  • My impressions of the Vance & Hines twin slash competition baffles on my Harley Street Bob FXBB with the Stage 3 kit. This is Part 2 of a two-video series on the Vance & Hines competition baffles. In this video, I share my impressions of sound & performance after logging some miles on the competition baffles. In the previous video, I covered the installation process and sound comparison at idle. Vance & Hines offers three sets of baffles for the Twin Slash slip-ons: the standard baffles that come installed, quiet baffles, and competition baffles. Hear how the competition baffles sound with several ride-bys at different RPM levels.

    Let me know if you've tried the Vance & Hines competition baffles or even the quiet baffles. Did you make any changes to your fuel map? I'd like to tweak it a little but I can't until my warranty is up. Let me know what you've tried!

    I love your videos Ron. Really appreciate you taking the time to make them. Love your bike ,too! I have a 22 street bob and hope to follow your footsteps with my upgrades.

    thanks for the great video. I just bought a 2017 Fat Boy S, and it had the Twins Slash slip-ons installed from day one (according to service records). The motor is the 110SE with the SE Intake. The exhaust sounds great, but it is a little too loud for my taste, since I leave for work at 5am. Was trying to figure out what baffles it has installed. Your side by side shot of the stock / competition baffles helped me see that I have the Standard Baffle. I am ordering the Quiet Baffles today. I'll let you know how it goes.
    Thanks again.

      I'm almost in the same situation, leaving for work at 5am, just on a different model 2018 Street bob (just bought it, but haven't been riding to work yet due to time off) with same pipes. However I'm afraid it will annoy neighbours. Now I'm thinking about trying quiet baffles.

      Hey Boris - let us know how it goes if you try the quiet baffles!

      @@Mytology69 hey Boris I recorded before and after videos of my install, including readings from my decibel meter.
      It did quiet them enough that it won’t wake up the whole neighborhood, while still maintaining that big twin sound. Now this is at idle / low RPM. when you open ‘er up, it’s still loud.
      My belief is that the quiet baffles filters out a great deal of the mid/high frequencies, leaving mostly lower frequencies to be enjoyed. Again, at idle. I took readings at 20” from exhaust, and 10’ from exhaust. Both cold starts, then another set of reading with the bike Hot. I’ll come back here and drop a link when the video is uploaded, just need to trim it down.

      @@killdozer3464 awesome thanks!
      I'm mainly concerned about idle and low rpm. I've been looking around for baffles to purchase online, but prices vary, also some sell a pair some sell 1 at a time. Its tricky as I don't live in USA.

    I'm current gonna try modding the V&H baffles. I like the deep growl but it's just too loud for me on long runs. So gonna chop the baffle in half and weld in a plate then wrap with fibre glass. I might video the process.

    I've really enjoyed watching your two videos on this as I'm considering the competition baffles for my 2019 Road King with twin slash. I don't suppose you have any ride bby comparisons do you? Also, do you think you will notice more of a difference in sound depending on what mods you have on your bike, i.e. I only have the slip ons and no other upgrades, would you expect to see more or less of a change with the competition baffles?

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Snerkler - thanks for the feedback! I don’t have any ride-by comparisons but that’s a great suggestion. I still have the standard baffles so I’ll work that into the video schedule - I’m just not sure of the exact timing.
      As for sound differences based on engine mods - I’d say there will be a difference no matter what, but mods like a more aggressive cam, higher compression, etc. would really accentuate the differences.

    Thanks for the video.
    Anyone looking to change, there is a massive difference between standard and competition baffles. They are just very loud in gear 1 and 2.
    Does anyone know how to get the sound somewhere in between standard and competition baffles. Is there a way to make competition little bit quiet. Thanks

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey J Singh - one idea is to modify the stock baffles by enlarging the holes with a drill. But there could be ramifications. They’re in a certain pattern and a certain size so it may be unwise to go “freestyle” on them. But maybe it isn’t s big deal?

  • @danielfranklin4161
    @danielfranklin4161 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does the competition baffle have packing around it?

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope! It's just the metal tube that you see in the video. The standard baffle doesn't have packing either, it is just narrower with a different hole pattern.

    Do they sell them as a pair or are they sold individually? I found some for about 40 bucks but that has to be for just one

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oddly they only sell them as singles. Maybe they’re also compatible with a single pipe? There’s not much info on the V&H site either. Not sure but it seems like they should be sold in pairs.
