Good points made in this video. To anyone who has this bike or is planning on buying one: the abrupt power delivery is the main issue you want to fix. Luckily, an over-abundance of power is a great problem to have. 14-52 or 51 gearing makes the power delivery way more linear and makes each gear much longer. The stock maps are ok but the magic and jl smooth maps are the only ones i would consider using on the stock ecu. An xpr vortex ecu is the ultimate in smooth but strong power delivery (keefers world vet mx map). Once you smoothen the power delivery you can fix the ergos if need be; you don’t have to be so over the front to offset the squat of the rear end when accelerating. Bar mounts in position 2 (back hole flipped forward). This chassis likes your body weight moved rearward, taller bars, bar mount spacers (17-19 450’s had taller mounts) and pegs moved rearward are common trends with these bikes (fastway, raptor or works connection all have offerings). I run a back 10 peg personally. Lastly the fork springs in stock form are too soft if you are fast or ride aggressively. This really is a fantastic platform, no need to be weary. Lastly while i believe the gearing and map changes to be a necessity, any ergonomic change will be personal preference for the rider.
I have 22 and i go back and forth with gearing a lot I like fairly low, but not the lowest accept for our most gnarly rides. I copied a bunch of maps. The most stall resistant one IMO is the "spunky feel with connection" map. I like 12/50 for most technical rides but like 12/52 for the one ride we do that you dont want stalling lol. Ill run 13/51 a lot too sometimes. The mx feeling map will bust the ass end loose almost no matter what you are doing. This bike is very easy to get the front end over obstacles. I did put a hydro magura clutch on it, love it. Gummy tires and tubliss.

Picked up the last available '21 yz450f in June of that year. It's set up for hard enduro and definitely needs to be dialed in for the rider and conditions. When I took delivery of it, the thing was a death trap. Completely unmanageable at slow speeds and first gear was useless. It'd either blow the tire off or stall. Understanding what the bike is doing, and making the changes and adjustments to correct the problems can take some time. I went whole hog on it from multiple directions and changed and adjusted soo many things I lost track. Definitely not advisable for a novice. Seat time is the only way I know to get a bike dialed. There's no such thing as a perfect bike until you build it.
love my 21450fx!!! thing is sick, got my suspension set up by speed tech in MI cuz thats where i ride. The power!!! super strong!!! 81 hours and still havent touched the motor, getting close those... GO YAMAHA!!!
I'm not a super experienced rider. More intermediate and I love my wr450f but I use mine for trails and bite of a daily, yet 100% agree very glad I started on 125s and 250s
Thank you so much for the review! G-Force is great, that is where I will be buying my bike from. So coming from a Novice/Casual ride who is looking at the WR VS YZ (I am 6'2" @240lbs), I will riding similar areas that you are but less aggressive or intense, and leaning towards the WR for the comfort. Would you go YZ or WR? Thanks
Awesome review! I've got the 2022 and @ 260hr the valves are still in spec.. Just got the FMF 4.1 full titanium exhaust that boosted the power even more! Power tuner app is what sold me tho!
I never had any complaints with the stock loaded maps so I never even used the app yet lol. After looking at the numbers in the hard terrain map, I just don’t really see how I’m gonna make it do much better for what I want.
@@BeRAD When I got my bike it had 0 hrs and the stock maps were set with everything at 0. I've tested quite a few maps and they really make a lot of difference. Just when I settled on the Torquey and Hard Terrain maps I got the new exhaust and I will need to modify them for sure!
I could ride that bike up in Eastern woods of Massachusetts, same riding style as me, perfect bike for me loved my 3 kx 500s, that people said couldn't be ridden in woods, they were wrong, also loved my yz 426 I need that bike seriously and show some of these young kids how to manhandle a bike in the woods lol Lonnie
Could you tune the bark out of it with the app? I do a lot of sand and desert riding so it won’t be an issue there but when I do hit the singles and hills I’d love to mellow it down as much as possible. How far can you mellow it with the app?
Awsome review and yea it's made for an experienced operator in off-road and Enduro. And then we have the others that give a mixed up review on the bike
every local hare scramble points board (Louisiana and arkansas) has went from Ktm at the top to Yamaha riders winning. Yamaha has nailed it with the x models
I’ve been riding since I was 2 and I’m 16 now. My bike right now is a 22’ 300 xcw with some motor work but I’m looking at getting one of these. I got into dune riding and that’s really all I want to do now so I’m wondering if this would be good or too much for me.
