@@holmanthehorror6127 True, but Valve's strategy is different. Their hardware, like the Steam Deck, isn’t about establishing a long-term position in the hardware market-it’s about expanding their addressable market for software. @@holmanthehorror6127 Most of Valve's 30% cut comes from third-party games on third-party hardware. (Ps5 performance) and I hope it using GDDR6 Vram with at least 256 bit bus and system memory (ddr5) 4 to 8+ GB to run the os and background task. DDR5 or DDR5x does not even come close same bandwidth as Vram with 256+ bit bus. It’s ok for handheld/mobile device. But system memory is not good enough for desktop like console like box. Great video. One thing I’ll note is that Valve isn’t really paying the average person in their games division over 1 million dollars. The total salary budgeted for each team is heavily skewed towards the top team leadership. Everyone has a very nice salary but everyone in the games division is closer to the $200,000- $450,000 range.
Nah, other gamestudios gonna be cooked. I thought FromSoftware and Valve are gonna make it big but Sony bought FS and is probably gonna destroy it by making the new games PS5 exclusive.
From soft was done anyway. From a legit stand point, all they’re doing is making demon souls again and again, while it’s been bass ass, it’s also done. Elden ring was the last nail in that, I ain’t ever playing another demon souls clone again. Sony bought a dead studio.
Video games have to be console exclusive. They have to be. If you don't have a library of games exclusive to your console, there's no incentive to buy it. This is part of the reason why everyone says "The PS5 has no games". A good chunk of games you can buy on it, you can just buy on PC. Either that, or they're games you can already get on PS4
@magmachicken4402 Elden Ring is their most successful and popular game, and it was won game of the year and its DLC is nominated for the current game of the year, they are at their highest point right now.

No other gaming company commands my respect more. I've been behind them from the very start, and aside from very few misfires, this company puts out masterpieces. In Valve We Trust.
except when they arent stopping the huge gambling circle that is cs skins....
@Oryzen I mean they can always just stop buying skins lol
@@alissiarosadelaguatl6140 ahh yes the good ol „well just stop gambling“. What’s next? Stop being poor? Just stop doing dr*gs? Well just go find a job? Great argument.
@Oryzen I mean yeah you can just stop gambling. You can't just stop being poor, in fact poverty can come from gambling. Stop fucking gambling & have discipline. It isn't a circumstational thing. It is entirely behavioral.

This title is so funny considering Valve popularized loot boxes and created an entire gambling industry around selling gun skins.
Great article about this yesterday in Barron's.
Valve is famously libertarian - so you may not agree with those but as far as lootboxes etc go; at least they are always purely cosmetic.
That was always going to happen, but you're just butthurt they won't go full Activision because you can't handle them breaking your worldview of all corporations being mustache twirling villains.
@@demivideos8887and you can just use workshop skins. So lootboxes are more of a dono system than anything with valve
They weren't even the first to do so.
They didn't hire "the entire Hopoo studio". Hopoo fired a bunch of people and Valve hired a few designers.
Man imagine being hired by valve you could legit go to any job with zero problems if you experience from valve on your belt
but why would you? Valve employees get to live the high life
@comet.x yea, but they have high standards so they are not so lenient with you.
Thats the reason why having experience in valve is valuable.
@@comet.x Like anywhere, there are likely downsides with working at valve. They've been through periods of creativity being stifled by jaded old heads, and they've seen tons of work go into projects that never eventually end up launching because they're afraid of not innovating enough or meeting expectations. In a way, that's likely very soul crushing, but not saying there are tons of advantages to being part of valve, and thus basically on top of the gaming world. It also doesn't take just anyone to get into Valve, you likely would have had to go through a TON of work and innovation, trial and error, to even be considered talented enough to be a part of Valve's machine, and ultimately you are expected to continue that drive or else you'll quickly end up not finding a place within the company.
@@comet.x they cancelled projects in favor of others, and theyve pretty much been dormant for nearly over a decade valve innovating is still relatively new

