DIY How to Change a Water Pump Impeller on Suzuki DT-55 [Suzuki DT-55 Water Pump Impeller]. There were a few things that went wrong when we did this, however, it was a learning experience. The impeller needed to be changed out as the thermostat light was indicating it was getting too hot which meant that not enough water was circulating to cool the motor which means that the impeller needs to be changed. They way you should change these every couple of years anyway. During attempted removal of the motor's lower half, two of the mounting bolts were corroded into place and subsequently got twisted off. We had to drill them out and replace the screws. One of the main take aways from this was to make sure to disconnect the shifting linkage. For this motor, it disconnects under the engine cover.

Right on!! If you ever do change the impeller be sure to disconnect the shift linkage FIRST. Thanks for commenting. ✌️

Hi guys. You could have saved yourself a headache by removing the shift link rod first. The bolts broke due to you not taking the shifter bolt out. Hitting it with the hammer before removing the lower bolt also under the electrode. I'll bet you regretted deciding to change the impeller. Tight lines and hope you got it sorted. I also have one and did a few videos on the DT suzuki

At min 3:05 you can see where that shifting rod is not flush that how mine it and I can’t get it to go back down so the seals and that rubber plug sits flush. Help please

I’ve run it with muffs on and inside 55 gallon barrel.. when I take the thermostat housing off I get great water coming out the pee hole and out the thermostat housing when I put it back on I have nothing out the pee hole.. I’ve ran water tru everything and no clogs at all.. has anything like this ever happen to you? Any place u can point me to? Thank you

Gosh that one has got me stumped but I’m no boat motor mechanic. Personally I’d check the forums and if no luck there, take it in. Just my 2 cents.

Yea you do unfortunately no videos on TH-cam show this step regarding separating gear linkage from lower unit very misleading for anyone following these videos although this video he does explain and point to it at 1:59

Just an estimate but when running in optimal condition probably between 30 to 40 pushing a 16 ft aluminium. Plenty fast enough for me:)