I Love my 2022. Need to talk about the power tuner app can dumb down the power quite a bit. I'm faster on this bike then any 2stroke I have owned to date. IMO, I love KTM/Husky 2 strokes, but I think for enduro stuff, Yamaha has a better 4 stroke. My old 08 husaberg fe 550 was absolutely legendary though.
This 2023 450 made my 2stroke start sitting an collecting dust. Yes I like it an have no complaints for my style of riding. #I love thump and can be lazy when want which makes my time faster
Yeah would be nice. I’m thankful to live in a state where I can convert easily. Saves THOUSANDS. And then you don’t have all the BS stuff on the bike to meet emissions and make it legal lol.
@@BeRAD I have been considering doing that here lately but leaning toward the crf450x more so then the other race bikes not sure I will be saving much money that route though
I'd love to test a new 450x and a 250fx or wr back to back. There's a big weight difference between them but I think the 450x would be hard to beat for an all around machine. The x only makes a couple HP more than the fx but the tq down low isn't even comparable.
@@heathcarr1105 yeah I'm leaning toward the 450x because it has a much wider gearbox can do the slow stuff while still being able to cruise at highway speed (if I were to make a dual sport out of it)
I've got a 250x right now. It's a perfect bike riding around with my kids on. It doesn't have a fan and rarely gets over 170 degrees. Most of the time it stays around 140-145. I do wish it had more power tho. I'll probably at least keep it until I see if what I get next will do the slow stuff as good as it does.
I have a 2019 450fx and I agree it is a very strong bike and it pulls hard. Which is perfect in my wide open and faster sections of the hare and hounds. Or just faster sections in general. What I did to mellow it out for the tighter rock sections I ride in a lot is to set the mild tune that comes with the tuner app from Yamaha when you download it and second I changed my gearing on the rear sprocket to a 48 tooth. This helped make the lower gears a little longer and when you are in the mild tune it really made that bike settle down and much easier to ride and let the rear tire hook up. The bike is really an amazing bike and really makes it easy out in the desert or in the rock areas. The suspension in the stock setup with the lighter guys like myself. I’m 170 lbs myself and what I did was switch out my fork oil from stock which I think is a 5wt and I dropped to a 2.5wt and it worked out perfect. The front end is super smooth and plush.
@@elianlopez7121 they are virtually the same bike for the most part. The we doesn’t have the map accessibility that the fx has and the Wr is tuned down quite a bit but it can be tuned up to be just like the fx check out the team that races the finke race in Australia. The Yamaha team uses the wr and it is quick. It really all comes down to your ability and what you normally ride. If you ride a bunch of fire roads and do trail riding most of the time, the wr would be better. I race the expert class in national hare and hounds and desert racing so I need the extra bark that the fx has.
@@elianlopez7121 the fx would be able to do the fire roads as well, you just have to mess with the different tunes it comes with on the power tuner app. When I am in the real nasty rocky or slower technical sections I switch to the mild map. And the makes it really nice a very manageable.
I am curious to know what map settings you were riding? Did you change or experiment with different map settings? Also, were you running stock gearing on it?
I only ever have used the stock loaded maps. All the tech stuff was in the hard terrain map. Some of the fast stuff was in the Moto power feel map. Aside from flaming out more easily in the Moto map, I didn’t really notice much difference in how useable the power was between the two in higher speed stuff. Stock gearing. I actually think the gearbox on this thing is a huge strong point. I should have talked about that more lol. But I didn’t wanna just do what every other review of the bike does and talk about tech specs because those don’t mean shit haha.
I've been on a 450 for 10 years now. Does this bike still have the same power of the motocross version or is it mellowed out. I'm getting into woods riding but I still want the thrill of ripping fire roads and passing guys that think they're quads are fast until I'd pass them in a wheelie. Does this bike fit that bill?
It’s unnoticeable different if at all. I rode a 2023 yz450f and can’t say it felt any slower. They’re different for sure with the updated motor but the fx is by no means dumbed down.
My friend bought a 450 as a trail bike. And I tried explaining just how terrible that idea is. It’s yet to see any trails. We have nothing but tropical jungle and lots of mud, roots, logs, slick rock and hills.
