I think this is how jazz music should be presented and how it should be appreciated. Up close and personal and full of interaction between musicians and audiences. So fun. I wish I could be there.
I know people will fight me on this, but best contemporary jazz recording. Accessible and you totally get the vibe from both the performers and a thoroughly engaged audience.
@@JL-bu8bz What do you mean by "traditional"? He's a SUPERB musician, and that's all you can say about Wynton Marsalis. Good music is timeless., by the way.
This bass player is holdin the whole group together! Everybody can soar with such freedom while the bass is keepin it tight for the audience to follow these birds flight! Superb!!!
Wynton's live albums... I mean Live at The House of Tribes, Live at the Village Vanguard, Live with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Every live album is pure gold.
Heard this on on the radio ;ast nite about 0130 or so on WDMA out of Miami. First off - this is an awesome station. Secondly .... I'm not familiar with Marsalis and didn't realize that he was more than a smooth Jazz guy.... This is an awesome performance. After listening to the whole album, nothing seems like a filler song on the album and this one will be worth buying.
An audience there to take the ride. Sends good performers to the moon. I remember Winton at Jazz Showcase in Chicago about this time with brother Branford in a Art Blakey tour. Winton looked like he was 15 but he grabbed that crowd and didn't let go. I new I had heard somebody special.
its so crazy to see the video of some of these tracks after immortalizing them in my mind, listening to the record before school, after school, night after night on repeat for years.. and the tracks that aren't on the record.. WOOOOOOOOO TOO HOT
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Marsalis and the great Roy Haynes play at JALC a couple years ago and I can say it was definitely one of the best experience of my life.
Génial comme toujours Marsalis et ses musiciens. Ceux qui le sont moins sont ces crétins qui clappent des mains et passent sans cesse des commentaires. Quand on est avec des maîtres, on se tait et on écoute!
This is JAZZ! These cats had one of those rarest of nights. Passionate and full of intensity. I am sure they won't forget this performance and thankfully it was recorded.
It's a shame that there are so many Wynton haters when all he wants to do is give us music like this and hope that we appreciate it. I would rather listen to Wynton and his many jazz configurations than just about anyone else playing today. There are some cats who I would equally yearn to hear but no one surpasses Marsalis.
are there many Wynton haters? I didn't know. But there's certainly one sure thing I won't do: talk about them. Next time anybody asks me "what is jazz" I'll give them the link to this video.
@@Blueaspen391 Yeah, there was a whole school of Wynton haters because of his stance on fusion and the avant-garde. Then, of course, there was his relationship with Miles Davis that had a bunch of people uptight. But Wynton has always been a champion of straight-ahead jazz and for that he deserves admiration, in my humble opinion. When I typed that comment it was a bit more on front street than it is now. But I'm sure there are still a few anti-traditional advocates running around. And those folks tend to hate on Wynton.
This recording comes through in low audio quality but the music makes up for everything compared even to lots of studio recordings. Thank you for uploading! 🙏🎺🎹✨👌💯

You aren't reaching that many though. But these days, there aren't many to reach. Discounting Europe, asia. Jazz is dead in the west.
I don't think Jazz is dead.
i think the same1!!! jazz is really fun!!! It'll be a while before it becomes pure academia hahahaç
it is dead in Mainstream Music

Agreed!
Ok but contemporany in terms at date. WM is a tradicional musician.

That bass player is getting ahead of himself at some points and you can see from time to time as Wynton turns to give him the eye 👁
agreed. WM picked these guys, so badass is the minimum standard.
@@rillloudmother oh...WM picked them and the dude is getting off beat several times! Yea...we think that's sooo bad-ass!

Great bass player, played in a session with him while we where students at Berklee College

Wow...the pianist on Cherokee just takes it to a Whole "NOTHER" LEVEL!!!!!
What I wouldn't give to live near a club like this.
My spirit is lifted. Thank you for posting
I'm surprised Wynton's trumpet doesn't melt on Cherokee - lightening pace!! The man is just that - the man.
Gabi In case you havent heard Arturo Sandoval or James Morrison of course...
You make me cry because you make me happy !!!
Thanks Wynton
Same here :)
Without a doubt, one of the many great recordings from Wynton Marsalis.
This concert was taken back in time when Bird and Dizzy played in jazz clubs this was how it should be done
I haven't been to a music place so intimate and casual with music so good in quite a long time.. Yes, Wynton Marsalis IS
its so crazy to see the video of some of these tracks after immortalizing them in my mind, listening to the record before school, after school, night after night on repeat for years.. and the tracks that aren't on the record.. WOOOOOOOOO TOO HOT
talk about being up close, this is the ultimate.
After watching the pianist solo during Cherokee, I came to the conclusion he practices his scales and arpeggios.
Great band. Great audience. They helped make the energy on this recording.
Wynton’s opening solo should be transcribed. Magnificent. A marvelous group.
This swings so f ing hard. thank god for this!
No words, absolutely massive jazz concert!
Human beings can go down level or can go high level, those guys represent for me a very high level.
Lord have mecy...Wynton Marsalis 🥰
Wyntons solo at 47:40- shows some amazing technique..burnin runs.
ya
Ryan Kisor on Cherokee, he’s One for Miles.
i would have been terrified if i was the sax player realizing the end of his solo signaled "okay your turn"
47:40 Amazing.......
Great live! Jazz is absolutely underrated among the all genres of music. Nothing is as intelligent as it.
Thanks very much for posting this.
Reminds me of playing at church with all of the "feedback" from the crowd. It must have been awesome to see that in person!
great footage, blowing my mind right now
This video is so good TH-cam played me this-a duplicate upload of what I just watched. And yes, I'm watching again TH-cam.
Every time listing, watching on bass player - his the boss :)
This is an amazing setting, composition, transitions, atmosphere and performance.
So much awesomeness in one hour. That Donna Lee tempo got my blood pressure too high haha
Music of the highest grade ! Hypnotic...

If there was an olympic sport for trumpeter, {living} Wynton Marsalis would be a gold medalist.

Wynton: "...what Is This Thing Called Love?"
Gurrl: "Mm mm what is this thang?"
Haddaway asks the same question years later LOL
Joe on drums... An unknown beast on the drums. Let it be known, Joe!
