I've had general anaesthesia a couple times. One time, the doctor inserted a needle in my arm and told me to count to ten. I only got to three and woke up. The operation was over. The anesthetic works so well with me that from the time I got to three to the time I woke up, it feels like just one second went by. I'm in such a profound state of unconscionous that my operations feel like they go at lightening speed. Amazing.

I’ve been under general Anaesthesia for a knee operation. Do not remember a single thing. I could have died during the operation and I never would have known. Honestly it tests the belief in God. Maybe when you die it’s like being under general anesthesia except it’s for eternity. Hard concept to grasp.

I was absolutely terrified of going under anesthesia. The night before my surgery I sat up crying and having anxiety. The day of my surgery I was shaking like crazy so scared. When they wheeled me in the room, it was cold and bright, and there were about 5 doctors. The one doctor put the oxygen mask over me and was asking me questions about my pets to distract me. Next thing I said was "omg my mouth is so numb" and my ears started ringing so loudly. Then I woke up in the middle of them wheeling me into the recovery room. It was honestly an incredible experience for the first time! Everyone is different and has had different experiences, but its not as scary as it seems!

      @aestheticb7843 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Wolf 0857 A few months ago I had four of my teeth removed! The anaesthetic itself isn’t that bad no, but 20 seconds?? The procedure can last anything from 20-40 minutes! But if you mean how does it feel, it’s like sleeping, you wake up the instant after even if it’s been 8 hours. I would say for me it was tricky to wake up as my eyes just refused to open, but after 5 minutes you can fully wake up. After the procedure I suggest taking paracetamol and ibuprofen often to help keep the pain away, however I’m sure your doctors will tell you all of that. If the anaesthetic makes you feel drowsy, just go home and sleep it off, after a day or two you go back to normal. Hope that helped!!

I have been under anesthesia 5 times in my life and my biggest complaint was that I didn't like the concept of being "here" one minute and then being "out" the next. It's a control issue with me and I would be just ridden with anxiety. So the last 3 times, I have asked my anesthesiologist to give me just a little bit of the drug(s) in the IV so that I can feel the effect but not be knocked out immediately. Each of them probably thinks I am nuts but they have graciously done it. I went in for major surgery last month and the conversation went like this: Anesthesiologist: "Okay...here is just a little bit of the first drug. Do you feel it?" Me: "Oh geez that feels so good." (And it DID!) Anesthesiologist: "Okay...here is just a bit more." Me: "Okay, I am going to sleep now....goodnight!" Next thing I remember: I'm in the recovery room. I have absolutely no fear of anesthesia anymore.

From a retired anesthetist be relieved you’re getting general anesthesia with an airway inserted. Many practitioners lie these days and say you are just getting sedation. Frequently the sedation gets stronger and stronger until your airway is inadequate and there is a problem without an airway inserted. If you have an eye surgeon that requires deep sedation it is better to start with general anesthesia and an LMA airway. It is safer with less chance of you being disoriented and wanting to “help”the surgeon. With reasonable health do not be afraid of general anesthesia. Be afraid of deep sedation without an airway.

Small doses of fentanyl are frequently added to this and relieves some pain. The problem is where there is extreme pain and more and more drugs are required. In that situation more local is what you need and not more drugs. Again with deep sedation you may not maintain a clear airway. Professionals are trained to manage this but it increases the risk.

I had surgery yesterday and went under general anesthesia for the first time. I was nervous, anxious any and everything in between. I have had two other surgeries but was in twilight sedation., fully awoke and aware of what was going on. My surgery yesterday I remember going in and them placing a mask on me, and that is it. I had a tube placed in for breathing and the hurts like hell. Worse than a sore throat but feels alot better today. They told me about three or four times to take a deep breath in the recovery room because my oxygen was dropping. I was going back to sleep. I remember them saying wake up and breathe. I said I’m awake my eyes just shut. They would not allow me to rub my eyes, not sure why. I think I was in surgery two hrs, I don’t know nor do I remember dreaming. I’m glad I got it over with and pick yesterday to have surgery, instead of today. My surgery was done here on base in Japan. Just pray or meditate before having surgery to calm your mind and relax your body. I thought with all the anxiety I was experiencing my blood pressure would be up but it wasn’t at all, oh and we had a 5.2 earthquake before my surgery. I asked the doctor we’re we rescheduling he stated unless a tsunami was coming. Not funny we were stationed in Misawa, Japan 2011 earthquake…

i was so scared for my surgery, i kept telling them not to kill me and don't let me die on the operating table! they kept saying things will be ok. they moved me to the OR table from my hospital bed, put a warm blanket on me asked me if i was comfy i said kinda yeah, and they said ok we're gonna start your IV now i said ok sounds good. next thing i know i'm waking up 1 second later with a nurse flashing a light in my eyes asking me basic questions. apparently it was a 4 hour operation and went smoothly. 7 total hours between prep and when i woke up. I'm still in total disbelief at the entire process.

