Fill a 5 gallon with cement. When it's still wet put the failed flappy print into it halfway. The threaded end looked fine so you can used that to attach the arm to. I'm concerned about its center of gravity. Oh and you can still pop wheels into the bottom of the bucket. Good luck!

    • @DeanRockne
      @DeanRockne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I'd add a 2x4 base under the bucket that the wheels can attach to. The weight of the concrete will help, but I think you still need to extend the footprint to at least 3ft x 3ft to help stabilize it.

You should install it on a ceiling mounted monorail! The arm would be installed upside down on the ceiling, and be moved around on predefined paths.
On the other end, you would install a camera, a huge spotlight or even a computer screen. It would be moved across the room or retracted and stored close to the ceiling when it’s not in use.
It would be awesome and look like a sci-fi or factory equipment! 🤓

Since all the settings are in a separate config file, one can update the firmware without worry of those settings getting changed. Hey Joel, for enhancing bed separation it may be useful to put a sacrificial 'brim' on the leading end of your prints with a relatively small amount of surface contact - but just enough to promote seamless print separation without bowing, due to large amounts of initial stress.
I'd like to see if this would be effective in practice.

Use it to hold up the studio lights somehow. Then it'll always be seen in the background and it has a practical use. Although you might need to figure out a way to prevent the studio lights from melting the PLA when it gets warm/hot possibly.

seems like you just need to print a few different sized spacers to put on the wheels, to see how much larger the rollers need to be to perfectly catch the bottom of the print without letting the print sag or without pushing the print up, or worse of all jamming against the print.
is there no way to fine tune the height of the rollers to get it in a better position?
also my guess on the firmware is the feed rate changed, so the printer was over extruding and oversized the threads.

A commercial use would be to put it on a rolling platform and light at the other end. Because you can take it apart, you could throw a bunch of them into a trailer to take to a construction site for spotlighting specific areas high or low. You could also use them to support kids night soccer and football or any other event. Imagine traveling shows could light up their shows and take the light with them.

you will have to fix it to the ground somewhere to keep it in balance, or you will have to have a massive trolley so the overhang doesn't flip it over..maybe set it up so it can rotate on a fixed plate somewhere convenient. On the light bulb side, get the biggest tungsten lightbulb you can get and print a parametric lampshade for it. you can use a spherical joint for connection and you will just have to undo the nut on the lampshade bulb assembly to adjust it

would making the conveyor 10 feet long help? my understanding of the issue is when it peels off the belt? or is it the joint in the belt. this interests me immensely. you could print a dash board for a truck

What about a base similar to what you get from an outdoor umbrella for a patio table? The round ones that you fill full of sand or water. Then just toss some casters on it from Harbor Freight. If you make it filable with sand then you can use only as much weight as NEEDED to hold up whatever is on the end. To connect it to your arm just model the very end of one of those arms (arch with the threads) on top of the stand in the spot where an umbrella would insert IF it was one of the patio umbrella anchors.

A time lapse camera stand perhaps? Use a patio umbrella paver on the floor to hold it perhaps?

have been in touch with Creality to get a cr-30 but need to find the slicer?

That is fantastic! How much does it weigh? I like the comment with the bucket of cement, but the base would need to be wider if on wheels to keep it from falling over I think.

Very nice enorma-print Joel; I'd love to see a video about sustainability and 3D printing

print a giant lightbulb, put a lightbulb in it. bare giant bulb on the end. get a red and a black extension cord and run them thru it, only use one for power. print a base with a space for a concrete paver for weight, maybe use it for structure. definitely casters.
