In warhammer community article they said that Empire is next but they also say that High Elves are late due to delay. So I would assume that they planned to follow shields on the book and planned High Elves as next faction, but due to delays they decided to move with Empire.
It’s very possible yes, but also I think with all slightly delayed compared to original plans (if you go along with the rumours that Dwarfs were planned for before AOS4. But yes very possible.
They moved up Empire to delay the releases. This is due to giving more room for AoS in Xmas sales. A very bad strategy. AoS will not sell more. GW will just miss more revenue from TOW.
Happy that Empire and Imperial Guard are next. Also, not sad that there’s nothing too quick because I’m still playing catch-up with Dwarfs, Orcs&Goblins and the terrain.
This is exactly the best way to look at it, and exactly what I should do, I have plenty of Brets and TK to go back to, but I’ll probably end up buying Empire on eBay instead 😂
I was never much of a warhammer player but as our club used to run competitions, I wanted to join in so Empire was my army of choice still have most of it plus a few bits stashed away. So I’m going to be interested to see what gets released, not sure I would play the OW but the figure still get used for all sorts of games.
As some1 that wants to collect every army I don't mind the gap inbetween releases especially as my hobby funds have been ransacked by the new old terrain that come out..so for me I'm OK however I could see how others tht are waiting for there army to be released could see it as a bit negative
Really, if you want to play any given faction, there’s so many options for models, other than waiting for GW to produce them. I may be biased, because I’m an old curmudgeon and still have most of my old Fantasy models. That said, here I sit painting up Cities of Sigmar models to proxy as Empire (and play Spearhead, if I’m honest).
I think Elf players won't mind the wait so long as a fair few plastics come out for the faction, even if they just sold on the elf half of island of blood it would go a long way to improving options. It has felt like they've leant a little too hard at times on nostalgia in terms of simply bringing back any old kits they can to fill out rosters rather than produce updated plastics for factions that needed them.
In regards to your second point, sadly it’s just a completely different thing bringing back some old miniatures compared with bringing out new updated plastics, they’re just different things rather than different tactics. The nostalgia thing is there, is deliberate, but a great deal because they don’t have the option to bring out more new stuff. Hopefully that’s something we may see more of in the future, but it will be a long slow change, especially for an SDS game. AOS are slowly doing this now, and we’re in 4th edition and there’s still plenty of old fantasy miniatures that form part of that game. The hey just don’t have that kind of capacity with all that they do across all games taken into account.
Considering the pics in Forces of Fantasy, I'm very much convinced we're gonna get the rank and file ( but perhaps not the characters ) from the Isles of Blood, recut in a new sprue. Which is exciting because they rarely ever do that and it would most importantly be the first instance of it for The Old World. And it gets my hopes up that we might see the return of the Skull Pass box aswell some day.
Yeah I think we will get all the stuff that’s presented in those books for sure. Will be interning to see if they’re maybe retooled it to remove the Skaven parts .
I think the stuttering release schedule is a problem - and it would have been great to have rounded the year off with six armies - though as I think you have indicated before this studio is spinning a lot of plates, so it is understandable. The silver lining for me is the delightful Chaos Dwarf team, with the bright and expressive models hopefully portending a re-release for Chaos Dwarfs in the TOW that really leans into their strange character.
I'm super happy that my theory went wrong, as I was one of those who was pretty sure that Empire would come last. As this is my first army that I got into and I started playing WFB 8th ed very recently, April last year, and I have bought as much as I could before GW removed most of the Empire units last summer, but missing some units and characters. Fingers crossed that it comes out in late January early February next year
That’s my hope too, they will be my next big (and ongoing) project alongside Dwarfs. I’ll do other armies for sure, but not in the same way, just like last year I’ll be waiting for January again (well hopefully jan).
I’m fine with the little slow down. I don’t get to play as much as when I was younger and I wouldn’t want to worry about another edition being just around the corner when I’m just beginning to get a hang of this one. Also, we got 5 armies in less than a year. I really don’t understand all the doom and gloom. Love the game, love the vids!
Thank you. Yes 5 in a year is very good indeed, I think a 2 year rollout for a launch of a game of this size is very fair. It’s a bit feast or famine at times, but at least we know the next two now, and I’d assume in Q1 next year.
Mixed news really. Knowing the next two factions was probably enough news to make it worth while but perhaps a bit of a shame really about it being 2025 I think overall it will be fine. There will likely just be a couple of months of nothing after Chaos is fully out and likely would get some MTO offerings yet to be talked about. Those chaos dwarf minis are wonderful and my first thought when I saw them was about conversion possibilities for Old World. I’m sure lots of people will consider it at least
Maybe I was a bit sleepy when watching live, but I'm pretty sure they said Empire this year and then after that asked the question about 2025 which is when High elves was shared. I suspect the roadmap is therefore wrong and we've got Empire coming before the end of the calendar year. Worth going back and watching that on Twitch if you can.
