      @AB Harris I think de Ryter let the ANC know of the issues and he was blocked by them to do anything or they said they would look into it... like they look into everything. I believe that He trusted them too much to sort out problems. I think he should've given names and been more aggressive with handling the corruption by getting private security involved.

    The only POSSIBLE solution is to get rid of the ANC and get any anc cadres out of Eskom - Head Office as well as the individual power stations. The corruption is primarily in the Procurement offices where the anc cadres is awarding contracts to cronies.

    De Ruyter can not resolve issues at Eskom because:
    1) he inherited a basket of BEE tender beneficiaries that were 'qualified' to serve ESKOM based on BEE legislation;
    2) he has no powers to opt out of such appointees or change the BEE scoring process;
    3) although he reported the matter to most of the SAPS agencies, he cannot force these to do their job;
    4) he raised it with the Minister and other state officers and seemed to have been met with slander & accusations;
    5) when he attempted to weed out corruption, he was poisoned and was very lucky to have survived;
    6) seems that every attempt he made to clean up decades of corruption and abuse was met with threats and resistance;
    7) now the state blames De Ruyter of his "inadequate" management of ESKOM!!
    8) now the state declares itself totally blameless - purely an innocent observer!!
    If De Ruyter had simply said nothing and never acted to halt obvious fraud, everything would have been simply swept under the carpet
    and get another round of bailout would have been agreed; with the consumer left to carry the burden by increased costs year after year.
    Time for the state to stop kicking the can down the road. Their ill conceived 'empowerment' policies and inaction are ruining the country.
    Every one of the SOE's are disastrously managed and pose a drain on the economy. Each one of these would never survive as a privately
    run company. They'd all simply go bankrupt and fade away into the mists of time. The only reason they exist at all is to underpin the social
    engineering policies which amount to get rich schemes that 'uplift' a few well placed individuals close to the levers of power. Essentially the
    state is running the country alike a massively large 'ponzi scheme' - the victims are the thousands of hardworking citizens that are forced
    to pay into the scheme via fees, fines and tariffs the state imposes. The end result? The embedded stagflation SA has faced the last 2 decades.
    Entrench unemployment and an ever growing state dependency of which are included highly paid officials both at state and local government level.
    What amounts to a crude form of 'round tripping' of funds from state coffers and private sector resources. A fools paradise in which the appearances
    of social upliftment is resulting in the very stagflation the SARB is attempting to curb by increasing the cost of leveraging which will have the exact opposite
    effect as the private sector will reduce economic expansion in line with capital costs; thereby reducing the potential to create employment. In turn the state
    will attempt to bolster it ill conceived policy by employing even more people within the state - adding yet ever more inflation to an already far stretched economy.
    Simply a reciepy for disaster. All we need is for further foolhardy steps to be taken in the foreign policy department to end SA's participation in Algoa.

    Our Power production is being privatized silently in the background the same way as the police, postofffice, education etc has been. The state is busy eating and destroying itself. SA will become a place of more inequality where the competent will have and the incompetent will have not

    I don't think Andre De Reyter focused on writing a book. He has kept the government and the public abreast of what he was doing. The ANC is the sole shareholder, so Gordhan is talking through his neck.

    irrespective of what de ruyter said or did or didn’t, focussing on the ‘man’ and not the ball is disappointing from a stalwart that many of us held with such respect and as a role model.
    until the zuma era, the ANC always occupied the higher ground, which is what attracted many of us to the ANC and for which we relentlessly supported it.
    as far as i know, nomatter the circumstances, oliver tambo, ahmed khatrada, justice sachs, joe slovo, pres mandela, also pres mbeki et al, never ever went for the ‘man’.
    nomatter what anyone thought or thinks of them, their focus was on the mission.
    perhaps it’s when we have lost sight of the single simple clear and focussed mission of creating ‘a better life for all’ that the higher ground is lost, and we find ourselves on the low road where the narrative is defined by others, and we go there?
