true that but i think we all put too much credit on that dont forget we only have record of what happened mostly by roman text, so a bit in theyr way of telling the history, they were great a doing propaganda, but yeah Pyrrhus king of epirus had a really hard fought battle against rome and won, just think abou that he fought against the legion and he won ! even a pyrhic victory its a great feat, but he wasn able to monopolize on that and he fought to many war and trie to do too much at the same time, i could say he was as genius as alexander but he lacked is focus to do one thing at the time, if he had he will have burn rome to the ground

@@caspramio even in medieval time france was still leading ( france was to europe what is usa is for the world for 1000 years ) in 1700 something for every 3 european 1 was french, france was over populated and had a higly martial style of life, french in fact love war like really do, and i know it was a joke but every joke have a bit of truth so i have to defend my nation which i love very much

As I said, the video talks about medieval France and let's not forget how the chevauchée affected the potential in agriculture that France could have, that and the tides of war with the english and burgundians. it was because of the mistake of charlemagne, he was too powerfull and tought all his heir will be the same, he created a precedent when crowned by the pope, who had the real power ? charlemagne could elect cardinal and choose who the next pope will be as all the next emperor too but since theyr crowned by him and by god by extention who is the real "suzerain" and the "vassal" it was a fight for hegemony, just think what would have happend if the papacy had won ? it will been very scar world

More MEDIEVAL KINGDOMS ATTILA TOTAL WAR. We need it
First thing I did in this mod, other than installing the 4 turns per year mod, was play as the HRE. The only drawback with the 4 turns per year submod that every event occurs 4 times as fast. Also medieval crossbows were effective against armored knights, which is why most armies in this mod have so many. And since they have so many, it's impossible to charge all of them down without being hit by their others. What you should do is try to hold them down at once. Oh, and I don't know if this was just what happened in my playthrough, but most of your southern imperial vassals (vassals in italy, the swiss, and bavarians) will rebel in the late-game.
Even the alpha build is really polished, can’t wait to see how this looks later in development

I craked laughing as soon as Alex said "we need to APEASE the Pope"
I'm currently doing a playthrough as the Duchy of Lorraine and within 70 years I have steadily made enough diplomatic powerplays and arranged marriages that I have vassalized the HRE along with every other Catholic nation excluding Connaught (simply because I haven't bothered to sail up and meet them) and excluding Burgundy and Toulouse which I have eliminated. In addition to the Catholic Christian sphere I have also vassalized the 2 Eastern Christian Nations in Ethiopia and Eritrea and I am well on my way to vassalizing all of the Eastern Orthodox nations. I currently have nearly 1.8 million gold and am sitting at +72000 per turn and a food surplus of 300 with 12 standing armies (albeit only 2 of which are full stacks so far).
Basically you slowly build up power and resources while making every alliance you possibly can from within the HRE sphere and beyond, arrange marriages, expand you family tree. Once you are mighty enough and well loved enough across Europe, begin by ending you vassal status with the HRE, and then vassalize every non-HRE frontier state you can by arranging marriages with them.. At some point soon after this you will be able to vassalize the HRE thus vassalizing every tributary state of theirs by consequence. From there it should be easy and in theory you could probably even use the diplomatic cheese meta to begin slowly engulfing the Saracen nations into your empire if that's what gets you going...
I highly recommend to everyone to try some of the less powerful tributary states of the HRE and follow a similar meta as I have described. It's a slow start and a long grind to get to the point where you can wage massive wars but I am currently in a good position to begin waging war against the entire non-Christian world all at once at this point.
I know non-hoi4 doesn't usually work to well for you but anything that isn't hoi4 I will be up to watch

Alex, some random tidbits...
History: The expression that the HRE wasn't holy, Roman, nor an empire doesn't actually hold up on closer examination prior to the mid 1200s. Like many feudal nations across Europe, monarchs were generally pretty weak compared to their vassals (just look at the Barons' Wars and you should get the idea), although there were 2 notable emperors who attempted to centralize the HRE, to marginal degrees of success (Frederick I "Barbarossa" and Frederick II). The 1200s saw Kaiser Frederick II von Hohenstaufen, who was also the Duke of Swabia (a region in SW Germany that overlaps with modern day France and Switzerland) inherit the Kingdom of Sicily and push the borders of the empire to its furthest reaches. That particular emperor was also excommunicated 4 times, went on crusade (while excommunicated) and reclaimed Jerusalem with virtually no fighting (making his the most successful crusade after the first). After Frederick II died without an hier, however, the imperial electors couldn't agree on who should be emperor, so the throne sat vacant for 60 years, which lead to a spiraling faceplant where the various states acted on their own authority, even after an emperor was finally elected, leading to the infamous quote mentioned at the start.
Game: In my campaign I used the vassals as buffer states to protect me against any invasions (ie Poles) while I ate through France (with difficulty). It looks like you figured out how to use your vassals for defense. The imperial knights (Ritter is knight in German) are really good for you, but you can also build some religious structures to get access to the army rosters of the crusader states and the teutonic order.
Anyway, good video and I hope you continue with this campaign.

Is mod finished? Last I played it no ships and plenty of bugs. It became repetitive. But I love what they’ve done and finished product will be phenomenal!

I was playing as Nicea and I found that it was a bit of a steamroll so far, the AI factions didn't seem aggressive at all. Although I have only just reached the Caucusus and majority other religions so maybe that's where the challenge kicks in.

@@sauersaxon Prussia never was although the Teutons tried to become a part of it at some point in time. Later on the rule of the Hohenzollerns over Brandenburg-Prussia never saw these territories added to the HRE even with the "Kurfürst" of Brandenburg technically being a subject to the emperor. Prussia itself was a vassal to the Polish crown for the most part of the late medival and early modern era.

Nobles where always exeptionally nitpicky when it came down to titles and the likes. That's one of the reasons why the exact title was "König in Preußen (King in Prussia)" over "König von Preußen (King of Prussia)" The latter would've questioned the legitimacy of Polish-Lihuanian overlordship. Same goes for the German Empire. There was quite a heated debate because WIlhelm I. wanted to be the "Emperor of Germany" over "The Emperor of the Germans". The noble rulers of Bavaria, Baden and Württemberg refused at first.
It's just Wikipedia but it was the easiest way to give you a source that is not including hundreds of pages that are irrelevant for this particular matter.

Ah mate you get 5% of your total bank per turn. Just don’t spend anything for a few turns and you’ll be getting millions in no time. Think it took me about 50/60 turns of spending a little bit to be a millionaire. Then I could pretty much spend what I wanted

yea its very funny iv beaten all of france,england and taken all of italy and nord wester poland and basicaly all the middle europe and western europe and stuck all my troops in spain where i fight against the mors wich outnumber me like i did a battle with 2400 vs 7000 and i beat up 5000 of them and now all the east declared war on me so i just quited the campaing

This looks absurdly polished. A shame it's for one of the lesser known (?) Total War games. Feels odd buying Total War Atilla just for this mod. They probably should release it as a standalone thing, sort of a Gmod situation.
