Valve considering the steam deck steamos "beta" is both so exciting given how polished it already is but also so incredibly frustrating knowing that the full steamos 3 won't be out for years likely.
@papermacheapple5986 That's not how it works. They're still will be using windows 10, even if after the end of the support and SteamOS is released, Linux might not be the only solution for them as long as Anti-Cheat games outside of Steam exists. For me that the only two things that kept me from removing windows completely is GamePass and GTA FiveM RP.
Well, technically there has been the Steam Runtime 3.0 (Sniper) (eventhough Sniper is the 9th class, and they got the first 2 correct) for Steam for Linux, but I think SteamOS 3 is older than that so probably yes
Man, 2025 is already looking great for Valve. Mike Shapiro gave us a teaser on Twitter, and TF2 has a satisfying ending. Half-Life 2 is getting an RTX remaster, and we're getting SteamOS 3 soon. Man, I can already tell the rest of 2025 will be insane.

1:18 Did you alter the text to say "devices" instead of "handhelds", or did Valve update that blog post to make it more clear that they don't mean Desktop?
I would be awesome if Valve would release a desktop version of their arch based OS with valve themed stuff and just like they do with games just post a description of the Minimum/Recommended/Required hardware to have what they would set to be the standard experience with their system. That would solve the problem of not launching it because the customer might not have the specified setup.
I have installed popOS, which is derived from Ubuntu, on my old gaming PC, which does not support Windows 11. I used popOS because under popOS you can install Steam directly from their app store. The popOS version that I installed includes the pre-installed 530 and 540 versions of the NVidia drivers. Unfortunately my GTX760 graphics ceased to be supported after version 470 the proprietary NVidia Linux driver. This is not recent enough to support Proton and so the only games that I can install from my steam library are Mad Max and Serious Sam 3, which use OpenGL and old games which use DOSBOX. I believe that SteamOS would similarly struggle on my popOS PC due to the lack of Nvidia drivers for old NVidia cards. I am searching for the oldest and cheapest AMD graphics card that is fully supported by Steam so that I can play more modern games such as Fallout 4 on my old popOS PC. The lesson that I have learned is to never again buy an NVidia graphics card. I have an AMD RX6700 XT graphics card in my new Windows 11 gaming PC.
Doubt it. They sell steam deck on loss to popularize steam os. Now that it's popular it's better for to put all focus on the os and let third party develop new gene of handle. Valve never have interest becoming console producer. Their goal is always game distribution as a platform
@ If Valve created games, why do they take a decade to release them? As for third-party developers, they have been supporting them for decades. Valve should split off teams or hire a third-party company for game development.
I can kind of see Valve in the distant-ish future requiring SteamOS Support to be mandatory in order to cut off total Microsoft dependence. Obviously this would also include the implementation of easier support. Especially with the disdain for Copilot. Wishful thinking but I mean nothings impossible.
