  • Installing the Vance & Hines twin slash competition baffles on the Harley Street Bob FXBB with Stage 3 kit. This is Part 1 of a two-video series on the Vance & Hines competition baffles. In this video, I cover the installation and sound at idle. In Part 2, I will share my impressions after putting some miles on the competition baffles. Vance & Hines offers three sets of baffles for the Twin Slash slip-ons: the standard baffles that come installed, quiet baffles, and competition baffles. Take a look at the installation process and hear how the competition baffles sound compared to the standard baffles.

Part 2 will cover the performance differences after I’ve put some miles on them. Be sure to subscribe and hit the bell so you won’t miss out when I post the follow-up video. Thanks for watching!

    I know Harley guys usually don’t like metrics, but I definitely like your competition baffles over the standard. On my 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50 slash cut full exhaust, I lose 5 mph top speed with the standard baffles in compared to no baffle. I’m about to order the competition baffles, but don’t know how they compare on flow to open pipes.

      @RonsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rick - well I really enjoys bikes of all kinds so no problems here :)
      Let me know how the competition baffles work out. I suspect they’ll have more back pressure than open pipes but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

    I installed V&H slash mufflers on my 2020 Lowrider. The sound was a bit to loud so I bought a set of their Quiet Baffles. Removing the baffle wasn't too bad, but installing the Quiets, with the fiberglass wrappings was a real struggle. I had to beat them in with a hammer and long rod. I'm pretty sure they're in there forever.

      Thanks! Yes, when the warranty expires I plan to go with a different system. Maybe two into one, but I really like having two pipes.

    Hi Ron, I have a twin slash on another bike, but I have such a hard time pulling them out, any tips? I already tried putting some wd40 on but no help..
    Thanks in advance

      Hi Steven! I happened to have a really unique pair of super long pliers with a very flat nose, and they worked perfectly. In general, pliers have worked the best for me, but they need thin jaws. You might also try getting a piece of relatively heavy steel wire, like 12 gauge, and bending a "J" into the end of it, and then stick it all the way in past the end of the baffle and try to hook it with the end of the J to pull it out. One other idea - maybe thread the retaining bolt into the boss from the INSIDE of the baffle, just far enough in so it does not go through to the pipe itself, and then try to pull it out by grabbing that bolt with pliers or vise grips. Try rotating it back and forth as you pull it out. Lastly, maybe heat up the outer pipe with a propane torch to get it to expand but not apply enough heat to warm up the baffle too - maybe that would give it enough wiggle room for you to pull it free. (Or maybe you try a combination of a couple of these...) Let me know if any of this helps!

      @@RonsWorkshop Hi, Ron! thanks for so many tips! I shall give them a try over the weekend.
      One thing is, I'm not sure if the twin slash for different makes uses different baffles; in your video when you took the baffles out with the pliers, it seem there are spaces between the baffle and the exhaust itself for the pliers to slide in and clamp.. baffles I have has maybe 1mm of space in between itself and the exhaust I feel no pliers would ever fit in.
      I also dried the 2nd methold by bending a hanger in J shape trying to take it out (I used 2 and hooked them in diagonal points to apply even force) and still no luck.
      Going to try thread the bolt from the inside and use pliers and see if it works.
      Will apply heat at the same time!

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they’re the same - when I reach in to grab them I’m actually grabbing the metal vents that are pressed into the baffles, and not the round edge of the baffle itself. Let me know how it goes! The bolt solution may be the one to get you going.

    I recently changed to competition baffle. The sound is a lot different. I did not like the stock twin slash. But boy the change in sound.
    Definitely get it. Don't think twice.

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like them too - definitely sounds a bit deeper and a bit louder but not “hate your neighbors” loud.

    Wouldn’t the locktite be nullified by the heat of the pipes anyway?

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably so! Maybe the thicker paste-type loctite that’s on the bolts is more heat resistant than the regular liquid. But I wouldn’t go with red loctite.

    • @RonsWorkshop

      The thing to be aware of is whether or not it runs lean without the baffles since it will have less back pressure. Lean is not good.