How is he liking it? Sounds like he needs a 230 air cooled play bike? If he has the money for a new 450fx, maybe a Rekluse auto clutch would help? I have a '23 Husqvarna TE300, but also bought a KLX230R for a 'work-bike' to putt around prepping trails etc for race WEEKENDS. Also perfect for casually riding around on the property /riding with the kids. Electric start, fuel injected... Love both so far.
I am looking at a new 2022 YZ450FX and am retired and a average rider that rides in far northeastern Wisconsin woods I ride fire roads and dual track logging roads no single tracks. Would this motorcycle be a good choice for this type of riding? I am 6 foot and165# and don't ride real fast. Or is this bike just too aggressive for this type of riding. Thanks
I think there are much better options for sure. It’s totally uncomfortable to ride mellow on 2 track, it’s so touchy that every bump in the road will blip the throttle enough to jerk you lol. The WR would be a better option. A little more mellow from factory. I’ve enjoyed the newer Ktm 450/500’s too. Buuuut I’d get the WR if I had to pick.
How do you think it would handle for a 6'3" 235lb rider with gear? Would I need to adjust the suspension? I've been looking into getting one because my KLX 300R is getting a little boring. I understand it's a whole different animal, but I'm a pretty good rider and have been on 450s alot, but you got me nervous for sure 😂
I've got a 23 450FX and she is a beast. As for the suspension, I did respring everything as I am a 260lb rider and I couldn't get my race sag to 100-105mm. After bumping up the springs it does feel a bit stiffer but good. Unlike the poster of the video, I actually brought my bars back to the closer spot on the triple clamp as I felt the bars were too far forward initially. I noticed at first I thought the bike was too twitchy but after 5-10 hours on it it's now totally smooth. My 15 year old son and my 13 year old love riding it too. It's a great bike!
Yes it does have that. I didn’t feel it was really worth talking about. There are plenty of other videos that go into that. Yes, the button is nice and the maps make a difference in the tech stuff. But I don’t think it really makes the bike rideable or unrideable more so either way.
Effortless and forgiving 2 stroke …. Haha def not a yz250 had 2 of those things made me work but made me better rider to 300exc on the other hand feels more chill what’s the easiest 2 stroke these days husky ?
That would be a wild assumption lol. They put it in their rental fleet then sell it as used end of season. “Loaned” means I don’t own it. By no means implies it’s a showroom bike that I’m just testing to be resold as new.
It’s so smooth and light! I’ve had a couple people comment on how it’s lighter than their Ktm hydros. I think it feels about the same pull as a properly functioning one.
it almost sounds like you're talking about my 2022 drz400sm but that's after I finished a stage one upgrade haha. I'm sure even with all I've done to my bike that yz450 could still destroy me in a race xDy carburator is ripped off an old yz450! modified it instead of shelling out all that bread for an FCR
My humble opinion i ride a little xc and i ride a klx 300r even is a heavy bike i have a blast i think a 450 is a over kill for the average rider and blame the bike as an excuse of lack of skills by the way this yammy looks sick

Had a 2019 and that was really an awesome scoot. All that pissed me off was the hotstart set up.
Thanks for the shout out!! Great video!
Yeah dude!! Pumped to ride with you again.
@@BeRAD absolutely !!!
love my 21450fx!!! thing is sick, got my suspension set up by speed tech in MI cuz thats where i ride. The power!!! super strong!!! 81 hours and still havent touched the motor, getting close those... GO YAMAHA!!!
Would you look at that. You’ve made it to spam status, Brad! 🎉
Rad vid as always. Keep ‘em coming!
I thought I could rip a 450 pretty well on the trails, then I watch your vids. Make me feel slow😂
I'm not a super experienced rider. More intermediate and I love my wr450f but I use mine for trails and bite of a daily, yet 100% agree very glad I started on 125s and 250s
Did your bike leak some coolant out of the overflow tube when it was new.?
The laid back feel is common on the Yamahas and I find they just don't seem to turn as well as other brands.
They do. Tap the rear brake and boom
How tall are you? I hear the footpeg to seat ratio is short. I’m 6’2 and worried it’ll feel cramped. Coming off a 450xcf.
Thanks
I put a G2 throttle tamer on mine, made a big difference
got mine still in shipping crate
Awesome review and riding! Looks like an awesome bike
Great points for teaching riders on what to buy. More bike reviews would be great!
amazing trials riding skills bro!