I just had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and went under general. It was pretty cool. As they rolled me to the OR they injected something in my IV to “take the edge off”. I remember them moving me to the table. I remember looking at the 2 lights above me then over at the table with a bunch of shiny instruments. They put a mask on my face and said it was oxygen. I don’t think I counted to 3 before I was out! Next thing I know I hear someone call my name and I wake up in the PACU 3 1/2 hours later dreaming about work saying I like my job. Pretty cool experience.

All I remember was being transferred to the surgical bed, and bam. I woke up in recovery. My nurse told me that when I woke up initially, I was laughing non stop and kept saying “I didn’t know that I was out”. She said I made everyone laugh, lol! Then, she said I went back to sleep for about 30 minutes. the entire thing was interesting to say the least. I wasn’t afraid while under for one second. It was just a really deep, peaceful sleep. NOW, recovery on the other hand... that’s been the worst part of this whole ordeal.

I've been under 10 times in my life; it was on my 6th go I discovered propofol triggers my anxiety. Pretty scary losing consciousness feeling your heart pound out your chest. I think it has something to do with knowing it's coming made worse by feeling the warm-ache of the propofol entering my bloodstream.
Ever since that time I've told my anaesthesiologist and asked for the clear stuff instead of the white stuff.
Last 3 times I've had the same guy and each time he gave me a tiny shot of something before the IV was attached propper and each time it felt like he poured an entire bottle of whiskey directly into my brain... Instant relaxation; it'd be great if that wasn't immediately followed by my brain forgetting for to work and everything going dark within 5 seconds.
Whatever that stuff was, it must have been some "whale tranquiliser level shit".

@Tanya Duncombe I don't understand why they make you unconcious for the eye surgery. Even in his case they did the same. Over here in India people get injections on the side of the eye to be operated, at least for cataract surgery and not that they make you unconcious. I had an eye injury when I was little and it has caused traumatic cataract in one of my eye (doctors said it has to be hand operated and laser surgery is not an option in my case unlike others'). As there is still manageable and stable vision in my affected eye and perfect vision in the other one, doctors say no need to hurry it's cool as such. I am 25 shy of 3 weeks by the way. I am not sure what kind of anesthesia I would be given if I opt for the surgery.

I have to have 4 teeth removed soon. I was just wondering will they fully put me under or just sedate me. Also what method will they use to do this. The mask or injection. Thanks

Samee. And depends how old you are and what you decide. I’m having 4 teeth out tomorrow, I’m 14 and I got the choice to have an injection or put to sleep. I chose to be put to sleep because I have a low pain tolerance, not that I’m scared of needles or anything I just would feel very uncomfortable with the pain. You usually get asked by your dentist what you want. Hope that helped! :)

TheSky No problem! A few hours ago I was put under anaesthetic. Depending on how old you are you get numbing cream on your hand and it works extremely well, I didn’t feel a thing. You might get an oxygen mask as they put you to sleep.
I was under for 40 minutes, I don’t remember falling asleep as it was very quick. It definitely didn’t feel like a few seconds when I woke up however, and I couldn’t keep my eyes open for the first five minutes. If you’re having teeth out usually you can’t talk or move your mouth very well at all but you can after about 20 minutes. My mum was sent in and I was wheeled to my bed. I tried to drink water but it kept falling out of my mouth😂 something to expect is that your tongue will feel huge and your lips will be the last thing to stop being numb. You may also not be able to close your mouth properly. You don’t feel any pain in your teeth though, and eating may be a little painful but nothing major. It’s about 4-5 hours after my operation and I’m perfectly fine now, no pain in any of my teeth or jaw yet, they tell you to keep on top of your pain relief medication as you may start to feel pain if you leave it too long. Once you’ve had the operation tell me how it went!
Hope this helped anybody else who is confused about anaesthetic too

TheSky I was scared of the exact same thing!😂
I would say it’s the equivalent of mildly tipsy and you just feel slightly happy lol. There’s nothing to worry about and after about 15 minutes or after you eat you start to feel a lot less groggy and it’s fine. Good luck! :)

I got my gallbladder removed and all these videos and even my parents were saying like oh you won’t remember a thing before anesthesia or even part of the day. It was my first surgery and I remembered everything though. 😭I remember being in recovery for hours before my surgery and then it was time. They gave me a drug to relax more and then wheeled me to the or. Like I remember the turns we made and a nurse passed by. I remember transferring to the steel table and they put an oxygen mask on me. Then he put a sticker on the side of my chest for like the heart monitor thing and then that was it.

Let me just say I literally was super nervous . I didn’t even count . One minute I was talking about …. Ya know what I don’t even remember. Anyone reading this there’s no need to be scared . I don’t even remember being wheeled to the surgical room and I dreamt a beautiful dream . I prayed to have the dream but I mean under anesthesia I actually wanted to finish the dream !! 😂😂😂😂
