    We used to just tape cards to our spokes to get that sound. Those were good times. Sounds good. Keep the great videos coming.

    Hello Ryan. This video was kinda exactly what I was looking for. My question is if I do remove the packing and put the baffles back in can I assume there won't be any performance issues such as the bike running too lean? I'm new in the MC world but really trying to learn. Thanks

    In NYS, as of April 1, 2022 the fines for exhaust mods that make your bike louder than stock is $500. That fine is also levied against the inspection station AND the shop that did you mod. Same goes for cars but fine is $1000.

    I've removed most of the fiberglass packing from my Bassani DnT slip ons about a year ago. I love the sound. Only now I noticed the right muffler has this gold/amber tint spanning the lenth of the muffler. Does the packing protect the muffler from heat preventing discoloration? or am I running lean possibly? I have stock headers, aftermarket air cleaner. It was tuned by previous owner, supposedly.

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fiberglass packing could definitely reduce heat. Probably why you are seeing the discoloration. You can always pull your plugs to ensure you aren't running too lean.

    Ryan, will this affect performance at all? I did this with my sport I'ld and it was all around awesome. Kept just alil packing to keep the sound clean. Thinking of doing the same on my Road King w/ RC Components slip ons. Hopefully it's the same set up. Just don't want to lose throttle response.

    nice video, was wondering I have 15 road king with twin slash oval slip ons and vance and hines headers and stage 1 screaming eagle air intake, so it was tuned for that. if I remove just the packing like you said , do you think I will have to have retuned

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We definitely recommend you run an auto tune map after removing the packing. That's why we never suggest getting Harley downloads. You are stuck if you ever make changes. We hightly recommend the V&H Fuelpak 3 EFI tuner. We run this tuner and sell it in our store. It gives you flexibility to make as many changes as you want. Then you can just run a simple auto tune map and be done..... Hey Ryan - Great video but I neglected to confirm I have slash cut V& H so wondering if you know HOW T.F. to get my baffles out? I removed the 2 screws on each side, sprayed WD-40 between the pipe & baffles and CAN'T get them to free up. Before I pull them back off of the bike and try and figure it out I thought I'd check with you. Thanks bro

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have a metal perforated baffle that has a straight pass through. In our experience they can be tough to remove if the pipes have been on the bike for a while due to heating and cooling. You may want to try pulling them out when they are warm.

    Question: it seems that most folks like the deeper sound of the pipes with the packing left in (so do I ). What about cutting the baffle down by 50% (chop sawing a center section, then weld the two ends back together)? Would this not make for better performance AND make it louder?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're not sure the from of the baffle would line up with the head pipe then. If you decide to do it, let us know. We'd be interested in the results.

      Ryan Urlacher well, I've removed both baffles and left the packing in. for several reasons; 1. because it's not brand new it may make quite a mess getting them out, 2. if I do get them out I certainly won't get them back in, 3. I like the deep tone. so, what I'm running is a baffle similar to a Big City Thunder " Monster Baffle" ( its similar because BCT doesn't make a baffle for 4" mufflers. with this set up I've made sound improvements. but have list a fair amount of back pressure and I think the sound could be improved a bit. My main point is that there is no header pipe connection now, so if I put the original baffles back in and they don't meet a header pipe then so what? BTW, I have Vance & Hines slip on duals.

    I got a question I decatted my head pipe 2 days ago. I have cobra neighbor hater slip-ons which has no packing. Now I get the deceleration gurgling almost like in this video but worse which is very annoying. Is there anything I could do to the baffles to make it sound better. Like I said there's no packing whatsoever in cobra neighbor hater just a baffle with holes similar to the ones in the video.... Would tuning get rid of the gurgling? If so which one should I get.. not sure if I'm going to do cams ... Bike definitely runs a lot cooler with the cat gone

      There's no packing in Twin Slash Rounds. There is a standard steel baffle and a quiet baffle that V&H sells. There is only one or two screws at the end of the slip on that removes the steel baffle.

    Any suggestions on how to get the packing out of a bike that has about 5K miles on it? Im getting the pipes and shields coated and it seems the packing is stuck to the tube. I think the fiberglass melted a bit and is now stuck.

      It can be difficult on pipes that have had some miles on them. Brute force is really the only cure. Be careful not to damage them.

    Now for my question , did you have any issues with the slip ons getting hotter then normal, which would cause damage to the hard bags or any other items. I am looking forward to your comment on this seeing how you have plenty of miles on it since this was recorded.
    Thanks for your help brother and keep up the great vids!!🛵🛵🏆

      There has been no heat issues. No damage to the bags and no blueing to mufflers. The sound is in the ear of the beholder.

    Hey Ryan, first time Harley owner, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible! I installed the headpipes and V&H Titan 450 slip ons. I got the right pipe off with little to no issues, however the left pipe has been a thorn in my side. I finally gave up and put the fiberglass packing back into the right pipe and have put almost 800 miles on the bike since. Long story short, I want to get the left pipe fiberglass & baffle out and was wondering if there is another workaround you would recommend. I've used WD-40 and also bought B'laster 16-PB Penetrating Catalyst (supposed to be the best out there, a higher rating then WD-40) and let the bike sight over night soaking in lubricant. I also wrapped them in a hand towel with a large set of channel locks with still no success. My next step is to let it soak again over night and use a rubber mallet. Any other suggestions????????????????

      @RyanUrlacher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! It sounds like you've done everything. In our experience they come off easy with the help of penetrating lubricant. I'm afraid we don't have any other tips for you.

    Hi ryan will taking out the baffles effect my engine or performance of my harley ? is it bad for the bike?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not with these particular slip ons, because they have an internal baffles. The wrap just quiets the exhaust down.

    Ryan Urlacher, first off I love your videos, all very informative and quite helpful to the riding community, I must also say good audio quality on this review of your mods, it is somewhat helpful in making my decision wether or not to modify the exhaust on my bike, I have the exact same exhaust setup and tuner as in this video, did you have any issues with discoloration after many miles? Sense you have performed the mod would you recommend this if I am looking for alittle more sound or do you prefer the sound with the baffels in? Or would you say it's not really worth modifying because it did not change much at all? The audio quailty was good but of course its never the same as listening to it in person. Just looking for your personal opinion. Others mileage may vary. Thanks for all the informative stuff, y'all are really helping many of us out!

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josiah, I have had no discoloration issues. The baffles are still in the exhaust. We didn't remove the baffles, only the baffle wrapping. The sound louder, but not obnoxious. You can always put the wrapping back on the baffles if you want too.

      I apologize for my typo, I did mean baffle packing, not baffle removal. I get those two jumbled up in my head sometimes but clearly know the difference. Thank you for your very quick and also clear reply to my question. I think I will give it a shot and if I don't like it, worst off I'll have to buy new packing. Pipes have around 16k on them. Heck, might not be able to drive the end caps off. I will try to remember to post an update once I accomplish the task to help other users. currently away from my bike for bout another month, but will be riding again soon.

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly. We did it to some screaming eagles a few years ago. Each pipe is different. I'd take it slow and easy in case the particular exhaust you have doesn't com apart. Ride safe & Ride Often!

    Why not cut the metal baffle off before putting exhaust tip back on?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We just wanted to remove the baffle wrapping. Removing the baffle entirely would reduce back pressure and significantly effect engine performance.

    I know this was 2016 buts its amazing how we still havent learned not to record exhaust notes directly behind the exhaust. Its too loud for the camera mic to pick up clearly.
