Unfortuately. Now that TYT have replace the CPU chip with an unmarked Chinese clone of the genuine STM32F405VGT, it is going to be difficult to make the firmware work on the latest version of the MD-UV380 / RT3S The problem appears to be that the clone is not compatible with FreeRTOS (OS) which the firmware uses 😞 Possibly one of the people who bought one of these new radios, may be able to debug why FreeRTOS crashes, but unless TYT or Retevis send me a free sample of this radio, I have no way to even start investigating the problem :-(
Excellent explanation. I installed it just now on my Retevis and it works fine. Does the FM frequency range open more to 200-300mHz in this alpha version? Thanks for the good job.
The frequency range is the same as the GD-77, because the RF chip (AT-1846S) is the same as in the GD-77 RF PA and Rx amp stages are similar to the Baofeng RD-5R, but different from the GD-77. Use on 220Mhz band for Tx creates very strong hamonics on 2 x the Tx frequency, but this is similar to the GD-77
Hi, I installed OpenGD77 on my MD-UV380 for 4-5 months, and I realized that, I haven’t save „test” file. Will my radio be useable, if I would like to return to orginal firmware?
Is the pinout for the programming cable different on the RT3S to the Baofeng DM1701? I made my own cable for the DM1701 but my pc says the RT3S is an unrecognised device, its not a driver issue, its the USB itself failing to find a device ID.
Is it now possible to install on newer version of md-380? Maybe I should buy md-uv390? I cant find any seller that provides info about md (what year it is and what version).
Thank you for video and explanations. Question: Is the Hotspot function working in this firmware? It will be a great functionality, to use this HT in Hotspot mode, like in others radios like GD77 or DM1801. 73!
Hotspot function is working. Note. The USB connection on this radio is not as reliable as the GD77 even for codeplug data transfers etc, so will probably require more RFI screening than the GD77, otherwise the hotspot will disconnect
firmware files have been packaged as .zip for several months because the firmware is now separated into firmware executable and language pack, as file size of both the firmware executable and all the merged languages was larger than the total ROM of the MCU in the radio You need to use an up to date version of the OpenGD77 CPS which supports the .zip packaged files
@@vk3kyy I unzipped the file and installed the Boot. Installed CPS but it wants a Serial Port. I have the USB device in DFU mode. How do I get that to work?

@@TTymek There are no plans to add a record function to the OpenGD77 firmware. The focus is to finish the port to this radio, as currently some features in the GD77 version do not work in this version. It takes a very long time to get the firmware working on every new radio. So there are still many months of work before the port to this radio is even finished.

Did you write contacts or ID's . It seems unlikely that your wrote 100 ID's as each country has thousands of IDs which the CPS downloads from www.radioid.net on the DMR ID's screen
Yes. FYI. Some batches of10W versions of this radio had manufacturing problems with the brightness of the LCD screen. However TYT now seemed to have resolved their manufacturing problems. 5W versions didn't ever seem to have this problem
No. The radio only had on RF chip. It can only receive 1 frequency at a time. You can scan multiple channels, but this is not receiving 2 frequencies at once
This looks really interesting, I can buy a TYT MD-380/RT-3S in the UK quite easily, I was trying to get a GD77 but I haven't found one for sale new or used. Is there any downside going for one of these over the GD77?
RF hardware is not as good as the GD77. Battery life is not as long, as the radio takes more current. But it's currently impossible to buy a GD77, probably because of the global chip shortages, as the CPU in the GD77 is basically unobtainable at the moment.
What is the overall functional improvement? What are the sat keps used for in this radio? Very nice changes and I will be doing the change if for nothing more than a better uncluttered screen I can put into inverse mode. I don't see at all in one eye and the others not far behind.
I put the open GD77 on my Baofeng RD-5R works great and I love it. Can I put this on a new Retevis rt3s without having to put original software or updating firmware? Do you know how many contacts can be put in Retevis rt3s with open GD77?
You have to follow the steps listed in link, in the description to install the firmware. The firmware uses the GD77 codeplug format, which AFIK has the same number of "Contacts" as the official firmware. However, I doubt you mean Digital or FM Contacts, because no one needs over a thousand of each type of contact in their radio. I suspect you mean DMR ID's for callsign and name lookup. In which case the maximum number is just over 2 million.
