That means you don't understand about economics. To put it simply, most Americans are wealthier than most Indonesians because USA is a wealthy country. It's mostly not about the currency. An example of this is Timor Leste. Timor Leste uses US Dollars as their currency and most people there only make a few hundred dollars a month, which is worth a few million Rupiah, compared to most Americans who make thousand dollars a month.

I dont know why but Indonesian food, Malaysian food and Thai food look so appeal to me. I've tried beef rendang canned (not fresh and authentic) from AEON Malaysia, i bought it as a souvenir for my family in VN without knowing what it is :))). But it tastes insanely good. I'll definitely put Jakarta and Bali into my bucket list next year!
@Nigel Mulliniz Sorry but Indian food has an acquired taste and special spices that I can't stand with, so honestly I do not like it. I did try some Chinese noodles in Melaka and KL and it's quite different to what I had back home in China Town in Vietnam. But next time I'll definitely try more.
There are so many misinformation that Rachel gave.. I think i have to clarify some : 1. Nasi Goreng Gila is not called crazy because of the spiciness.. But it's because of the big portion, and many things put in it. They add noodles, and lot of vegetables with the rice. 2. And not all Jakartans like spicy food. Jakartans are consist of various ethnic across the country. They don't have the same likings. 3. It's not Grouse. Grouse don't live here. It's a Fried Pigeon, or sometimes Teal. 4. Gudeg Egg is not brown because of the brown sugar..but because of the tea leaves.. 5. Gudeg is totally not fermented!

@I tell THE TRUTH!! You must have not been to America. America is like land of junk food. All they do is put cheese and bacon on everything. It's not a seasoning to them, it's a lifestyle. Indonesia is like the America of Asia, their food is full of sugar and butter. Most of their food are variations of other SEA food but looks like it was prepared by a kid. Just add more condensed milk, sugar and butter.

if you go to manado north sulawesi, you'll get a whole different culinary experience compared to Jakarta. Same applies for Yogyakarta central java, Makassar south sulawesi, and Bali. The thing with indonesian food is, no other place can even compete with the original location. Just like the gudeg you ate at Jakarta can't compare to the original one at Yogyakarta (like Gudeg Yu Djum). You should go those original locations! Those places have mindblowingly tasty foods
you right only if someone has long time experiences with Indonesian food. But for the new ones, Jakarta has been doing many modification those culinary to have acceptable tastes. Jakarta is one of my favourite food destinations in south east Asia. For a year Jakarta was my second home and I got plenty of chances to explore the city. Incidentally I spent a good part of it in Sabang and the food market was a regular haunt. There’s something for everyone. From uber affordable delicious street snacks to Michelin star gourmets. Jakarta also offers plenty of options to explore the cuisines from the other prominent islands and they all have their distinctive flavours. Martabak is by the way unforgettable decadence. Love the city. Love the people.
You didn't mention what type of egg the Martabak was made from. I know in Yogyakarta, it's usually made with duck eggs, which I have to say blow away chicken eggs in flavor. I miss good Martabak sooo much. Indonesia is a paradise for foodies. I miss living in Yogyakarta and Salatiga (Central Java) which for me was my 2nd home. I've been to over 15 different countries around the world and I have to say that Indonesia is my favorite country that I've been to or lived in. Wonderful people, low-crime, amazing cultures and amazing foods. Indonesians in general know how to really enjoy and savor every moment of life.
Maybe if you want to visiting Yogyakarta again, ask your friend or someone there to join you. I wonder, your friend first time taste a god damn Martabak. (Your friend that didnt know about Indonesia). And ask them, Martabak is a heavy dessert.

Margarine is cheaper. You have to pay more if you want to switch it to butter, but it's worth the price. I love my martabak with nice fragrance of butter.
A small correction... we don’t commonly call the establishment “kedai”. We call it “Kaki Lima” or K-5 which literally means 5 Legs... which represents vendors (3 wheels/legs) on side of the streets that gets pushed around by a person (2 legs) ... “ Kedai” would be use on a fixed building establishment. 👌🏼

There are so many misinformation that Rachel gave.. I think i have to clarify some :
5. Gudeg is totally not fermented!

chill out she's been abroad for long period of time
yep, and thats indeed an unlaid egg, not "only the yolk-egg"

