. I have made a few second hand purchases, and I am still just not sure that they are “authentic” even with the authenticity documents. Third, when I buy a replica or dupe, I know what I am getting. The quality so far has been excellent. I have a Fendi First sitting next to me now that is a dupe. It is well constructed, sturdy, and beautiful. I have retirement coming up, and I just refuse to pay so much for a bag. I really like the designs, not the prices. I know there are moral issues, but I do hope that no one is being abused in the process. I would much rather give my money to a smaller seller who appreciates my business than to a big brand who could care less about me and my dollars by selling me poorly constructed goods. Thank you for bring up this topic, and I hope your premiere was a big success!!!! Merde!

Shein and Fashion Nova have extremely well-documented bad labor practices. Not to mention other crappy companies like Walmart and Amazon. Seen lots of influencer ads for those on TH-cam and IG. So I started out buying high tier replicas mainly for me since in my city no one cared about these things and would hardly see any designer bags
    around.
Fast forward to the whole debate involving replicas I thought why not buy an authentic bag, I couldn’t bring myself to go into the boutique as the thought of paying over 1200 for an Alma Epi made me sick. Purchased one with the concierge online last year and when it arrived I was underwhelmed. I realised my replicas brought me more joy since they are well made plus I also don’t get the guilt of spending so much on a single item. Though this days I also enjoy buying from contemporary brands like Strathberry, Polene etc
Afterwards I went back to buying reps and have been happy. I’m blessed in my life currently with my family business doing so well so no one has ever questioned the authenticity of my items…I drive a nice car, have 3 vacation homes etc.
We live in a capitalistic world and almost nothing we consume is really as “Clean” as we think it is according to our moral standards. You can be buying authentic but the iPhone you are using was made using Cobalt sourced by an unethical methods by use of kids in Congo..the list goes on and on. Regardless I respect people who buy Auth because after all it’s their money and their choices don’t affect me, wouldn’t try to convince them otherwise.

I think back like I could have purchased a nice boat….It’s getting to the point were you have to play a cat and mouse game to get a desired “luxury item”. I’ll just spend my money on art. The quality is definitely not there anymore… however, Celine does have impeccable quality and it’s low key luxury… I don’t feel like I’ll be rob because my handbag is making a “rob me” statement….