I’ll try and catch it later, maybe the overall presenters said something then. What I can say is the article on Warcom categorically says 2025 in the next, not just the roadmap image. “Today we can reveal the next two factions coming up for fans of the Old World at the start of 2025.” I watched the imbedded video chat with Danny from the old world team as well, and he mentions Empire next but doesn’t say this year, just next.
In the preview show on the Warhammer channel on TH-cam the presenter says something along the lines of "So Chaos Warriors are in 2024, if we look a little bit further out what can we expect?" To which the other lad goes on about how it's the Empire of Man next. That sounds to me like 2025 personally. Could be wrong of course and only time will tell but that along with the infographic points to next year in my opinion.
@johnoneill3654 Yeah Danny doesn’t mention a date, but it’s on the Roadmap and in the article as 2025. I guess the presenter of the whole show could have said 2024 in one of the live links, I’ll try and catch the full thing later.
Anyone else excited about Blood Bowl Chaos Dwarfs? Add in the Chaos weapon upgrade kit and they’d look pretty good even though they kind of look a bit tall though compared to the old minis
From the still to come part of the roadmap im hoping that there is more dwarfs since we havent had Burlok Damminsson's model yet and i would love to see the bugmans rangers and those great 6th edition longbeards come back.
I’m confident we will see more models releases here and there, there’s definitely new special characters to cover as well, there’s the other Bret one as well.
Hi stu - dont you think its a bit odd they said "more factions" when at that point only Beastmen and Wood Elves will be left. You might have missed something there mate. 2025 might turn out to be one heck of a year! ya never know. Norsca, Cathay, our Dark Elves - who knows mate. I'm crossing my fingers and all my toes. - Ben.
I definitely think they have at least one new faction planned, they started by talking about both Kislev and Grand Cathay back when they first announced the game, so I think one of those could be on the cards for sure.
Absolutely. I’m actually happy with 5 this year, and would have thought all 9 in 18-24 months was more than fair. It’s probably the big gap for Dwarfs after the announcement, then the gap we’re likely to have now. Still now I know that this is the likely pattern I can get my head around that.
Maybe all this is because the amount of different armies in games workshop and until they build that new factory there will be delays and things not released in a regular manor for a genera in warhammer
I don't mind waiting for Wood Elves but I sure hope they get some new treekin and plastic wardancers. Even back in 8th edition they had a large amount of metal kits. They need more attention than High Elves and Beastmen IMO. Beastmen could use a plastic chariot but otherwise that range of models is fine.
Never would have expected we'd finish of Wood Elves ( presumable ), and that Beastmen would arrive this late. Atleast it gives me some more time to finish my Greenskins up before the cloven ones come to raid my wallet.
I guess at the start I never would have expected alll 9 armies in a year, but I did get excited that might hit 6 this year after the fast pace of Dwarfs then WoC. But if I was told 5 by year end and 4/5 (if they do a new one) next year, then I’d have thought that was fair.
Well I guess most of Sept will be taken up with WoC wave 1 & 2, so if we get Empire in Jan it might be not as bad as it looks right now. We may have other model releases as well, just not a full faction.
Also in any other time in fantasy’s lifespan the releases this year is unheard of. We’ve gone 6months without any updates many many times. Plus we aren’t the only ones. 40k isn’t getting a new army til next year either
Yep the roadmaps for pretty much all systems were sparse. In regards to what we had for fantasy in the past I completely agree. I think there’s excitement for seeing a ‘full game’ as soon as as possible, I expect things will slow down a great deal after the first couple of years, and we will all have to remember that’s just normal.
If the delay in giving us High Elves and Empire means we get new models to go with them them then I'm all for waiting. I think the biggest disappointment for me would be not releasing a new Empire Knights kit. The old one is just so dated, even by old world standards - the horses are 5th edition and are dwarfed by everything else available now.
I think all main 9 factions will be out by this time next year, and I doubt they will be last, they won’t do Wood Elves after Empire and High Elves. Beasts will be Q2 I think.
Empire and High Elves will be large releases as there are plenty of ways to go/figures to release for both factions so I think this easily takes us to June 2025. New skaven, AOS Empire and early next year TOW Empire; stir in a little terrain and we could get a surprise Mordheim box🤞
I’m still convinced they were supposed to be the 10th faction but something changed late on. Hopefully it’s not too long before we see them and other legacy armies get a proper return.
That would be great. I think once they’ve done Daughters or Khaine for AOS, then the rest of that old range will be free to be returned for fantasy. Technically that’s then the old ranges for Skaven, Dark Elves and Lizards waiting in the wings.
I was expecting nothing yet I was still disappointed. GW basically aired a glorified recap segment and released a vague roadmap that was already a few months out of data. "The Empire is next" scribbled on a post-it note would have been better than this. Bravo, GW. You've outdone yourself.
This has to be the worst displayed roadmap/timeline/whatever they were trying portray to ever exist. It's so poorly done. What happened to a normal horizontal line roadmap lol otherwise I'm disappointed to see them holding back for 2025 now. It felt like it was picking up steam too.