Jakarta is one of my favourite food destinations in south east Asia. For a year Jakarta was my second home and I got plenty of chances to explore the city. Incidentally I spent a good part of it in Sabang and the food market was a regular haunt. There’s something for everyone. From uber affordable delicious street snacks to Michelin star gourmets. Jakarta also offers plenty of options to explore the cuisines from the other prominent islands and they all have their distinctive flavours. Martabak is by the way unforgettable decadence. Love the city. Love the people.
Please visit Jakarta again sista 😍🙏
Where you from wigon
if you watch closely, he ordered the one with duck egg
Orang indonesia yg tinggal di luar negeri tapi ngk neko neko dandananya sederhanatapi tetap cantik...menjujung tinggi budaya ketimuran.........salut ama mbak nya....🙏🙏🙏

10:53 okay,,, this is the other side of indonesia.. Some people doesn’t have enought money to get by and children are forced to sell things to help their parents get money. Poverty is an issue in Indonesia that needs to be solved immediately. I hope that beautiful little girl will have a bright future and good education, amin.
Amiin
you're right! @Akabane uwu indonesian govt needed to prove their Humans right police/rules but sometimes we can't do anything we only can pray.
such a beautiful little girl...I wish she bright future
And she very beatifull litte girl.
@IamVorDee, open your eyes. Accept the reality.
I got very hungry watching these! I love Indonesian 🇮🇩 food! 😋😍 -from the Philippines 🇵🇭
0:24 the girl mentioned in jakarta they love spicy and in Java they prefer sweet. I think it's slightly untrue. We've got to be more specific, which part of java. I myself live in East Java and the majority of people lives in East Java love spicy food as well, esp. in my hometown Surabaya, at the further east of java we love spicy and savoury with slightly salty flavour
True
Hello Syantik
Bener mbak, jawa timur malah banyak makanan pedes2
Mungkin maksudnya Jogja.
True. I feel same way. Tulungagung loves spicy food. Maybe she mean central java, because 4 years I lived there almost food had sweet taste.

kuntilanak beranak Stop being dumb. You don't even know what she will become.
I dont get why every martabak manis sellers (everywhere) give their customer a ton of margarine.
Seems like they have an agreement to do that, and they will punish a seller who give a normal size of margarine 😁😁
BUTTER > MARGARINE. FIGHT ME
Take Your Time butter is pricey in indonesia. even cheese. and margarine is fucking cheaper. butter gives better better better better taste thats why its pricey.
@@takeyourtime5025 go fight her.
Margarine is cheaper. You have to pay more if you want to switch it to butter, but it's worth the price. I love my martabak with nice fragrance of butter.
Didnt see you coming here dude. You really are everywhere.
Anak kecil yg ngasih tissue, gw kira bule juga anjir 😅

You go to Jakarta without tasting "kerak telor"??
Such a sin, such an oversight.
Hardly anyone wants to eat that anymore.
Bukan nya ada di deket prj ya

Lol
Make a youtube channel
@NoMercy Ossas kontak wa?
👌🏼
Did you said JALAN SABANG? OMG, I used to go there for dinner and lunch because I worked just around the corner. I miss you Indonesia and the street foods 😭😭😭😭
"I hope she grows up to be a CEO" 😁... Say amen...
CEO of racism
@@tommylovesdogsandcats4213 You can't say that, that's racist!
Why should she aspire to be a CEO? They have to be involved in corruption and corporations are notoriously unfair to workers. She is already a successful vendor, developing people skills.
Indonesia : The heaven of high callories food, but in reality their obesse rank is very low XD
because we are life in equator.. callories didn't works here.. 😁😁😁😁
we are already immune from obesity, lol
the portion size in the US is much bigger, indonesians don't eat much compared to them
Alright, That's fucking right lol😂
Because these are not staple food.
Not all Javanese region has sweet delicacy. This is misleading information. Tegal and Brebes like savoury and spicy food, instead of sweet.
You're right, martabak is the most sinful dessert!
The best martabak I've tasted! I even bought another box to take home in Manila. Yummm!
You just stole 5000 rupiah from clown and run away😂
MischieVouSZ the name Ondel Ondel
Its sad when a child have to work selling tissue around :(
Is that the Unlaid Chicken Egg?
No it's the chicken egg but yolk only
I'm sad that non-Indonesian people know Indonesian cuisine more than the native Indonesian itself :')
Ikr 🙁
it is unlaid egg
Wait, why is it called unlaid egg? Is it because it hasn’t knock up yet?
it has not come out from cloaca yet. usually you get it from slain chicken
it's like a chicken abortion
With all of those nuts based foods people who have peanut allergies won't survive in Indonesia
What if she actually became a CEO
Yeah u can imagine someone life could be
It's gonna be damn good. let's pray
amen
I can say, we would be proud
Martabak is so good that you will stop counting calories. Haha I miss Jakarta!
