True, its a hard path to get to top 4 , but they, can loose games in top 8 and still go through to top 4 play offs. Having said that the CNI teams are good but dont really have chance to beat TBC or HBHS. Will TBC stay excellent ?? if Chiefs have 2 teams then Blues have 2 as Westlake now legit. Top 4 as a tournament sux, it should have the top 5 teams qualify by ranking system .
@AtZ575 yeah Auckland and Super 8 have that problem every year but there must be a better way for them to do it so it's fair for every school to have a shot at Nationals. CNI are getting better and better as teams and individuals and so if they keep growing they could also be in that same problem
@gavinchester6890 Westlake BHS are good as a whole but we see from others years holding that standard can be so hard because you are asking every level of rugby team in your school from U14s B all the way up to 1stXV to make a commitment to being better and winning. I'm not sure if Westlake BHS are asking that of their teams
@@hstop200To be fair Westlake aren’t allowed to stream their teams in the NH competition. Harbour make them make all of their teams “equal” in their grades. Other than that all of their performance teams 1st XV, 2nd XV, U15A and U14A are consistently competing in their grades. Their U15A team is currently 3rd in Auckland.
The real problem is not that the Chiefs or Blues should have 2 teams at a national champ tournament , the problem is, is that Hurricanes and Southern teams wouldn't be in a top 6 tournament if we had a valid and reliable ranking system that gave teams entry into a top 5 or 6 national champs. So, if HAM beats Gisborne (who I love) they get 5 points but if HAM beats AGS or TBG they get 10. Problem is getting the weighting correct and if traditional games should be included. Anyway, at the moment the Top 4 sux as a tournament and does not accurately show the top team in country.

My opinion, the Top 4 should at least be a Top 8. Our Top 8 teams could beat any other team in the country in their day.