im worried what will be when gaben passes though
We're all worried. I don't have hopes on his son. He doesn't seem as interested and/or knowledgeable. Hope I'm completely wrong.
Valve goes public, made a ton of bad decisions, crash
Valve employees say there won't be much of a difference -- the board of directors runs things just fine without him. He is entirely focused on his non-Valve projects and has been for years. I wish him good health and longevity all the same.
nothign bad really. theres a interview with gabe and robin walker from the release of HLA, and gabe mention in a way that the day gabe steps down, robin will probably take the torch of leadership
I don't understand the whole idea behind this concern -- Valve is clearly maximizing shareholder value, and always has been. They are the most profitable company in the world. Their executives live on personal superyacht fleets. If Valve went public, they would likely become less profitable, as they would have to comply with laws.
10:07 - Half - Portal: Left 4 Global Dota 3 (ARG edition)
I think valves strat is threefold
1. Next half life game (3)
2. Next generation OS for steam deck etc
3. Steam OS to be THE standard of desktop PC games
4. Steam OS as a standard for next-gen consoles
5 Hardware to drastiacally compete with prices on 3. and 4.
Valve has, with steam, built a powerhouse to finally knock windows out the... window..
any valve console will never compete properly with either big console, let alone windows. but it might bring about more competition and pressure in the console market, if it sells at least alright
I don't see a reason why Valve would make a console when they can just make a computer.
E.g. the Steam Deck, which is literally just a laptop running Arch.
@@Skeletons_Riding_Ostriches consoles pretty much are computers nowadays anyway, their architecture is practically the same. A steam console would be no different.
I love valve because they love linux ❤❤❤❤
Youuu made me love you - I didn't wanna do it *images of proton, kernel and mesa dev, standalone foss steam controller configurator*
i'm on linux because of valve. thankfully they made it viable because i don't know what i would do if i was still stuck with windows when win10 goes EOL
@@GraveUypoWhat's so bad about W11? Genuinely curious, I remember people saying W7 was the last great Windows, now everyone is nostalgic for W10.

It took Valve 14 years to port Half-Life to Linux.
valve is like that cool uncle that brings you cool gifts you never forget but only shows up once per year
the right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world
It feels like Valve could be a case study for how the right people in charge plus, very importantly, PRIVATE trading, can insulate a company from negative industry changes.
me when he didnt talk about the 7th tf2 comic:
a quick note: we already knew that eli could see gman; you can tell by the dialog he had with gordon in ep2 before the striders
i think valve should get gianni to voice every single character in hl3. that way we would finally have the indie game wet dream.
That would be funny
he voices gordon freeman in hl1 and hl2 vro
@GameWorldReality Lies, I voiced Gordon in HL1, HL2 and the episodes. I also voiced Adrian Shepherd in opposing force
Real talk tho, a cameo at least would be awesome
@@reptiliannoizezz.413 tbh i wouldnt doubt it.
“Guess who’s back? Back again?”
“Gabe is back; tell a friend!”
I am genuinely excited for ALL of these projects, because Valve could be the company that saves current-gen gaming.
A butt load of gamers WILL get their hardware and games and the competition will just stand and stare wondering how did they do it
They can do it because they sell hardware at a loss because they can recoup from their 30%. Nobody else is in a position to do that.
@@AlexFairmontThat’s true with all the major console manufacturers though, at least with the base models.
@@holmanthehorror6127 True, but Valve's strategy is different. Their hardware, like the Steam Deck, isn’t about establishing a long-term position in the hardware market-it’s about expanding their addressable market for software. Ultimately, they want other companies making Steam-compatible handhelds, headsets, and set-top boxes so Valve can sit back and keep taking their 30% from third-party software on third-party hardware. Maximum profit, minimum effort. More layoffs, worse games, but more superyachts for Gabe!
@@AlexFairmont i think every 9th gen console is sold at a loss, or on ridiculously thin margins
@@holmanthehorror6127 Most of Valve's 30% cut comes from third-party games on third-party hardware. In other words, they're basically forcing everyone to subsidize their own hardware, whether we buy it or not. If the competition sees that as an unbeatable advantage, it's no surprise they're all slashing budgets and laying people off.
If there's a half life 3 I genuinely hope to see some kind of return or reprise of 'Triage at Dawn'.
One of the most haunting and memorable tracks in all of gaming, which is especially impressive since it only plays in game for like 30 seconds.
8:28 this was confermed in ep2 when alyx is getting tea for elli he says: Unferseen consequences, last time i head that he wisperd in my ear, you know how im talking about our mutal friend.