I need to do more moto-practice days lol. GForce was always good to me on the front range, they should expand to the Western Slope
Were you using the correct tire? Makes a HUGE difference.
The 2023 wrs are pretty much the same bike with lights when you get the competition ECU
Damn dude. You are rippin this thing. All those rock hops and splatter’s-impressive on a 450. 👌👌
This 2023 450 made my 2stroke start sitting an collecting dust. Yes I like it an have no complaints for my style of riding. #I love thump and can be lazy when want which makes my time faster
Thanks!! more videos on this bike please!! I have 22 450fx
They need to make a 450 dualsport to compete with honda and the ktm clones wouldn't hurt to have more selection of street legal dirtbikes
I have over 200 hours on my 19 450fx.
They are amazing bikes!! So much fun and still ridable in tighter steep terrain
Any rebuild on the top end?
@@dereckrodriguez9688 nope
How much oil did you put it ?
@@elianlopez7121 I can’t remember what the spec is for it off hand. I just filled it with the amount specified in the book.
What do you recommend me 450FX 2023 or WR450F 2022
Does it have the air fork this year?
"Don't buy this bike" so theres more for me 😝lol great vid 🤘
Really drew me in with the "don't buy this bike"
Mission accomplished
My dad has the 99' or the 02' yz450f and I want to ride it so bad!
I think you need to test 250fx soon 🇺🇸
One whiskey throttle and Elon may be giving you a call to talk about space travel! 😂😂
Great video!
I have this exact bike. Its definitely the most fun bike ive ever rode
is it possible to calm down the bike by changing the map?
I've been on a 450 for 10 years now. Does this bike still have the same power of the motocross version or is it mellowed out. I'm getting into woods riding but I still want the thrill of ripping fire roads and passing guys that think they're quads are fast until I'd pass them in a wheelie. Does this bike fit that bill?
It’s unnoticeable different if at all. I rode a 2023 yz450f and can’t say it felt any slower. They’re different for sure with the updated motor but the fx is by no means dumbed down.
“Hell yeah brother” 🤘🏼
Awesome review
Where is the thumbnail taken from? What are the mountains in the background?
Moab Utah. La Salle mountains
Great video! I wish I could ride a bike this amazing.
I just bought my husky fe450 from Zach a few weeks ago!
Where to get all the enduro parts ??? (radiator & disc brake protector?)
My website! Link is in the description. BeRAD-Products.com
I wish I could Afford one of these 😭😭😭
I am looking at a new 2022 YZ450FX and am retired and a average rider that rides in far northeastern Wisconsin woods I ride fire roads and dual track logging roads no single tracks.
What about 250fxwill be some testing on that bike too?
Imo you only need a 450 for off-road riding if you do hill climbs
@@ErnieScavinckyVideo awesome! I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but it really seems like a good fit for me. What type of springs did you go with?
@@lukef5370 I contacted Racetech and they got me what I needed. Changing the springs is an easy job to do.
cease & desist definitely coming from yamaha just for that title lmaooo
Looks good to me. Tomac and Ping love it
i just got a 2019. does the 2023 have the yamaha tuning app? and the button on the left to toggle between two different modes?
Yes it does have that. I didn’t feel it was really worth talking about. There are plenty of other videos that go into that. Yes, the button is nice and the maps make a difference in the tech stuff. But I don’t think it really makes the bike rideable or unrideable more so either way.
Effortless and forgiving 2 stroke …. Haha def not a yz250 had 2 of those things made me work but made me better rider to 300exc on the other hand feels more chill what’s the easiest 2 stroke these days husky ?
2Smoking for life👌🏻👍🏻🇦🇺
Loaned it? Then still sell it as New?🤔
That would be a wild assumption lol. They put it in their rental fleet then sell it as used end of season. “Loaned” means I don’t own it. By no means implies it’s a showroom bike that I’m just testing to be resold as new.
I ride a blaster never rided a dirtbike but ima buy the wr250f
How is the cable clutch in comparation to KTM hydraulic clutch?
2 stroke for live❤
I used to say that until I got a 250fx. Now I just feel bad for guys on chain saws
@@thepatternforms859 ride what the f u want! Its personal preference!!! I just expressed my live for 2 strokes. I'm riding a KTM EXC 300 (carb) and it's the best thing I've ever ridden.