And now when the layoff flood finally comes, those who killed their golden goose for a quick buck will drown.
I just want HL3 and a new L4D entry. Is that too much to ask?
Rise and shine, Gaben. I will teach you how to count to 3.
i hate to stan over a corpo, but dammit, I do enjoy me some valve.
Most game developers still haven't entirely caught up with the tech shown off in the ORIGINAL source engine. When valve finally gets around to dropping their source 2 sequels, They could very well BURY the games industry

@seanplaysgames2551 I hope those which arnt caught up yet will soon... Since steam os is gonna be popular

If they manage to make Steam OS and it runs well on PC. I’ll ditch Microsoft,
Arch?
Exciting news, provided Valve solves all that drivers and anti cheat BS that unfortunately plagues gaming on Linux, it will be so over for Windows, holy shit.
Very excited to see steam os come to desktop pc. So we don’t have used bloated windows 10/11 anymore. We need more OS competition. Since window 11 is so bloated Cus they bullied out all other os companies. Except Mac OS (not a threat to windows) and Linux.
I just hope steam box or steam console they release is capable 1080p/60fps even 120 fps or 1440p/60 or better. So at least 10+ Tflops or more.
Especially if This steam console box is gonna support VR.
what other os companies? its been windows, macOS and linux (even though all distros combined dont really compete for general use) for decades
Having both my steam deck and home console for all of my Steam library is actually insane and I cant wait. At this point I don't care at all for any dev consoles on the market, especially Nintendo.
Valve can't even save their own games from things like cheaters...
As a tf2 player. I just really want a proper tf2 update
"But it was found it has a hdmi port". This can mean anything. From it being a dev kit to a custom machine and to simply being stating it can use a monitor. If it said it had specifically a dp display port it would mean something.

I can't lie, I sold my valve index for the quest 3 because I was on my 3rd headset and was out of warranty and it started showing signs of death. I just couldn't take it anymore and got the quest 3. Couldn't have made a better decision in my life switching. The quest headsets are strong as hell and the controllers are WAY stronger the the knuckles. I swear the deckerd better be as tough because I do want a wireless steam VR headset. I really hope it has pancake lens too because it would be hard to go back to frenel lenses.
And that's fine. The point is you can use whatever hardware you want with Steam. You don't need Valve hardware to play Valve games. You can access Steam and use all Steam features with completely different hardware and that's amazing
yea the valve index has bad quality issues for it, which be to fair quest isn't exactly perfect but the quest 3 is amazing for its price and convienece and wireless streaming makes me never want to go back to wired at all
It feels that Valve isn't doing a lot, but they're working on multiple projects.
One word: TF2
I mean they did release the patch for the bots and right now TF2 is in their way once again but hey after the comic I really don't think valve will do a whole lot with team fortress as a franchise, OFC unless they give to TF2 the CS2 treatment
I love s&box I spoke to garry way back in the day when I first started gmod. He's not in it for the money he just enjoys making his mods. Very nice guy.
Sandbox seems like a new take on Gmod which is fantastic. Hopefully it can bring some nostalgia from the early gmod days.
Great video. One thing I’ll note is that Valve isn’t really paying the average person in their games division over 1 million dollars. The total salary budgeted for each team is heavily skewed towards the top team leadership. Everyone has a very nice salary but everyone in the games division is closer to the $200,000- $450,000 range.
i read that as valve is BLACK

Gentlemen, hell has froze over
Nah, other gamestudios gonna be cooked.
That situatio with kadokawa was bassically get bought out by sony or tencent and such. Ironically sony was the best option. I pray sony entertainment interactive moves out of cali and back to japan.
You came here for Half-Life 3 didn't you?
If there was ever a discovery of a one-time use immortality potion, I would give it to Gaben, We can't lose him.
I genuinely believe if they can keep this up and actually release all these projects they could become even greater than they were in the 2000's
